That reminds me I should probably save some of the posts I wrote a while back. I spent quite a bit of time on them and I wouldn't wish them to fade into oblivion just like that.

Well the news certainly dragged me out of the gutter, good on you BioWare.

So pray do tell me, what happens to all the purchased DLC which is linked to my account and has to be downloaded manually from the old User Entitlements page?

Apologies if this has been asked/answered.

Almost all of the sites being offered as alternatives, while good for soundbyte style comments, are terrible for detailed discussion. This is a community, full of people who are interested in actually talking about Bioware games in depth. There is no alternative for that, for the sense of community or camaraderie.

That's what this decision is causing us to lose. I only wish Bioware seemed to care.

Your posts are always great. Its sad to lose a leader and conversation starter in all this. Which only emphasises your point really. We needed somewhere like this to be improved not nuked.

Typical, overkill.

Less that it's complicated and more that it's totally backward and stupid.

well that depends on what their goal is, if their goal is their stated "continue community engagement" then yes it is

but "only an idiot believes the official story"

I hope they address this but I suspect the news won't be good.

We need to decide quickly about where we'd all go once BSN shuts down and people leave every-which-way. Someone mentioned the notion of making our own forums. I think that the best course of action would be to unabashedly and firmly go for that option - to make a forum that's going to encompass all things BioWare with a name that'll be very Google search friendly, including an off-topic subsection - and afterwards, to advertise that forum around the BSN in its twilight days so that people are aware that there exists the ONE alternative that's going to practically be a verbatim copy of these forums, sans the devs themselves.

This is what we IT'ers did when Priestly decided moderating was too much effort.  It worked out pretty well.  Almost all the regular names transitioned over.  I didn't expect the forum to last but it's done well considering.  However we had an advantage that I don't think the BSN community at large does: we were a small enough community that a few people had the respect of almost everyone so we didn't fight over leadership.  I think that'll be BSN's biggest problem.  Everyone will be divided on where you should all go, who should be in charge, and what sort of moderation the place should have.

But then, I haven't been around here much in the past few years.  If there's a big name that the great majority of posters respect and are willing to follow, it might work out okay.  From what I've seen today though, it doesn't look promising.  Seen a lot of posters today that want to go to an existing forum, though any 2 rarely agree on which one, and a lot of others that feel a new forum should be made for BSN's "refugees."  Schisms like that are difficult to overcome.

Indeed.

It's incredibly hard to find a group of people in RL into CRPGs enough to really have a discussion with them.

Bioware, I'm way too Pro-Templar to go to Tumblr. I won't last a day in there, man.

Underrated comment. I'll miss lurking your pro-templar arguments.

Yeah not to mention all the feedback practically goes out the window... The part that really trips me up though is that they honestly think that "social media" as a medium, is some how better suited for targeted, in depth discussions.  My guess is that it's just the easy way out for them at this point. Ten bucks says  "BSN" turns into some chatboard on Origin when Andromeda releases...

They better do, this scenario was a cause of lot of concern when all this DLC and DRM nonsense began, and here we are.

On the bright side, the name Masque was available so at least I've got that going for me.

Closing down your official forums, that have such an incredible wealth of information, and are a central hub for fans to talk and interact with each other (in a proper/traditionally-structured forum) is Epically stupid IMO.  And the "reasoning" behind it is lame, lazy and completely transparent (can't be bothered to maintain these forums, and can't be bothered to fix/improve them)..

As someone who detests social media and really dislikes the structure of reddit, I'll be keeping my eyes on this thread... for a proper/traditional fan-site forum.  *crosses fingers*

I bought the first two ME games on steam and they're not connected to my "official" origin account =]

I think you can paste the CD-KEY from steam to origin and you can play the game from there. The DLC is linked to your EA account IIRC.

undoubtedly you were not, if BioWare was really interested in fixing things around there were a dozen things they could have done with almost no effort

This doesn't make any sense.

He basically said.

We don't use the forums.

That's unfair on people who visit our forums.

So rather than give them a chance to interact with us. By interacting with them on the forum.

They can get stuffed and go somewhere else.

We don't care where.
