I've been suggesting ways to improve this place for years as have others. Dunno if we were ever heard.
I think we know the answer to that now.

I'm really sad to hear this. I can understand wanting to cut costs, although DA:I did well enough that shouldn't be an issue. But I think in the long run, it'll cost them more in profits than it saves. I'd planned to buy ME:A, not only for myself, but as a gift for a relative who loved the first three. But without the forums, I'll have no place to find solutions for bugs (and every BW game I've gotten has had serious bugs that needed fixes) or to ask for help when I get stuck on something, and that's a major concern. I know companies cut their tech and game support to the thinnest thread possible these days, but the fact I couldn't get real help from tech support with the problems I had wasn't a huge deal as long as I had people I knew from the forums who could help me in a reasonably timely fashion. One of my problems which made Descent unplayable (with no help from tech support except advice to try the fixes I told them I'd already tried) was solved when someone offered me a temporary workaround.
Now? I already have older games I haven't played yet (DA2, ME2, ME3) that I'd counted on being able to find help with. I've possibly wasted my money on them if they're bugged and I can't find info on fixes that are currently well documented on the old forums. I'm not throwing my hands up on BW, but now I probably won't buy ME:A when it first comes out. I'll wait until someone I trust has played it on a similar system and they assure me there are no major problems. If they do, I'll buy the game, at least a couple of months after it launches. Might wait til it goes on sale. And I'll probably only buy one copy because by the time I do decide I want the game, there'll be something newer out my relative wants that I'll get instead (she doesn't have the money to get them herself - I gave her DAI and all three expansions.) And that's aside from the way the forums built up excitement leading to DA:I, etc. That's going to be missing from now on, and I suspect sales will reflect it.
Also, frankly, it sounds as if they prefer to limit themselves to superficial feel-good interactions with (select) fans at cons - gushing and maybe very short questions. The social media they list are fine for fanart (very little of which will tell them anything other than which characters may be popular, sigh.) Lousy for discussions (I hated Twitter when I tried it because there was no actual discussions, just a lot of one liners, and the DAI FB page was never more than "vote for your favorite...!" type things.) So, the message I'm hearing is...they don't really want to hear questions, concerns, or even why people like or dislike certain things.

Dear Conal Pierse, please tell whoever OKed this decision that he's a stupid idiot.
You only got yourselves to blame for this mess. There are hundreds of smaller companies out there who aren't even close to raking it in as you lot are, but who not only run & maintain community sites & forums, but also moderate them PROPERLY.
What did you think was gonna happen when you use bots to do humans' work? You're just too cheap and too salty about "ZOMG THEY INSULTED OUR ARTISTIC INTEGRITY" so you'd rather purge this board and pretend like it never existed than to actually properly address the criticism. Never mind actually admitting you made a mistake, to the point of a total retcon of an entire trilogy & disguising it again as "artistic integrity'.
Personally I couldn't care less about the ME3 endings, but by retconning ME3 in Andromeda, it's obvious you believe you made a mistake. And you take the COWARD'S way out. You got a problem with the toxicity? HIRE HUMAN MODERATORS WHO KNOW HOW TO ENFORCE THE FORUM RULES, EINSTEIN!
I liked Bioware more when you were a small developer trying to prove itself to the gaming world. Now you're just cheap, fat, lazy & deluded. Like Gabe Newell.
You're all welcome at Top Shelf Gaming, folks. We're a laid-back forum that values free expression and is home to many current and former regulars of the BSN.
It's an off-topic forum. This would make it like THIS place here, except without proper constructive threads.
I'll definitely pass.

No, this was not a monetary decision. It also was not an easy one for us to make.
We understand that there are people who use and love these boards. And like them, we are sad to see them go. However, many of our players and staff now use other sites and networks outside of these boards, and we want to foster these interactions and support the great fan communities our players have built.
As always, we are committed to our players, and will continue to seek out and solicit their feedback. All of you are why we make games and what we love about gaming. This is the end of an era, but we will always, always listen to our players.
The first thing I thought when I read that Bioware was not going to have a forum is that Bioware is going out of business or having serious financial issues. Most big video game companies (and many small ones) have forums so why wouldn't Bioware? If it is not a monetary decision, I hope you will please reconsider the decision not to have a forum (either this one or a new one) as there are people such as myself who get news and information from these forums who might not go to other sites. I can understand if some individual devs don't want to post much on the forums, but isn't there a community team?

You are not. I always have one open at home and I have three tabs on my phone for quicker access across the boards when I'm working.I'm not the only one that always has a tab open to the BSN right? Its literally my first tab. All the way on the left. I don't want that to change.

I don't have a tab always open, but it's the third link on my Favorites list. I'm gonna miss this place.

You are absolutely right on that point. As the years have gone by we have been spending more time on other sites and spaces and less time on our own boards. This was unfair to those of you who use our forums.
We took a hard look at how we were engaging our community, and made the difficult decision to focus on fostering conversations in these new spaces, and to close our forums.
And so the people who aren't active on those sites, can't make it to the places where you will be, are just out of luck then? Yeah it really shows how you care for your fans.

Where can we go to discuss these games, then? This is literally the only place I know of that I can go to discuss ME and DA. I know only one other person IRL who even knows (or cares) what those are! I don't suppose someone can send some handy-dandy links to places where I could find similar conversations, could they?

Yep, me too. Even when days would go by without checking the site out, I'd still leave a tab open. I think I've done that since back in 2011 when I joined.

Nope. Because the other places where you can discuss ME and DA don't foster discussion like this place does. That and those places are aware of the imminent closure of the forum and are actually preparing to ban people who come over there.
Which is totally welcoming, by the way. Really feel appreciated, internet.

I hate twitter, facebook, instagram, whatever the other ones are called. I can't stand them.
This is really the only place I am socially active. Without this forum, I might as well become a fully fledged recluse and go insane from staring at the same four walls all day, every day.
Losing this place is not going to be any good for my sanity, which is already questionable as it is.
I only visit 3 websites really.
Bio
Youtube
Abc Australia.
(Occasionally twitter but its TL is useless. I'd have to sit there all day to catch the tweets I want to see.)

With all the bad decisions that Bioware made lately I'm starting to get curious, in a morbid way, how ME:A is going to turn out. On the other hand with the BSN gone I don't know if I'll remember / be interested enough to check.

the only one that really would be in any way comparable for discussion would be reddit, and its just as much an echo chamber as tumblr or twitter with dissenting opinions getting downvoted.

I wouldn't even call Reddit comparable for discussion. It really isn't.

Are you referring to the VSN?
No. I've recommended the VSN already for people who want to keep talking to users from the BSN. The VSN isn't fit for Bioware though. The VSN is for off topic stuff.
What I'm referring to are other locations that actually discuss Bioware game subjects like DA and ME. They have low opinions of the BSN and don't want us "polluting" their spaces with our "toxicity". Thanks David Gaider.
