I'd say it's a stupid move, and it is, but it's clear since the closure of off-topic that BioWare doesn't want a community of fans anymore.

This really sucks. I remember being on these boards before it merged to this when EA bought Bioware. I've found many friends here who share similar interests. I know forums are seen as archaic but they still serve purposes that a Twitter can't ever do...

I'm sad and disappointed by this: this was the place where I came to discuss the games be it lore, gameplay or characters with other fans. There are in-depth discussions about the lore that I find unavaliable elsewhere.

I also admit that I genuinely do not understand the reason behind it since these forums are not used only as a way to communicate with the developers, it is used primarily as a way for the fans to converse and discuss the games. These forums are still very much in use from what I've seen.

The logic behind that first post is confusing to me. If you're looking for a more direct contact with the fans, this is not the way to do it. Yeah, sites like Facebook, Twitter or whatever the hell ensures more exposure, but you can literally speak directly to the fans on sites like this one.

What's really funny is that I frequently came to this site because it wasn't like Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter and other obnoxious social media sites.

But if that's the way you want to end it, I doubt I can do much to change that. The last six years have been a weird roller coaster ride and I knew that it wouldn't last forever. It's just sad that you don't want it to be more than a comment section.

Ok: Please don't shut down the forums. I like it here. To the fans, these forums are about way more than giving feedback to the devs. They let us talk to each other. They are part of the fandom. I understand if the devs don't want to interact with them, but that's not really the primary function of them anymore. Hasn't been for a while. They're a fandom community. Please do not shut them down.

The benefit of a forum is its accessible to less socially engaged segments of your market. We don't all have big online social networks.

Aye, there are some great discussions to be had on here, both serious and nonsensical. It will be a shame to see it go.

I wonder how the posters who were gleefully happy over Off-Topic being nuked to **** because it "deserved it" feel about this.

Before DA2 and ME3, I actually had a lot of friends here discussing BioWare games. ALmost all of them left with the negativity and the rest of us stuck around for off-topic, but that doesn't mean we were inherently hostile to BioWare's products, as they seem to think.
