First don't pre-order. That, to me, is just risky. The game could be a lemon, at launch.

The GameStop's I've pre-ordered from let you layaway a pre-order for around a week after the game launches, and you can cancel the order in that time frame. Not sure how other stores would handle it, or if the practice I described is even standard practice for GameStop.

I've said plenty about the negativity of this place before but now that it's ending I've been thinking about all the great people that I knew I'd like IRL but never took the time to really get to know and I guess now I never will. I guess I thought you guys would always be here and I took you for granted :( I'm sorry about that and for being stingy with my likes...

Thanks to Jesse Reid you now have 1000 likes to give away in 24 hours. I expect to hit 10,000 likes before this place closes. Let loose.

No, this was not a monetary decision. It also was not an easy one for us to make.

We understand that there are people who use and love these boards. And like them, we are sad to see them go. However, many of our players and staff now use other sites and networks outside of these boards, and we want to foster these interactions and support the great fan communities our players have built.

As always, we are committed to our players, and will continue to seek out and solicit their feedback. All of you are why we make games and what we love about gaming. This is the end of an era, but we will always, always listen to our players.

It isn't just a matter of loving these boards, though I seriously question how much real discussion anyone has on those social media. In fact, I tried Twitter solely to follow some of the DA stuff, and found it one of the most frustrating experiences I've ever had and saw nothing worth wasting my time to log in. Lots of one liners and banter that was incredibly hard to follow. No actual discussions about plots or problems or concerns or lore. I'd like to bet there are huge areas of fandom the devs never even see because tags can be very individual and it takes place among fans who don't have huge followings. I can't imagine there'll be anything remotely like the build up among different threads leading to DA:I's launch. I'm sorry, but professional advertising blurbs build excitement for a few seconds, if that. Spending hours discussing whether something you saw meant A, B, or C with like minded fans does MUCH more to build enthusiasm.

But the big issue is where we'll get real support for issues, either bugs or just being stuck on a quest. Tech support is fine for "your computer system isn't up to running the game" and that sort of thing. It was useless when I kept reaching a certain point in Descent and the game shut down and NONE of the fixes other people had tried worked (and many people had the same problem.) I was just told to try the fixes that I'd already said didn't work, then, oh well. I only got to complete Descent (once) because someone else offered a work around. Now, if I go to play older games I have but haven't played yet, I won't have any resources for problems. Future games, none of that will be there, and that's going to make me very wary of buying a game, especially when it first launches. I really wonder if BW realizes how much people DO rely on the forums as a replacement for the kind of tech support that used to be available.

I'm not kidding, you can actually do that. What a time to be alive.

That's nothing. I've been playing Hearts of Iron 4 lately and I start out as the German Reich in 1939. By 1945, I have the entire Western world under my thumb and the rule of Fascism. By 1950, the ENTIRE world.

The thing i don't like about Reddit is that people don't have faces there. Everyone is a no one.

Here we use a pic of our favorite character, our name is visible and we have our signatures.

Here we know each other and it's easier to interact. I always would be super happy when i saw a member that i really like in the thread and this is something we don't get on Reddit.

Hug me everyone <3

I've used Reddit lately to read up on whats going on with Pokémon Go because Niantic Labs sucks at communicating with their community. They have no such place to do it. Not even Reddit.

Reddit sucks. There's no personality. The format is hard on the eyes. And things get down voted for no reason. Its terrible for proper discussion. Its slightly better than a Youtube comment section.

I'm amazed that Bioware would rather be getting information from Reddit than here.

I'm not the only one that always has a tab open to the BSN right? Its literally my first tab. All the way on the left. I don't want that to change.

Everytime i enter on the internet, BSN is there.

You should totally play Tropico 4, and link it to your FaceBook account You can post ingame events, such as how you assasinated a protester and sent the remaining family members to labour camp. :wizard:

I'm not kidding, you can actually do that. What a time to be alive.

I found out about Crusader Kings 2 from BSN. I think it was Knight of Phoenix that was talking about it. I had to check it out after the exchange of posts about incest and backstabbing. Man the BSN introduced me to a lot of things. I started anime from Offtopic I got a huge list of shows to watch based on things I liked, and every time I posted they'd ask what I thought about x anime. I think I found out about Game of Thrones through the BSN too. It was the Loghain thread were people were comparing GoT and DA:O. The music thread was awesome too. There were tons of awesome songs posted. Dang I'm gonna miss this place and all the interesting people here.

Any game where you can marry off your syphilic offsprings in order to sabotage neighbouring countries is an automatic 11/10.

Perhaps Bio doesn't want us to connect and discuss the game's problems... real ones.. after it comes out.... like the dumb down combat system that my gut tells me it is so. And, I bet the next videos will have lots of cinematic marketing.... but the game itself will be lackluster.... so says the "tea leaves" that I'm trying hard to read correctly.

Bioware proved more than once that the only feedback they're interested in are gushy praises. Everything else is "toxic".

I haven't been around here much lately, but I'm sorry to hear that this is happening. Maybe it's because I wasn't around much in the last year, but I didn't see it coming.

It's going to be weird not being able to drop in here now and again after twelve years of doing so. I get that maintaining and properly moderating a forum -- especially one of a size such as this one -- is a huge amount of work, and if the staff at BioWare don't feel it's worth it any more it's a sensible decision. Taking it down completely is probably a better move than leaving it to run wild, considering what that tends to look like on the internet. However, for me, this means I'm just not going to have anywhere to talk about these games any more. I'll miss it.

Social media may technically be a faster and easier way to keep contact with large groups of people, but it's also one that doesn't facilitate full or meaningful discussions. It doesn't take the place of a forum. I hope eventually people will come around again and realise that it's not the best way to actually engage with a group of people.

Part of me's unsurprised considering the annual trends: Jessica shuts down Photo Albums/Polls, Conal shuts down Off-Topic, etc.

Part of me's mournful since a huge amount of my life was bettered by this place, the community in particular.

If I had incentive towards playing their games or chatting in their non-existent off-topic, I'd be pretty bummed.

As mentioned before, the best spots to find BioWarian forums outside of here are either Vroom Social Network, or Top Shelf Gaming.

Social media absolutely sucks for having the kind of thought provoking idealogical discussions you could have in a forum. And no forum will replace this one for Bioware game discussion.

What I'll miss about BSN is the sense of belonging. Even in the shittiest of times like when after ME3 was released I've felt like I was part of a community that passionately liked the same things as me and that was really awesome. Because of this burning pile of tires that is this forums I've managed to meet other brazilians that liked ME and some of them even became friends IRL.

If we didn't love Bioware and their products we wouldn't have taken a dump over the steaming pile of refuse that we got with DA2 and ME3.

That doesn't make sense does it? Take a dump on a dump. Dumpception. Whatever, you get the gist of it.

Like I said in my earlier post, I don't have twitter/facebook/tumblr/youtube/whatever else so I guess I have to continue voicing myself here that I DONT WANT TO LOSE THIS FORUM.

Not that it would really matter if I have any of those accounts anyway because they aren't the place to specifically discuss all things BioWare in an open, group manner. Here is the BioWare community home, as it was designed to be. Nowhere else will offer what the BSN does.

I feel like I should continue spamming these thoughts, even if I'm fighting against the inevitable.

tumblr_lz6us2jgoc1qg4v91o1_500.gif

I'm remorseful for everyone that has contributed so much. Threads about playthroughs, silly screenshots, lore discussions, character gushing, romance obsessions, our never-ending campaign for better hair -- Where will all this go? Just scatter in the wind? I'm not really social, I gave likes more than I posted, but I was beginning to feel comfortable here... reading and learning more about the games I love, and was looking forward to staying.

MEA won't feel the same now, and I think my expectations for it have risen dramatically because of all this mess. It will be a bittersweet run, that's for sure.

At the moment it doesn't look like I could get Andromeda even if I wanted it. But if I could, this really sours my opinion on it and would make me second guess my decision to get it. Actually, it'd probably be enough to keep me from getting it.

I'm getting used to missing out on games I want due to financials. Didn't get Mirror's Edge Catalyst, can't get Deus Ex Mankind Divided, etc etc. Andromeda may be another example of "I wants but I cannot haz".

Except at the moment I don't even want it because it'd just make me feel like trash, reminding me of this place.

"Oh, I want to talk about Andromeda with...my...friends..."

Welp.
