Allan, I understand where you're coming from when it comes to how fans interact with you and the other devs. I think Twitter and other outlets are probably better for that, and I don't blame any dev for not sticking around when the BSN gets hateful.

But where, oh where, are we supposed to talk to each other? To other fans? There's no place like this forum.

I hope someone can archive the place before it gets destroyed.

This point keeps getting made again and again by various people and none of the official Bioware people here to seem to care. NOTHING can replace these official forums as a place for fans to gather and talk to each other. THAT is the main reason why we're all so upset.

If you people don't give a damn about the community that the fans have built for themselves, then just say so. Be honest. Please don't try to offer platitudes that you actually care when by your very actions you're showing that you don't.

Showing that you care would be to acknowledge that you are killing this community, even if it doesn't change anything in the end.

I'm sure there are some Bioware folks who are also unhappy with the decision, and that's very nice and appreciated that they feel that way. But offering up these excuses, over and over again, about communicating with the devs, when it has been mentioned that that is not the primary reason we come here, is starting to be insulting.

[edit]

I'll also add that IF this is the signal of the end of Bioware, or either of their two main IP franchises, that adds another level of insult to this whole fracas. All the talk about communicating with the devs will have been total BS because there will be no more devs to communicate with.

Again, we want honesty and clarity in this time of uncertainty.

I'm kind of wondering how long they've been sitting on this decision while letting us post-along our merry way...

The dreaded Off Topic regulars (of which I was) figured that they were going to shut down the forums after they closed the EVIL AND TOXIC Off Topic section twelve minutes after making the announcement thread. I'm surprised the assbites at BioWare decided to even notify the rest of you a month in advance of shutting it down.

So, um, we need a pic of an ark showing all of us poor BSNers fleeing the...Milky Way....uh, official forums? Perhaps with an image of corporate reaper giving us the boot before they nuke our home. *cries*

Just not to Korra's forum, it will be spammed with porn, and not the good kind.

I'm sure there are some Bioware folks who are also unhappy with the decision, and that's very nice and appreciated that they feel that way.

What fantasy world are you living in? They haven't given a damn about this place for years, hell they probably held a party when they announced the rest of the staff that they're shutting this cesspool of degeneracy down.

What a horrible decision. If the devs don't want to communicate here, that's fine I guess, but the forums were always the best place to discuss the games to their full extent and (that's the important part) still find valid answers years later.

Reddit is complete trash in comparison, everything gets buried, every discussion dies down, important information is simply lost or never gets through. The Dragon Age subreddit is simply useless.

The whole announcement is ****** awful, way making this all about yourself and not the community.

I'm italian. I will probably never be able to go any manifestation where is BioWare. So How will BioWare ever be able to hear me? Just because I'm not born in the "cool places" I will be a third cathegory fan.

Exactly my point !

When was the last time I saw them in France ? Never.

Poor excuses BW !

I feel your pain.

Even my older brother who's a game developer here in Spain and doesn't like Bioware's games thinks this is a huge mistake.

That's just reality bashing your brains in. You never mattered, you will never matter, unless you happen to communicate with BioWare on Twitter (and they haven't blocked you yet).

No, I don't think so. As I mentioned earlier, they recently upgraded the whole forum to HTTPS. They wouldn't have done that if they had planned to shut them down when OT was closed.

That's not really idealistic, you don't make extra work for yourself if you're planning to can something in a month.

There are all sorts of people all throughout Bioware. They're human, too. To say that EVERY SINGLE ONE of them rejoices in the decision is just not true. No group of humans shares the same opinion on anything, from kittens and puppies, to rainbows and unicorns, to games and their plots and characters.

I'm worried this is being done partly in anticipation of closing the ME3 servers which, without a work around, would render the SP campaign unplayable because of the connection with the multiplayer.

Actually, I'm worried it means a lot of things but that's my main one right now.

The Dragon Age Keep is what I am worried. How can I do different save states in Inquisition without it? :|

You really can't see how it doesn't make sense? Why would they do it then? For kicks?

Yes, this exactly.

The Keep itself is not connected to the forum or its operation. The Keep is going to still be around. That is, assuming that Bioware itself will still be around.

guys, guys.

Unofficial Bioware Forums: http://biowaresocial...ork.boards.net/
she's working on it to preserve all threads and copying everything over as an backup information so all forum users can migrate to the unofficial forum when the whole forum is shut down on August 26th

This is excellent, I've just been over there and it looks terrific.

Bioware's baffling excuses for shutting the forum down aren't the real reasons for their actions. They can't make sense of this without dropping the PR speak and risk offending us more. I suspect there are a number of reasons for this decision.

As Gaider and Priestly have noted, the axe has been hovering over this place for years due to perceived toxicity of the fans. The embarrassment of sexist and homophobic posters that infest this place doesn't help the image of a company that is attempting to be inclusive. Of course, better moderation could solve a lot of those problems but BW tries to avoid taking sides on their forums so they can sell to both sides of the SJW divide. Lose, lose for them, I guess.

I hope there's not any truth to the fears that one or more of their IPs isn't doing well. That would be heartbreaking.

Re-reading everything.... Twitter, tumblr, Instagram, I mean, they are not forums, a place where you can exchange ideas with other members, agree, disagree ! Basically you want us to follow the news but not saying a word !

Come on !!! Is that the community you really want ? full of mute sheeps ?

Guys, wake up, don't you see you took the most terrible decision ever ?

If people took the time to join here it's because they played your games in the first place and liked them  !

Rather than Destroy the forum, couldn't they Control it instead?  Or increase its integration with social media in some kind of Synthesis?

You're finally getting it!

They already tried that once, so now they'll just shut down the forums instead.

What is "actively engaging our community" exactly? I'm just wondering because that used to happen here and then it didn't.

Attending conventions, mainly in North America, and preferably in a styrofoam costume. That's how to be a BioWare fan these days, it turns out.

Said this in the twitter thread...

I understand that there are people in the forums who can say rather nasty things to the dev's (it happened with one of the DA:2 dev's but I don't know her name) and Bioware shouldn't have to put up with it. But closing down the forums altogether is actually counterproductive to dealing with those problems, better moderation of the forums and improving the site rules would've been a more effective solution.

There's a problem with that theory though, it involves work, and BioWare has shown consistently that they want to avoid this place at all costs.

Treating Off Topic as if it was the "Garbage" section of the forums before and AFTER they shut it down comes to mind.
