I'm curious about the "toxicity" that's being discussed so much. Did something really nasty happen on the forum recently that I missed? Were people threatening devs or something?  The most "toxic" things I ever experienced here were a heated exchanges over if the Inquisitor should return in DA4...which wasn't really that bad and ended in apologies and better understanding anyway.

Mass Effect 3s ending comes to mind...

The toxic part was the ending, not the reaction to it.

You'd think if BioWare wanted to "punish" the community for being "toxic" it would have been when people started complaining about the ME3 ending or straight male Inquisitors not having enough romance options. What new things could we possibly have been complaining about in a "toxic" manner? I've always read about how "toxic"  tumblr and reddit are, not BSN. Now people on this thread inform me that WE are well known online as being "toxic" people and are unwanted on other forums?! I've always thought BioWare fans were awesome people.

Maybe I've just always frequented the tame threads.

DA2 and especially the ME3 ending was a mess. After that the Devs rarely were on these boards anymore.

That's how I feel now. I don't know if I can trust Bioware anymore though I wish their games sell well

I don't.  I hope their games sell well if the games are good.  I hope they sell great if they're great.  If terrible, as I expect MEA to be, I hope they're a financial failure.

The industry already filled its quota for garbage going triple adamantium.  Nothing deserves to succeed just because the company that made it.

And with this, I give you Exhibit A to the "toxic" slant.

So just a snarky comment, with no personal attack, no vile language is "toxic" now? That word has really lost any meaning, hasn't it?

I don't think their decision has to do with any recent increase in toxicity. If they planned to axe the forums eventually, this is probably a strategic decision to cut the forums loose between games while its relatively inactive.

Obviously. I never said otherwise. I mean that I don't want them to fail just because they are closing the forum (a terrible idea that contraidct everything they say). It's sad but what can we do? They already decided without wanting anyone's opinion.

Thanks to places like Tumblr, Twitter, etc, "toxic" is really just code for "filled with people that disagree with me".

No wonder Bioware considered the forums "toxic" then.

100% Bioware's fault.  The moderators at the time let the toxicity foster.  They made no effort to stop blatant trolls.  And then it became sort of an issue of "this has been allowed before, why crack down now?"  If Priestly and his mod team at the time had done their jobs and kept that "toxicity" down then things wouldn't have spun out of control.

How long ago was that exactly?

Although, most of the toxicity was lumped on Off Topic (which was generally the saner part of the forum) when it really was the ME3 sections (there is still porn floating around in some threads), and whatever social justice issue was flamed to hell in the DA section.

When Off Topic was closed down it was heralded as the "final solution" to the toxic problem, and that with Off Topic gone the forums would return to the mythical times of sunshine, rainbows, and unicorns it was supposedly before DA2 and ME3's endings. Of course, Off Topic was the scorn of the forums before those games as well, I should know, I used to propogate that myth before I met the wonderfully amusing (and sometimes sociopathic) members of it. I'd go into a whole description of it, but I alk ready did that when Off Topic closed.

The people of this forum were written off years ago, BioWare just decided to make it official and had the "courtesy" to tell us that we're all trash.

Well, I guess I'm feeling like a confused dog having its face shoved into a pile of waste on the carpet. Why am I being punished now and for what? Pulling the forum now for something that happened years ago sends a confusing message, and it hurts the wrong people. It wasn't even my turd. I don't have a single warning point to my name.

I'm not happy either. It really does suck and I'm going to miss the hell out of this place. I feel for you. Maybe try for a warning point before this place shuts down for good! Come to the dark side. I'm weirdly proud of my 2 points, lol.

I'll even miss some of the assholes I went round and round with on feminism. :P I suspect I'll make a home where the regressives are given the boot. No one to argue with, then, lol! As much as I complain, this was a great place to clash with my ideological opposites and hone my arguments with debate.

Moreso the dismissiveness of the entire topic and not contributing to anything is what I refer to as being toxic. But then again I teach for a living so anyone who is off topic is automatically wrong in my eyes.

Then again, that is most people on here ;).

I don't mind snarky though, by the way.

This is awfully shitty of BioWare, and the worst part is they don't even understand why. We use the forums to talk to other players, not devs. And if there's a problem with 'toxicity'--and I'm not convinced there is--then that's on BW for doing a worse job handling moderation than unpaid volunteers on Reddit. They've clearly been disconnected from the forums and the people who use them for a long time--which I guess explains why it was so easy for them to shut them down and delete them.

And that's my waning Andromeda hype finally being put out to pasture.  -_-

no we can't have an a/b/c ending, that's too video game-y

To be fair, we didn't get an A, B, C ending.  We got an A, A, A ending.  Totally different.
