I would agree, but David Gaider was replaced as lead DA writer by Patrick Weekes, who in my opinion is even worse. The future is not bright for BioWare.
I disagree wholeheartedly. DA2 is basically an entire game that's nothing but the ending to ME3. So many core parts of the story make no sense. The entire game revolves around Kirkwall being the house from Poltergeist. But no one, even foreigners, notice anything's out of the ordinary. If not for the Band of Three codex we wouldn't even know. Helen Keller would notice what's up with Kirkwall, but no one does because that'd break the terrible story. I could write an essay on DA2, but that's the biggest flaw there and more development time wouldn't have fixed it.
My biggest problem with Gaider's writing is the constant retcons. Everything has to be a grand moral dilemma. EVERYTHING. Corn flakes or waffles for breakfast? If you eat the cereal, then 5 children get kidnapped by a pedo but if you take the waffles then food storage will burn down and dozens of refugees will starve to death. This might be okay, except when he finds out that something isn't a grand moral dilemma, then he starts the retconning. Notice how in the base game, Loghain was just evil? Flemeth all but confirmed he did it as a power grab. And Morrigan would've gotten a sexual thrill out of being able to rub it in Alistair's face if there was any chance that Loghain's actions had any merit. But she didn't because she knew he did what he did solely for himself (and possibly Anora). So, everyone sides against him. Gaider is shocked that people don't like the regicide who sold his own people into slavery while murdering and torturing innocent people. So along comes the DLC and suddenly Loghain was right all along! Cailan was going to get himself and his army killed for the lulz, then he was planning to sell Ferelden out to Orlais. One wonders how he plans to do that since he's gonna be dead, but shut up we're retconning here. The DLC even opens with the king's servant telling the party about it and how Cailan knew they'd all die but did it anyway. Even Alistair doesn't protest. Yeah, that seems about right.
DA2 is basically a petulant response to everyone saving the mages in DAO. I mean sure, even pro-templar folks usually save them in DAO because it's just the best option. And in order to refuse to save them, you have to select dialogue with Wynne basically saying "I understand this means butchering helpless, terrified children and that sounds awesome!" Such a shock that people didn't take that route much!
