You know, it's pretty insulting to say this is about developers no longer reading here, as if Bioware is doing us all a favor by closing the forums. As if there's not 1000+ page threads of users solely talking to each other.

So very true. I came to the boards to engage with other forum members.

I hate social media lol,it's fine as long as i don't need to register.
Forums are more comfortable and easier to browse and find stuff.

Maybe EA just wants us to use their forums. (http://forum.ea.com/)

... But there's only a board for sports games and a board for mobile/social games...

On the plus side, it'll now be easier for me to put off buying Bioware games. I generally wanted to buy them so I could be part of the conversation here, without that I can probably save me some money and get 'em when they're £15 or so.

That's just sad. :(

I remember the day my beloved Harry Potter book discussion forum shut down...... :(

Forums are tons more fun than social media.

I hate twitter.

I hate twitter, facebook, instagram, whatever the other ones are called. I can't stand them.

This is really the only place I am socially active. Without this forum, I might as well become a fully fledged recluse and go insane from staring at the same four walls all day, every day.

Losing this place is not going to be any good for my sanity, which is already questionable as it is.

Hmmm... been on the BSN since 2009.    Shame that it has come to this.   This was a pretty disappointing day.   Only real game forum I ever really checked frequently.   I guess all companies have to let their fans down at some time or another.

Having a hard time avoiding this conclusion myself, but it seems inevitable.

And Twitter, Instagram, Reddit, etc. are total crap.

Reddit is probably the closest thing to a site that would support any decent discussion but I hate the layout of it.

Though I'm mostly wondering what I'll do for posting information about mechanics and **** if ME4 MP actually does take off in a similar fashion to how ME3 MP did.

I suppose there's always the "I'll go make my own site, with blackjack, and hookers" option.

Does this mean I have to learn to use reddit to be a "valued customer"?

Or have 1,000 Twitter followers?

Or... I was going to use a Facebook analogy, but honestly I have no idea what Facebook actually does, so I can't.

The logic behind this is indefensible. No one who posts here is only doing so because of dev interaction. The Andromeda forum proves that beyond a shadow of a doubt. Devs have never interacted with us there and yet it's very active, with hundreds of daily users.

Exactly. In my years on this site, I have never even seen a dev post. I often visit to discuss things with other people and the only reason why the topic isn't Mass Effect anymore is because I have talked about pretty much everything there is. If they want us to be good little ego-feeding drones, at least throw us a bone.

It's obvious that I lost all respect for the company, but I'll stay polite.

The forums became too large and the company does not want to invest in moderation. So, first they shut down the off-topic forums, in the hope that some of the vocal people left and that this saved the moderators some work. However, that didn't cut down the number of people criticizing the company and their games. And thus, there was one solution left: Shut it all down.

It's a simple business decision, designed to reduce cost.

I bet that the stockholders will be happy.

BioWare never have been able to take criticism. They're herding everyone towards Reddit, Tumblr and Twitter especially where dissenters can be promptly blocked and/or ignored.

They mostly went away when we were moved to this new format.

But back in the days before BSN, on the BioBoards (2008 and earlier), there were devs here all the time.

I'm pretty sure Facebook is actually just a delivery system for baby pictures and those stupid "inspirational" quote images.

Anyway somebody is going to create a private forum ?

Reddit is kind of alright but I prefer the old fashioned forum format where I can vaguely remember who is what.

As for the Bioware decision ...no comment.

You don't see CDPR shutting down the Witcher forums and many other publishers/devs have their own forums. Paradox are great as are Blizzards and they put a lot of work into theirs alongside maintain social media. It's not like the games are on Steam where they do have a sort of forum, which is helpful for indie devs who can't afford what EA can. Sure Reddit is okay but there's a lot of interesting history and discussion on these forums.

Plus the ability to set up hidden forums for beta testers back during the days of the keep testing before DA:I was out.

Sure these forums can be a bit mad but with proper moderation they can be good.

Well, darn!

Out of lurkendom just to say that I don't like this AT ALL.

I may not post much but this has been the place, in some capacity and under different names, where I've come (and still do come) to read different opinions, look for answers/help, look up mods or news since the days of NWN. Devs presence notwithstanding.

I think it's a really bad call on Bioware's part. I guess I'll be lurking on reddit and neogaf from now on, sorry about the other social media sites but Tumblr or Twitter and so on really aren't meant for me.

This said, before the forums close for good I hope somebody will put up a comprehensive list of sites, and forums especially, that deal with Bioware projects and so on where one's able to read good discussions.

I didn't leave the community, the community left me. Sad sad day.

Why shut this forum down though? It hasn't been properly moderated in a long time. Developer posts were few and far between, but it was still active with people talking about your games. There are character threads that are 1000's of pages long, where else are you going to have that stuff?

Facebook is private for me, for my friends and family and I don't use it for my geek portal. I hate Twitter and it's damn limits, don't get me started on Tumblr because it's just confusing as hell. I come here every day, there is always something that makes me giggle or shake my head and I love it. It makes the wait for your next games seems to go by faster.

Why not just give the fans the wheel? There are so many passionate people here I'm sure would gladly help out. I don't know, I just think BioWare is hurting themself in the long run with shutting this down.

The BioWare forums are where I truly became “a fan”. It’s where I was able to interact with other fans, share ideas, be kept informed on game development, and form a deeper love with BioWare products. I’ll put it this way: without the forums having been there, there probably wouldn’t be a BioFan today. I’m very disappointed in the decision to close down the forums. Sure there are other social media platforms for fans, but none that quite offered the same level of organized development information or longer-term common interest discussion. If fans wanted to get together to share their love/ideas/theories/etc for a character (like Cullen for example) the forums offered a great venue to discuss the character over a longer period of time. The forums served, for many, as an easy medium to navigate and learn details about upcoming games they were interested in. Other social media outlets offer this, but in a much more limited or time sensitive manner. While the developers themselves may not visit the forums often, it is a well-used venue for the BioWare community.

Could we set up a /r/biowaretweets maybe? That way it'd be an easy way to stay informed without having to dig through mountains of fan art.

:)  I for one don't tweet.  I do Facebook a little, but you really can't get good discussions going on Facebook.   Really too bad.

I don't use Facebook or Twitter and whilst I watch items on YouTube, I don't post there.    I've really enjoyed coming to these boards.    It was a great place to get advice if you have problems with the game and for exchanging ideas.    Sometimes things can get a bit heated but on the whole it is good natured and I like getting alternate points of view.   People post great fan-art too.    Oh well, I guess that's it then.   No community and nothing to keep my interest for the 2 years plus until the next Dragon Age Game.   It was these forums that really fired up my interest for DAI as we anticipated what was to come.     If I missed anything new on a general search of the Internet I could guarantee someone would flag it up here.   Mind you, it is disappointing to learn that the Devs never come here any more.   Guess they don't want all the feedback from fans.

This is a serious question. Where are people supposed to go for technical support for BioWare games and things like Dragon Age Keep?  Twitter is not even close to realistic for that.

My other big concern is when playing old games I often find answers to questions on old posts here.  Will those no longer be available?

For technical support, that is still officially provided by Answers HQ. These forums have not had official tech support for some time.

You can also tweet to the official Dragon Age or Mass Effect accounts with a description of your issue and someone will provide you support, either by reaching out directly or by pointing you to the answer or solution.

The old posts will unfortunately no longer be available after October 25, 2016.
