I wish. I've barely got enough pain pills to take the edge off.

I should fall back on that whenever I get called out for being a jerk. If someone saying something mean to you years ago gives you a free pass, I'm sure chronic agony is an acceptable excuse. :eyeroll:

1. Games have pandered to men because that's what the devs wanted at the time. And there was nothing wrong with that.

2.Consumer rights don't include the design of something you'd like to have.

3.Ask whatever you want. The problem starts when/if you think you're being wronged when/if you don't get it.

1- Because they didn't expect women to like videogames one day. Their target audience was solely men.

It so happens that women aren't predestined to like cooking, babysitting and other exclusive domestic/motherly activities. That's a social convention which created a distorted image of how women are in reality for over, what? Years? Decades? Centuries?

Did you know there are more women than men attending Math classes in American universities today? Conventions are just that. They don't mean anything. Some people live by them, others are brought up to find a different path. Like I was. I'm not a house wife, nor do I teach young children, like women traditionally do. I have a job, I teach and I've chosen to postpone marriage until I have better conditions to balance domestic life and work. Still an unusual choice for women, but one that's becoming more and more common nowadays.

I've been playing games ever since I was a little kid. Most of my male friends were surprised when they learned of this. I bet the reaction was similar when gaming companies realized they missed a huge potential market on women.

Now they're investing to satisfy our requests as well - not our DEMANDS or RIGHTS - and developing far broader games with a more complete content to please as much of their audience as they can. We're just an unexpected potential market they're exploring. I'm not a crazy feminist talking about rights here, nor do I associate with SJW or any of that crap. I don't stalk and harass people online because "feminism rules". I'm just stating the obvious. And you'll find this position in a lot other women AND men as well. Especially among fathers who have little girls, you know.

There is a difference between demanding of developers to change their existing games and asking them for more variety in games overall. At the end of day, if it's worth for them they'll go for it and I won't pretend that'd make me unhappy.

I don't mind established franchises carrying on with their default male protags.

Finally, a reasonable version of the female witcher thing.

If only more people who want more female protagonists were like this.

I just think there is a lot of miscommunication on both sides. I haven't seen anything in this thread tonight that would go against the point I was making. It still comes down to "I wish I could have a female protag in TW". The rest is lost in the ambiguity of the written word

*snip*

1. Or maybe they just created games they themselves felt were fun to them and hoped to make an audience out of like-minded people.

As for the rest of your post you just used too many words to say "women can like games too and ask for them". Okay. Sure, that's fine. Nothing wrong with that, I never said there was.

Priestly and Gaider totally deserved the abuse they got because of the way they acted.

And this mindset is why we're where we are today.

1. Yeah, I'm sure Nintendo execs back in the 80s held their board meetings like "We need MORE MEN to buy our games, how can we get MEN to buy our games?" I don't see how that weird tangent about women not being homemakers has any bearing on this discussion, nobody brought it up before you. There are also more women in universities than men, period, because men don't benefit from affirmative action in the same way women do. Again though, this has nothing to do with anything. The only people who say that garnering financial stability before getting married is an unusual decision, are feminists. I'm not just generalizing there either, I have literally never seen anyone say that who wasn't a feminist who already fear-monger women into thinking they're less than men.

I rather doubt your friends were actually "surprised" to learn that you played games, unless you were friends with actual sexists. The tremendous, overwhelming majority of people don't care what you are, they care who you are. Personally, if I know a woman and I discover she plays games, I don't go "whoa, girls play gaems too?" No, I friend her on whatever gaming service she uses and ask if she wants to play something sometime, and leave it at that. You know, like 99% of the rest of the population.

They're demands. You can claim otherwise all you want, but they're demands. Not requests, demands. The only other men I've seen regurgitate this kind of crap are men like Steve "I'm sorry honey I won't listen to music anymore" Shives, or Anthony "Do my wife, no I don't mind if she does it behind my back" Burch, who are, shall we say, not good sources to listen to if you want to know what men think. You say you're not a feminist or an SJW, but each and every one of your talking points is almost word for word the same as one would expect from a feminist or a social justice warrior.

Also, and this is unrelated to anything, but you put a "1." like you were starting a list, and never followed up with a 2.

And this mind set is why we're where we are today.

Yes , people having different ideas about what is proper to say in a discussion board about electronic toys is why all discussion will be silenced.

That makes sense.

It's totally rational.

Not agreeing on how to speak? Well no  one will speak!

Yes.

Exactly. I'm talking about having more options.

The amount of reaction to this simple statement was disproportionate.

I suggested this to a friend of mine more over a year ago -he's father to a lovely young lady - and he automatically agreed. He's gotten her into videogames, so he understood the idea.

I think some people forget SJWs are likely to attack everyone, even other women. Not every woman arguing for more options in games has a secret feminist agenda.

It's also ignoring that Priestly and Gaider threw out the exact same "abuse" (it's not abuse, it's words online, they mean less than nothing). They're grown men who can take responsibility for what they say and do, not children who need to be coddled. If they don't want dissent, then they shouldn't be ***holes about it.

Lol, seeing Casey's face in the video thumb reminded me; I found this old gem while sorting through my image folder the other day. Now it feels sadly relevant!
