Repost from the BW closure forum... Me:

Hey, Big Idea.. SPEND MORE TIME ON YOUR OWN FORUMS.  You know some customers/user base actually use them every day and the built knowledge base for some of the games is not replaceable or find-able elsewhere. You're shooting yourself in the face as this is my go to source for MEA info and this makes me wonder what Bioware's commitment to their 'fans' will be like in the future.  How much does it really cost you guys to keep the forums up and running?  Is it such a massive expense that it's breaking your ability to make games?   I'll go back to my collection of old games before i support half-efforts on new titles.  I research before I buy, and you're removing that ability from every person moving forward.  Again, why on earth would you do that?

Make your staff use your forums, provide real feedback and work witht he community or you're no better than the reputation EA holds.  Trying hard to keep you guys separate, but maybe I should not.

The sheer value of feedback alone should be reason to keep the forums running.  Does Bioware have zero interest in giving their customers what they want overall?  To fix and not repeat mistakes leading to worse glitches in new titles?  Tell me you're actually working to improve your games, not push out broken products like every other crap game maker...

i'm aghast.

*snip*

Actually, I could care less if the devs, artists or writers visit the forum. I don't come to this site to touch base with any of those individuals. I come here for information regarding gameplay mechanics, tips and tricks from the people who actually play this game...and that'd be us.

The thought that the forum should be shut down because the devs never visit is ludicrous. It shouldn't be about the developers. It should be about the people who play BioWare games, also known colloquially as "the customer". That's who the forum should be for.

You are right but missing half the value of these forums.   You SHOULD care that Bioware devs/ppls do/should read the forums.   Yes, the forums are invaluable for information for us, the gamers, however the game company should be part of the community that uses the products, unless you want to pay AAA title price for a game with next to no real advances in game substance.

There are many questions only Bioware can answer, if you want to rely on GameFAQ 13 yr old know it alls who know nothing and have to wonder how legit this info is from people you don't know (unlike here were you can really know the people and their post history).  If a Bioware employee/dev posts, you can relatively trust it is legit. any other site.. good luck.   Having to tweet at someone and maybe get a reply and maybe have it be helpful is very questionable in most cases, and do we really want to tether more people to the ****** cellphones to reply to tweets all day instead of do their dev work on games we want and love?

Forums are legit, they work and for now these bulletin board style forums are all we have.  I actually have been working on something that would work to replace them but these forum BB tools seem to suit most people just fine to not care for better alternatives.

This strikes me as if some 65 yr old EA exec who doesn't have a ****** clue told BW to shut down old tie in efforts without having a clue of the value. It strkes me as much like when i started doing IT work for domestic clients 17 years ago who just don't know or care to know the value of computers.   I think today most of us do know this value, and i simply don't see how abdicating a connection to your user/customer base as a smart move for building solid AAA title games of the calibre Bioware has elevated the bar to.

It's about us, but it's about all of us, devs included.  We work together to get what we want, what we desire, what we demand, what we pay for.

Well this is a sh!tty thing to read just before going to bed & I really question the logic behind it, even if the devs don't use this site as much as they used to, it is still a social network where fans of Bioware games come to talk, learn from & interact with each other. I wouldn't have had half as much fun from ME3MP & DAIMP as I have don over the years as I would have given up from not learning tips & tricks for the games.

When I first learned of the BSN (through DA:O) I thought that it was a very good & unique idea, a place for people to come together, but alas, it seems that time has come to an end, I don't have twitter & I don't plan on making an account, going to miss logging in here every day to see what's going on.

Been nice knowing you all & I'll still be here until they turn the lights off.

Catch you later guys & gals!

OK, they're low on money or whatever, but closing down the main forums where we get to discuss about the game? wtf will happen when ME:A comes out...??

Let's all go back to reddit! /s

I posted this news on the Bioware Reddit 2 hours ago with zero replies.  https://www.reddit.c...r/bioware/new/

Now look at the reply numbers on https://forum.biowar...entry20412198.

Does Bioware really want to throw away that much access to those they need to keep making games?

Wow. Weird decision. This had become a staple of my day, and even while playing other games in between I kept up to date with the forum.

Oh well, I'll check out Autumns place and hopefully see many of you there. Reddits been pretty dead so don't pop over there often.

These sort of decisions don't bode well for improvements in future games really.

Oh come on how much does a web forum cost a company to run? And feedback? They never listened to most feedback anyways. BSN BioWare Social Network this is supposed to be for the fans no for bioware.

EA is a company that lives by a code, and that code is "cutting costs by cutting corners". I wouldn't be surprised if some corporate suit decided that shutting this place down would not only save a tiny bit of money, but also shut down a lot of criticism.

And you're right, this place has always been about discussing biower games with other biower fans. Take the DA:I combat mechanics forum; the devs provided no input beyond occasionally replying in bug threads, the information came from extensive testing and data mining by users like ghoxen and aznricepuff.

Even here on the MP forum where the devs were relatively active, a lot of information was gleaned by the users. So the entire argument that the lack of dev interaction is harmful to us is a steaming pile of equine manure.

But hey, 140 characters on Twitter is plenty for a detailed write-up of combat formulae. And a gif on tumblr is an upgrade for lengthy lore discussions.

Don't misunderstand, Kallen. I didn't snip your comments because they're not worth repeating, I snipped them because they're pretty long. As for the forum value, I believe that if the developers can extract some value out of the forum it's a good thing, but the true value of the forum is keeping their customers engaged in their product line. In this case it's their core base of fans who play these games time after time and will be the first to pre-order when a a new game is announced.

Shutting down the forum is a foolish move, both from a publicity POV and a business POV.

Just realized this is it. Why pay to run a forum when reddit will do it for you? 2% more in some fatcat's pocket.

For any one who cares, I host a Dragon Age Social Site (and MP section) that also has a Mass Effect Section and a huge Off-topic section. Please feel free to come by. It will remain open as long as we have members. At my own personal cost BTW.

https://realdragonagefans.forums.net/

It says "You have been banned from this forum." when I open it, which is impressive I guess, since I've never even visited there for more than a glance, much less post anything.

reddit is just a forum. FromSoftware (Dark Souls, Bloodborne) uses it and their fans love them.

This is total bullshit. Their reasoning for closing down the forums is because THEY don't come here anymore? Well guess what? WE DO! I don't care that Bioware employees ignore this board.

First they shutdown the original BSN, now this. It's like they don't want us playing their games.

News flash, Social media nonsense is NOT a suitable replacement for forums.

Agreed. I think we could all care less about developers here. Heck, I could care less about moderation in general here. This is the only resource for accurate information and the only place to ask questions with other users. I highly doubt any of us will use social media related to this. I value my privacy and anonymity. And the statement where they said they could talk to us in person at shows was laughable and a ridiculous suggestion that appeals to nearly no one.
