EDIT: Conal kindly informed me to post this thread in this board instead. Consider this thread moved I guess: https://forum.biowar...bioware-forums/

Guys, they're gonna close the forums down!

http://blog.bioware....ing-our-forums/

Concerning Our Forums

Spoiler

So, the basic logic here is that the developers don't come to these forums to interact anymore and don't get feedback from them, so they're closing the forums down. If we care at all about these boards, we need to speak out now.

1) DON'T BOTHER COMPLAINING HERE. Take to social media. Respond to Bioware's tweet. Link: https://twitter.com/...058847088508930  Go on their facebook. Take to reddit if you know how to reddit.

2) BE POLITE. Express a desire to keep the forums open, but don't call them names or attack them. Focus on what the forums mean to you and why you want them open and not how utterly stupid their reasoning is, honestly

If there was ever a time to create a social media account or interact with them elsewhere, I guess its now. Let's make ourselves heard, BSN!

It is not enough money to maintain ... Completely understandable if they closed, non-profit, not worth it.

Please tell me if they change their mind, my plan was simply to go crazy across the BSN and be banned prematurely

I had a lot really wanted to say, because this place has given me so much over the years.

In the official thread, Conal said the decision wasn't due to money, which makes it much more puzzling to me as to why they're doing it. The social media they list aren't places for discussion, and frankly, Twitter in particular makes me feel like I'm shouting into a void (especially if you don't have 100s of people retweeting what you tweet.) Even though devs had Twitter accounts, it never felt like most of us were welcome to say anything (and how much can you really discuss in, what, a 20 word limit for tweets?) Nothing on the FB page had anything to do with discussing DA:I, just lots of "who's your favorite..." type things and contests. Cute, but discussion?

The lack of a central point from which all information can be filtered through to third party sites.

Sucks.

A lot of youtube vids are just repeating what they see here for example. The same for twitter and other places. Without that there is no msg, just Chinese whispers.

What we will now get is one message for twitter, another for facebook etc.

Which means we don't all have the same information. We all have bits and pieces of information, gathered as best we could from various sources.

Discussion will die.

The ability to socialise with other fans in a way that is productive and informative is greatly limited.

And more importantly Bio is going to lose the what little control they have over the conversation.

It's do and say what ever you want out there in most cases.

Nothing you can do about it though guys. Just roll with it till its done with.

I think they've had enough of "discussions". Now they just want to dispense the pills. How we take it is our own business. Don't like it? We can just slap a bad line over at Twitter, etc and it gets scrub off / vanish quickly. Like it? Slap a line of praise which they'll likely let shine.

I really hope they would reconsider. The forums are the best place to read about / discuss the lore and to get help and guidance. To shut it all down and delete all the contents fans have been creating for years seems totally counterintuitive. Also as many of you I hate using twitter and reddit. I'm affraid that this decision will backfire on Bioware as angry fans will be more critical and less civil with the games

Honestly, without the community here to discuss the games, I gotta say my desire to play their games is greatly diminished, ESPECIALLY now that I'm on a PC and not xbox live anymore. All the fanfiction and stuff, reading fan theories and being able to respond and throw in your own, etc, all that made me want to play Inquisition and favor Inquisition a lot. I played the hell out of DAO because it was easier to. More actual content, less fetchy tasks.

Inquisition being so fun for me had a lot to do with you guys as I'd only decided to play it so thoroughly because I wanted to discover more about the lore with the rest of you, again because I wasn't on xbox live and was seeking people to interact with concerning the games. Honestly, without that, I'd have been a lot less driven to play this game. I guess there's the steam forums but meh. This community despite the many annoyances was more entertaining.

I really think they're greatly underestimating how valuable it is for fans to see that Bioware has a place like this for fans to discuss their games. It impressed me back when I was just a lurker, same for Bethesda's forums. They nuked their old one too and made this ramshackle crap to replace the previous one but only for the more current titles, and it's not very user friendly. And now Bioware's doing this.

I used to greatly enjoy just lurking the forums back when the old one was still around, reading all the posts from fellow fans and what they had to say about the game. It was what helped me decide to actually start playing my first bioware titles. For people to be so passionate about their games, it must've been good I thought. And they were, Mass Effect especially will always be a favorite series of mine.

They're making a very big mistake, but alas.
