Hello *waves*

Tried to google-fu this and searched through the forum, but only stumbled over general "who is better"-threads, so not what I am searching for.

I play a dalish elf mage and I try my very best to set Cassandra to be the next divine.

However I chose and freed the mages and it looks like I'm in quiet some trouble in making her the divine now.

I used this wiki site and it seems I'm kinda forced now in the "who rules Orlais" question to either get Celene killed or this truce (though only one or two wrong words about Leliana and the truce will be useless to 'not' get her to become the divine).

Now my big question is:

I read in the wiki, that you actually "trigger" Leliana's candidacy very late in the game when you do her personal quests.

- Can I actually get Leliana to not participate in the whole election or do I mess up her personal quest then?

Problem is, that Leliana is together with my DA:O Warden and Vivienne is just a no-go for me to become divine. So I wonder if - to save Leliana from the burden and live free with her lover - I should choose Celene's death and Gaspards ruling no matter what, or if I can actually allow myself some free choice in this matter (one which fits to my dalish elf inquisitor) and just not let Leliana participate at all.

Leliana actually spends more time with the warden as divine. The relationship seems happier as divine

Oh, so for their romance it's actually kinda better if Leliana is divine? O_O (I totally thought it would be a great burden to the romance)

That actually sounds great then. *chuckles* (yes I'm a total Leliana-Fan :P)

Guess I don't need to force myself then anymore to decisions I might not want to make.

*mumbles* Still not really happy with being forced to certain story-decisions to make someone I want divine in the end *frowns*

There are various factors that influence who becomes Divine apart from the Wicked Hearts quest.   Is this your first play through because I wouldn't want to spoil things for you?

Suffice to say that my first run I allied with the mages and reconciled Celene with Briala and still got Cassandra as Divine.   I think the other major plot decision may have been critical to this, plus making sure that I specifically voted for Cassandra on the War Table.   I still did Leliana's personal quest and it was only if I didn't vote for Cassandra that I got Leliana.

It also probably helps if you always tell Cassandra that you think she would make a good Divine but in the above case I was originally aiming for Leliana to be Divine and then changed my mind at the end, so everything was the same except my vote for Cassandra.

It does no harm to the relationship if she is Divine but if she isn't then she just enjoys a nice retirement with her lover.   You need to play Trespasser though to get this ending.

It is my first playthrough, but about the divine-election I pretty much spoiled myself totally already, so no worries about saying something.

Problem with me is: there most likely will not be a second playthrough. Not cause I dislike the game, just simply cause I'm someone who hardly ever plays a game more than once (especially not with games that last for 80++ hours).

That is why I am so after getting Cassandra to divine after knowing that even story-decisions make it into who will be elected.

I went after these numbers which were shown in a wiki to the election and it seems, with wardens not-exiled (not totally made this decision yet, but soon I have to) and celene not killed Cassandra will be (with the mission for supporting her) just like 1 point ahead of Leliana.

I know it's bad to play after these informations... but since I play the game only once I at least want to give Leliana her very best ending. *smirks*

I exiled the Wardens but it was still a near run thing.   I definitely had to vote for Cassandra to get her.   Otherwise it was Leliana.    To be honest, if your Warden is in a romance with Leliana it is good either way.   If your Inquisitor is in a romance with Cassandra then it is rather more important to get it right.   She will break it off if she becomes Divine.

I made sure that I don't have a Leliana and Cassandra romance in the same game *smirks*

(Just no way I want Vivienne as divine...)

Guess for now I just play with the decisions which my mind tells me to do (which fits the character) and see where I end. Good to know that Leliana becoming divine is not a mayor breakup between her and the warden.

So thanks alot for the answers and informations :]

Important note for Divine Vivviene (and how to get/not get her as Divine):

As befitting of a talented player of the game, a great deal of Vivviene's divine election points are tied to dialogue (as far as we can tell, anyway, the mechanics are still occasionally debated). They can be easily identified as they are mostly topics concerning how mages fit in with the Chantry. Otherwise, most of Vivienne's other divine election points are based on storyline actions but are really small in comparison to points Lelianna or Cassandra can gain.

I also believe that Vivienne has an "Support as Divine" operation, but I am not sure.
