Guys, they're gonna close the forums down!

http://blog.bioware....ing-our-forums/

Concerning Our Forums

Spoiler

So, the basic logic here is that the developers don't come to these forums to interact anymore and don't get feedback from them, so they're closing the forums down. If we care at all about these boards, we need to speak out now.

1) DON'T BOTHER COMPLAINING HERE. Take to social media. Respond to Bioware's tweet. Link: https://twitter.com/...058847088508930  Go on their facebook. Take to reddit if you know how to reddit.

If you tweet, try #SaveBSN

2) BE POLITE. Express a desire to keep the forums open, but don't call them names or attack them. Focus on what the forums mean to you and why you want them open and not how utterly stupid their reasoning is, honestly

If there was ever a time to create a social media account or interact with them elsewhere, I guess its now. Let's make ourselves heard, BSN!

The problem with this is that Bioware/EA doesn't see the forum as a necessity anymore. Its excess baggage to them. No amount of "save it!" is going to make them save it. And I say that as someone who constantly pushed for optimism when this place was swimming in pessimism.

That worked out so well for Offtopic, what makes you think they'd reverse a decision they actually save a good chunk of money from (domain, server bandwidth, moderators and webpage team)?

I'm still going to do my best to let them know I want these forums open. If you care at all about them, then you should do the same, instead of just coming in here and bemoaning how pointless it is. Please see point 1 in the OP. Thank you.

I agree with the intent, but as I do not use the other social media mentioned, guess I shall encourage those that do.

Except I have ample empiric evidence collected throughout my personal experience with BioWare's recent community interactions that all point out the futitlity of this endeavour.

I still cared enough to fight against the forced eviction of the Offtopic subsection and it didn't mean anything to BioWare. I'm not going to bash my head against a brickwall when I already know the brickwall is in fact steel-reinforced composite concrete graded to survive near misses from nuclear detonations.

And we're not on Reddit yet, so you can't downvote my comment into the abyss because it's not conforming with your sentimental preferences of what kind of response you want to see. Same as BioWare won't suddenly go "Wait guys, Elizabeth wants the forum to stay: take everything back now, we're reverting our decision!!!" just because you want them to.

I appreciate where you are coming from. You know that I do because I have long been a supporter of these forums.

And I will make my voice heard in Conal's little damage control thread here. That's all that it is, though. And I have expressed myself politely on Twitter.

But nothing is going to change. I feel that way because a year or so ago, I did reach out - to a few devs, privately - with ideas on forum improvement. I wrote a nice, well thought-out six-page dissertation on the problems the forum suffered and several ideas of how each problem point could possibly be improved, and expressed how much the forums meant to me and to many others.

Clearly, that meant nothing in the end.

They came for the off-topic groups and I said nothing because I did not care about the off-topic groups...

Then they came for the off-topic forum and, again, I said nothing because I did not use the off-topic forum...

And now that they've come for the forum itself, there is no one left to speak for us.

I'm literally sick to my stomach, I am so upset about this right now. And for the first time in all of my many years here, I have no hope, no optimism in any of this. That is not to say I will not speak my peace in every channel I can - rage, rage against the dying of the light - but it's a battle I go into fully expecting to lose. This is the last battle in 300. No Spartan is going into this thinking it will be anything more than a sacrificial final statement.

Tried that for the Off Topic section, nothing changed.

Nothing will change here. The ONLY way this MIGHT change is if enough people at Bioware threw a stink about the closure of this place and managed to convince whoever was behind this to flip the script. And thats if they did it on a good day.

You're not telling anyone who wants to fight to save BSN anything new. So what is it you are trying to accomplish in a thread that is trying to rally people to try? Do you think you are helping someone? Saving someone from untold anguish that's worse than not doing anything at all?

It may not work, but it certainly won't work if no one tries. Corollary, us giving up simply because you say it is futile would be a self-fulfilling prophecy. It's not like it is costing us or you a lot to try, so why do you care if we do?

I invite you to examine your intentions.

I will, of course, add my voice to the people who wish to save these forums, not just for the future, but for the memories as well.

However, it may also be wise to try and suggest a way to preserve the community. Are there good forums out there?

So what?

I don't get the mindset of, it failed 1000 times before, so there is no point in trying again. Why do you care if a bunch of people try to do something you consider futile? Why do you post these warnings of failure in a thread about rallying people to try? It's not constructive.

Look, everyone in this thread, if you have any illusions about how simple and easy it is going to be to convince Bioware to save BSN, listen up. It's not simple. It's not easy. There is no silver bullet. Probability is extremely low and the certainty of success isn't.

BUT

The only thing that is certain to not help is to not try.

Your point only works under the assumption that the decision BioWare is not final.

It is final. It is announced and a deadline has been set. BioWare is well past the point-of-no-return in the decision-making process.

And intentions fail to be relevant if they conflict with reality. Which is what I've said. If you don't like to accept that simple fact, you're welcome to try and change their minds, I'm just telling you how it is, based on conclusive, firsthand experience that's contrasting with wishful thinking.

Any energy spent trying to fight the decision is better spent getting familiar with Reddit or whatnot if you intend to continue being a part of the BioWare fandom (=/= community), because they won't budge.

Is that really the point? Yes, this may be fruitless. And it may not be. If we're gonna go down, at least we can try to not have it be with only a whimper.

This has been proposed. It looks like a workable forum.

Easy to remember URL. Has both Dragon Age and Mass Effect sections, though the 3 Mass Effect boards are nested within the off topic section in case you find them hard to spot.

I'm simultaneously working on contingency plans in case this attempt fails. Most people are capable of doing more than one thing at a time. You still aren't doing anything constructive in this thread.

Your concern is noted, but it's not your job to take care of my feelings or shield me from disappointment. Or anyone else's who, knowing how steep the uphill battle will be, still wants to try.

They're not gonna change their minds. Even if they did, which they won't, at this point I'm just - **** them. So much for a company that values their tight community of fans. Overall, I'm as surprised as you are, wtf BW? But it is what it is. There goes my personal hope for getting hyped about Andromeda. I need involved social interaction to get into specific games, and social media won't provide that. Time for me to move on to other franchises for the time being. Will probably still play MEA sometime, whenever it's on sale.

Frankly, I'm glad that they're going to be removed.

I've met a few good folks here, but for the most part it's been sarcasm and a glaring lack of sense and decency.

So good on them for solving the problem, until we the people can grasp the concept of courtesy and re-learn how to hold a conversation.

Andromeda can go away. Well, for those who don't want it. Still not sure if I'll ever play it.
