Frankly, I'm glad that they're going to be removed.

I've met a few good folks here, but for the most part it's been sarcasm and a glaring lack of sense and decency.

So good on them for solving the problem, until we the people can grasp the concept of courtesy and re-learn how to hold a conversation.

Yeah, that's what social media are going to do, it's been so deep and courteous out there.

I think at this point vaguely trying to save the community is more important.

Bioware don't want the forums anymore.

Whatever , Bioware hasn't been doing anything for the forum community for ages.

We got a new shiny forum and everyone went poof!

I think it's better to find new places to settle and bring people there.Yes it won't be like the BSN but so be it.

Anyway so far there's like three/four forums open to take (hum) BSN  "refugees".

http://topshelfgaming.boards.net/

http://vroomvroom.freeforums.net/

http://www.rpgcodex.net/

https://realdragonagefans.forums.net/

Topshelfgaming and Vroom Vroom network are more about off topic stuff , they were created after the destruction of the off topic section of BSN.

RPG codex forum is a forum about RPG.If you don't mind getting burned , the good thing is you find discussions about old school RPG.Or RPG people don't really talk about (I know it was one of the rare board I've read to find info about Tides of Numenera ).

Realdragonagefans is a forum about dragon age , but there's some off topic section and ME stuff.

I'm reposting this from the other thread that's now closed because there's no point rewriting my thoughts. But oh, will I have more...

Reaction 1: "Hey, we decided not to interact here, so now we're going to close this place down because we don't interact here anymore."

A8gom2S.jpg

What the hell? Why does Bioware constantly make such bad decisions, especially concerning PR and this forum? Here's a great idea, let's not have an official forum for our games at all! Even with ME:A coming out fairly soon! It's not like every single other company has one or anything.

But hey, it's okay, "Now we can travel around the world, meeting with you face-to-face at events like PAX, SDCC, and even shows in our own backyard." Because we couldn't travel the world a few years ago? Right, I'm sure all of us are just going to fly all the way to a convention! Because that's plausible. Are they freaking serious? Do they know how preposterous that is to say? And Youtube? Oh, yeah, loads of dev conversations and fan conversation happens there, right?  *sigh* I wonder if they had this in mind since they closed off-topic...

And they have this backwards. They seem to think all this forum was ever for, all all gaming forums are for, is to talk to the devs. What about basic community interaction itself? That's the core, always has been. The only place they mentioned that that could possibly take place in any meaningful way is Reddit, and I have my issues with its style for this sort of thing. More importantly, we shouldn't have to go anywhere else. Having an official forum is standard for a reason.

Reaction 2: This is incredibly disheartening, and showcases Bioware's utter disconnect they have with fans. I don't do social media, I don't care about social media. You can't have any worthwhile discussion on Twitter. Reddit's layout is odd and impersonal. I find this forum much more social, to be honest. You can actually get a sense of people's personalities.

More importantly, I only go here! I know people here, sort of, anyway. And since I'm basically a recluse, it's important to me to have some kind of interaction beyond my family, talking about things I like. This is ridiculous! I can't be the only one here who prefers this forum. I actually find it much, much more pleasant than most of the internet. But Bioware doesn't care about their community, they just want to be applauded on Twitter. They can't just let their community continue on here? Is that really too much? Don't punish us for the devs not visiting. That's not our fault.

And of course, this situation is perfect for them and terrible for us, in the sense that the people who love social media are the ones less likely to voice any concern, and the ones who don't - the ones who go here, can't voice concern.

This makes me a very, very sad Banshee.

Edit: @ArcadiaGrey There, I pasted it into another thread :P And thanks!

Could be. If for no other reason than to catalog. Anyone know where I'd go to make one?

Thing is it's the same deal when they closed the Off topic.

We're at a low time for forum population beyond regular users.

There won't be news for MEA until later and when there's going to be news and perhaps people looking for a forum , there won't be one anymore.

I want to express my profound sadness at this news.  I spend more time on these forums, then anywhere else.  And this is the only place where real dialogue seems to take place discussing a specific game.  Reddit is too broad, having a dragonage forum but it encompasses everything Dragon Age.  There is no real focus on game mechanics, combat, builds, tips, etc.  It's just all over the place.

This is just...sad.  I use this site so much.  I use it for information from Mass Effect 1, 2, and 3.  I use it for Dragon Age Origins, DA2, and Inquisition.  There are threads for builds.  There are threads for sliders and face codes.  There is just...so much.  Closing this down would be like like wiki shutting down.  Does it cost too much to maintain the servers?  Are you suffering DOS attacks on the servers themselves?

I can only surmise that it was management making this decision, under the assumption that similar venues exist out there for your fan base.  Well there aren't.  Everything you could possible reference is poorly maintained and so mixed together.  We may as well rely on searching Tumblr for random meme's that give us gaming tips.

I'm sad.  I realize there were probably reasons, and those reasons are probably financial.  Give us a place where we can donate money.  Give your players the chance to keep this boat afloat.  Please.  You've got my money ten times over and I'll give more.  Just give us a way to keep it going.

I changed mine, at least until I think of something better, to my very angry In-the-middle-of-swearing-at-you Inquisitor.

I could add text: "Nice knowing you!"  *sigh*

The really sad thing is that I imagine EA runs tons of other forums for their games that have much smaller user-counts. And to add insult to injury, we have people like AutumnWitch who run their own forum, on their own dime  I just don't understand why they'd shut down the official forum for DA and Mass Effect, which is certainly successful enough, with a new installment around the corner.

Andromeda can go away. Well, for those who don't want it. Still not sure if I'll ever play it.

I'd bet you'll get it and every last bit of DLC and loads of microtransactions.

It would be nice if they could at least create an archive of these forums somewhere. Maybe put it in another subforum, or link to it on "The Keep" website. That way, even if they do insist on shutting down the boards, then all of the time and work that people put into creating builds, character sliders, or even just plain ol' discussion wouldn't just be lost.

I mean seriously.. if the forums need to be shut down because of cost, or because they need to redistribute resources then so be it (I'm not acknowledging the "devs don't use it" excuse because that one is, and I apologize for the language, complete bullshit), but don't throw away all of the effort the fans have put into making it what it is, a great place to go for information on everything Bioware. :/

I kind of suspected something was up when I logged in and my Moderator access had been removed.

Sorry to see it go away, I,m not one who cares much for social media like FB, Twitter, etc.

sorry to hear it Selene. i am forum user, i prefer to not use a social media for games. just for updates on stuff. they just should not be used.

here are alternatives that forum users can use. we could use the new forum for us bioware users
such as this:http://masseffect3.proboards.com/ which was created after the legacy BSN were being shut down.

http://biowarefans.boards.net/ also created after the Off Topic section was closed. it might also serve as home for us.

As one of the old timers in the forums, since the old BioBoards forum, I feel a bit disenfranchised over all, having been a community member since the time I started playing Baldur's Gate.

I have been a Community Member Moderator in the various BioWare forums  for 10 years, I started when the NWN 2 forums were moved from the Obsidian Forums to the BioBoards. We were a community of like-minded gamers devoted to the games we loved and the ability to interact with the Devs in the forums made it a wonderful place to be. It would have been nice to at least get a "Head's Up" that the forums would be closing...

However, I think things actually started to fall apart somewhat with the release of NWN 2 and there were folks who despised that game for their own reasons, much like the vitriol over the ME 3 endings in these forums.

In the end, though, perhaps is is time to let go of the things we once loved, though I don't think the 'social media' avenue is the best way to go because it feels like losing contact with the Dev's an becomes impersonal. But, maybe, I am just too set in my ways and wishing for the 'Old Days' where we could go and find information easily.

These boards should have been community run a long time ago. We can do better than this I'm sure of it. Halo has waypoint, the mass effect community is going to need an answer to it especially with multiplayer starting up again.

Imagine a bigger better BSN run by the community with more dedicated subsections and features we've never had before like class-builder tools for multiplayer, better social feature integration and chat and beyond. Anybody thinking of starting new forums share your thoughts here so we can get a list going all the would-be volunteer  admins/mods and developers who would all be going their separate all moving in the same direction and hopefully BSN can rise from the ashes bigger and better than before.

Nobody wants a post-BSN situation where we end up splitting the community far and wide across collection of tiny fractious rinky-dink fan forum backwaters. If the community pulls together and we get all of our would be mods/admins and developers working together and splitting the workload it would be the best outcome for the entire community.

that's Cassandra's thing here. she is actually doing that with every forum she makes. did you know that she has a game studio called Crossphase Studios, which will go to these "old days" era of making video games, interacting with the community, players etc etc on the forums someday. she hopes to make it happen after she graduates from her college. she has very big plans for future and great good things for us as well. right now, that company doesn't exist.. yet.

I hope she does and I wish her success with all my heart. I'm not giving up and perhaps I will look around for exciting places to be.

But I suspect Andromeda will be my last ride unless the game is particularly satisfying.

I still think it's bizarre that anyone thinks (or... claims to think) that the reason fans come here is to talk to the devs. Nobody comes here to talk to the devs.

That's not a slight against them, it's just reality. They moved on a long time ago and I'm fine with that, but why destroy our community space? This place was for the fans, it was driven by the fans, it only lasted so long because of the fans and now we're getting tossed to sea with no lifeboat?

I'm sorry to keep repeating the same thing over and over, but I don't get it. I have always had this company's back but now I feel like I've been thrown under the bus. Where are we supposed to have in-depth conversations about... fan things? Excitement? Lore? Like.. wh-?

We used to, back when there were devs to talk to.

The community has changed quite a bit since then if now it seems so unthinkable.
