I understand, and that is why i shouldn't spread doom and gloom. Dragon Age is my favourite gaming franchise ever, and i want it to continue.

Off-Topic - How far along are you on the ring quest? I got all 33 Tomes in 3 weeks on my Hunter, droprate is really high now.

I came back to WoW after a 1.5 year absence (I was heavily focused on Dragon Age for a long while) just the week before the pre-expansion patch dropped and was way behind on the chain. If I'm fortunate with drops, I'll just make it in the very last week. I'm going to finish the tablet thing later today and start in on the rest. Luckily, my shipyard is already level 3, with all epic ships, so I don't have to worry about that portion of it.

I think the worst part of all of this - out of MANY terrible facets of this decision - is that they're not even archiving the place. They're just... nuking it, so we can't go back and reminisce fondly or, you know, even something practical like provide a newbie with a convenient link to a bug fix.

It's even worse as far as fan resources go. Many of the source and reference links on the DA wiki point to forum posts. Now those will be completely invalid. There are things -- about the Qunari, for example -- that were clarified by the devs on these forums that will no longer have source attribution.

Maybe screenshots would help? I don't know if those are considered valid sources or not, since it's sort of secondhand.

Eugh. Do not want this purge.

That is what happens to studios under EA, unfornately.

Big corporates buying small one's never ends up well.

Except that the link has employees complaining about drama inside the company not the EA overlords making bad decisions.

And the flip side to the evil corporations ruining companies is that nobody remembers all the companies that simply continue to exist or takes all the independent studios that fail as evidence that independence is flawed.

What is so horrible about this site that it needs to be deleted???

I can think of a few posters...

especially when Dragon Age has an unresolved storyline.

My impression of DA so far has been that each game opens up more storylines than they satisfyingly conclude.

This:

There are others too. I try very hard to avoid doomsaying, but even I'll admit that this doesn't look good.

That is not good to hear.

Still seems bizarre that this would happen, considering how well DAI sold. (Or... seemed to sell. Not sure anymore.)

I'm still holding out hope.

I need to lurk to see if anything similar has been proposed, but I'm thinking of contacting the Organization for Transformative Works to see if the forum is the sort of thing that realistically be conserved.

I figure there's so much fan participation, as well as fics, artwork, etc, that it may qualify.

I'm not going to be able to come here even in the final month if the forum is going to be filled with stuff like that. I really don't want to think of my favorite gaming studio being dissolved, especially when Dragon Age has an unresolved storyline. I'm trying to be optimistic and think that some fans are blowing little clues out of proportion and such, but it's just starting to pile on in my mind. It's so f*cking depressing.

So much this. There's so much doom and gloom that there's little holding me here. A full month of mostly angry or grieving posts and searching for signs of BW's impending demise is too much for me to handle.

Counterpoint to big bad EA - BW was on its way to bankruptcy and would have ended like Pandemic. If not for the buyout, ME1 would have been the studio's last game (no DA at all). It would be awesome to have a wealthy independent BW, but that's simply unrealistic.

Also, the only sales numbers are on vgchartz, and as an example, Witcher 3, which sold nearly 10 million copies, shows 5.41m sold, and Inquisition - 4.76m. It's the lower threshold of what they could have sold, and it looks ok. And ME3 managed to earn $200m in just 2 months after launch. BW is doing fine. EA has no one else in the ARPG/RPG corner. Unless an official statement about BW being closed comes out, I'm not going to give into all of this doomsaying.

Welp, I just reached out to the OTW. It'll be interesting to see if it's anything other than vain or crazy.

Several great proto-communities (or already established communities) popping up, but I just wanted to drop this update by Fexelea about merging accounts/retaining post history for those that are interested.

Spoiler

I know the feeling. I hadn't been around much for a month. :(

As far as a new home goes, aside from our RDF, I'm just waiting for you guys to finish testing the waters. I like this group, and I like debating with you guys. I'll go where you guys decide to go. Our "house" is being burned to the ground, but this little corner of the BSN is our "home." So to speak. We'll find a new "house."

Yeah, I'm not hurrying to any of the forums sprouting up right now either.

I haven't joined all of them, but I'm making an effort to get familiar with the ones I really like and establish a presence there, so that when they finally pull the plug on the BSN it won't be such a rough adjustment. But I totally understand not wanting to sign up for a dozen different places while everyone's still in panic mode.

And the Romance Defense Force will always feel like the homiest home. <3

I found out that Jos joined Cyonan's forum to "listen." So that's a possiblity. Oh and Conal did the posters a nice favor and sticked a thread that has all of the new forums that have gone up in the wake of this cluster...er, this deletion.

I'm not surprised about Jos, he seemed like one of the few BW devs that enjoyed coming here.

You wouldn't know unless you frequented MP boards (familiar with Barrett from twitter threads). Good people though. They never stopped posting here.

I've talked to Jos, Bryan and Luke before. MP devs, if I recall correctly. They are good people, and I hope they stick around some of those new forums.

They're all devs, I think. Luke liked one of my posts once!! The only Bioware person ever to do so, I believe. I was pretty excited at the time, and uh... am still a bit Biofangirly over it. ^^;
