MESSAGE POPULAIRE !

Hello guys,

Most of you know I've working on a new forum for the past week, I'm happy to say everything is almost ready (not public yet) but I'm far enough along that I'm willing to share where I'm at right now:

  • The forum and its features/design are fully implemented and running locally
  • The forum has all the features you'd expect, if if exists here then it's included over there (quote, multi-quote, likes, warning system, polls, announcements.... etc)
  • An advanced tagging system for posts is included.
  • The forum has a fully featured notifications/subscriptions system.
  • Multi-factor authentication is included for extra security (via auth apps or email).
  • The design is responsive and works on all form factors from Laptops to tablets and mobile devices.
  • The forum is built only for discussion of Bioware games, no other games or companies.
  • Off-Topic is here to stay.
  • It'll be hosted on a cloud server, I promise it'll run as fast as the forums here and no ads will ever be included.

The final design in both dark and light themes is below:

themes.png

An example forum post (one of my threads here):

Here's a screenshot of the current site rules (I'm going to be hands off when it comes to moderating except for the first few weeks), moderators will be chosen from amongst yourselves and you'll have a say in it... and for those of you wondering, I used the forum rules here as a template, copied and pasted a few things and used some other site rules a guideline as well.

rules.png

Stuff yet to be done:

  • Creating the French section (nobody contributed a translation yet).
  • Uploading to the cloud server and stress testing for a few days.. I expect I'll launch on the week of the 15th of August.

One last thing to say: I'm quite aware of the alternatives and I respect and appreciate everyone's effort but the fact that half of them are hosted on free boards and the other half are actually home to other communities is what's keeping me from joining... ultimately I think only a couple of projects will keep going, whichever those are best of luck.

OP before modification.

I think so, we can even take all the great stuff.. the Spoliers/No-Spoilers forum categories, the character fan threads, the twitter threads and with the upside we'd have active community moderators unlike this forum for the past year or so.

We already have a few splinter communities that were created after the off-topic got shut down.

The only one I have a link for on hand is Top Shelf Gaming: http://topshelfgaming.boards.net/

For DA https://realdragonagefans.forums.net/ seems popular

At the moment I'm trying to find the best forum fit for my specific thread community. (RDF seems most likely for us at the time of writing)

I'd like to see a BSN II as a whole too though, I enjoy the wider BSN community as is also, and support/applaud any effort towards that.

That's good, maybe we can work off of that.. but obviously if we're gonna generate even half the traffic of the BSN we're gonna need to host our own, we can use the same code base and build off of there or even migrate, I was thinking Vanilla Forums, it's quite powerful and most of the features we like about the forums here are already implemented.

 haha!

By the looks of the thread about the closing, most people would join a new DA/Mass Effect forum. So i think making one that can handle that kind of pressure will be needed. And not even everyone is online yet, so it's bound to get worse ^-^;;

So you won't be coming along then?

For domain name, is unofficialbiowareforums.com available? Or unofficialBSN.com? And I volunteer as a moderator if needed.

As long as it's a healthy environment that's well-moderated and welcoming to all community members, I think this is the best possible option.

I'd be interested if it was a forum for true fans and not endless complainers who come here solely to take a dump on all things Bioware. It would also have to stick somewhat to BW's ethos of inclusion and diversity in gaming. You'd need moderators that were willing to uphold principles like this. If it's just going to be a loadof GGers whinging about how ugly all the women are and how all the gays are being shoved down their throats, then count me out.

You'll get people like that no matter what.

But i agree, upholding what's good about this forum is highly important.

But I don't want just a bunch of yes-men. There are fans who really love 2/3 of Bioware's games but really hate 1/3 (the most recent) ones and desperately want Bioware to turn back.

If it's just a bunch of doe-eyed fans asking "what negatives?" ... it's not helpful.

Wow this sucks. I've been on the BSN since 2009 (lurker) and 2011 (poster).  Hmm I'll probably just used reddit for my dragon age / mass effect stuff I guess. I'll checkout top shelf too.

Speaking for myself here, I would never think about making something that isn't inclusive... and of course with the help of everyone here it'll be properly moderated and have clear set rules about discussions and posts.

Many online communities don't have the toxic reputation of the Bioware Forums, however undeserving.

I think as of right now and after seeing your replies at the very least I'll be working on a local prototype, I'll have something to show you guys in a week or so.

I am a Graphic Design student going onto my BA course in September. I don't have the programs needed for design, on hand - too damn expensive - but I would be happy to lend a voice over any design or layout choices you or someone else comes up with. Those are basically what my whole course entails.

100% agree with this.

In my younger days, I was part of a few horror movie themed message boards, and the moderators constantly deleted posts and banned people who disagreed with the 'norm'. It was quite off-putting.

Whoever decides to take over will hopefully understand that the best moderator is a passive one.

Criticism is part of any community, not everyone is here for the same reason.. as long as it's civilized everyone is welcome.
