Well we don't have their actual code to work off of, but there's a ton of free forum code to use anyway.

If we're gonna actually do this thing, I can offer my expertise as a developer.

I hope somebody is taking up this offer.

As long as it is a place where we can speculate, wish, laugh and have a good time, I'm in. Sometimes arguing is fun too, as long as people keep it civil.

I just read about this in another forum. I just came back this week and this place is going bye bye. Adios BSN... It's been an experience.

here are alternatives that forum users can use. we could use the new forum for us bioware users
such as this:http://masseffect3.proboards.com/ which was created after the legacy BSN were being shut down.

http://biowarefans.boards.net/ also created after the Off Topic section was closed. it might also serve as home for us.

i have been forum designer, using the proboards service since 2008 to make forums like these. i quite do have skills to do that. it's been my primary source to make the forums. just love my MESN design and unofficial version of BSN.

Is biowarefans yours? If so if you could recreate the folder structure of the mass effect and dragon age sections on here and we could carry on business as usual then that looks like a winner to me. On top of that just needs a snappy redirect url to something like biowarefans.net to really seal the deal.

As a fellow forumite, I applaud the initiative and am looking forward to the inauguration of the new forum!

It's good that there are already available alternatives for when BSN is closed, such as Vroom and others, but it would be nice to gather somewhere where we'll see familiar faces again.

I would like to avoid using third party sites, they change their terms and screw people over.

I would like to offer to host the boards as I host the inquisition wiki.

I also have forums already running so I can modify them for this. We have a strong server that can handle tens of thousands of active users, which is something that should be considered before a

I can also give Rights to any dedicated person who wants to be more involved as fextralife is a collaborative site.

I just hope enough people end up relocating to the same forum instead of being scattered to the four winds. How do we decide which is best?

Blargh.

Is there some sort of sign up sheet that could be set up for those wanting to volunteer/help in anyway,

There will be scattering, the thing that was binding everyone where was it being the official site.

However, we can all at least provide options so we create good communities that are run properly by dedicated people.

I have begun rescuing some guides from the inquisition Forum, they will show up on the wiki or here
http://fextralife.co...-3-inquisition/

We are currently working on a modernisation and redesign of the looks, and with this I will create a mass effect forum as well. Our forum runs on phpbb which provides similar features to the one used here as well as group and moderating tools that will be useful for any fans who want to help.

We could try to wait one week or something and make a community poll (I don't think there's poll anymore in here but use a third party).

What forum people tends to prefer...already existing one or a new one.

The big problem will be getting people to move over to one large one and not scattering to a forum for like-minded souls.

Like if I made a forum that was exactly the same as this one, I still wouldn't get a lot of crossover simply because of how I have rubbed some groups the wrong way.

Yeah...but I guess we could try something like (please don't laugh) this part of the forum is "safe place" so here's your gushy threads about bunnies and elves frolicking and Cullen hair flowing in the wind.

And another part of the forum which would be "non safe" , now I don't mean abuse and the likes but you can criticize , debate etc and get annoyed with other people opinions.

It would require people to have a bit of discipline , I know it's a lot to ask but...

the problem is still finding the right person to be head and who to be moderators.  Going back to my example, were I to create my own forum there's no chance that large groups of elf, mage, or asari fans would come over to be part of a forum run by me.

It would be truly nice to have one place to try and evacuate most everyone over to and just have it be "The Unofficial BioWare Forums", so to speak.

Splintering off into various, disparate groups does nothing but dilute the community.

What I am proposing is a neutral option, I don't have particularly strong opinions on anything bioware related and I think I can demonstrate I've kept a decent community with dark souls. We have a fairness test that has worked for the past 7 years to keep friendly moderators and open policies.

I will start a thread asking for all volunteers to list themselves so we can have a concentrated part for all coding people to offer their help.

I would like to rescue content here as I've been here so many years it is breaking my heart to have it vanish.... I'll need help with that

I get what you mean. I don't mind groups like the RDF splitting off because, well... groups are already separate like that. But for the bulk of the forum, it'd be nice if we came to some kind of consensus. I've seen a few good suggestions.

It's difficult to find impartial people, though. I don't want to end up anywhere where there's a strong bias for or against fictional groups and have the mods demonstrate that bias. I'd just like a more or less civil forum where folks can have wildly divergent opinions about fictional crap and the mods don't tolerate abuse but also don't break out the banhammer on a whim?

What makes a good moderator is their ability to enforce the forum rules but to be smart & lenient enough to understand that tempers sometimes fray, and that opinions are like noses. Everyone's got one and they're not all the same.

Keeping it a level-playing field is not hard. A warning or two at first to notify the troublemakers they're on watch, and then temp ban if they keep going. They come back for more and make it worse for themselves = permanent ban and possible IP ban.

Being proactive, showing up a couple times a day for a few minutes and deleting spam threads before they escalate beyond page1 is not hard. This way the solid posting standards will be maintained and those moderators set an example for everyone else on what is tolerated and what isn't.

It's the internet , change your avatar and name , no one will know!

Seriously though , not everybody is going to follow , people are going to be lost in transit no matter what.

Hello everyone,

Sadly it was announced today that in August our beloved Bioware forums will be no more.

Now we can spend lots of time and effort trying to convince Bioware otherwise, efforts that might be wasted if and when they decide to go ahead with their decision anyway.

The alternative is we can actually start a 3rd party forum of our own and move over there, Reddit and other alternatives are good but they do not give a full forum experience.

What I can provide from my end is the hosting and technical work, a few Linode/Digital Ocean nodes for hosting and a couple of weeks to get everything up and running.

I'll need moderators and admins on the forum as well as any design/technical help.. maybe even with enough work we can make a bot to backup the threads here and archive them.

Haven't thought of a domain name yet but I have fairly concrete plan for the most important stuff (like community software and such).

I need your opinion guys if this is a good idea or not, I don't want to start working and wasting effort for nothing.. but I'd really hate to this community disperse like this.

Tell my what you think.

"If you build it, I will come."  :)

This sounds great!  I'll be watching this thread.
