This thread has been moved to a more appropriate location. As we want people to still be able to connect with one another and discuss future plans, this thread will remain open so long as it obeys the site rules.

"This thread has been moved to a location that no one ever goes"

I'm in. I know my post count on here is low but I've spent years lurking and I've been on forums since the 90's. I can do some graphics work or just mod if you need it. I know there are already some 3rd part boards set up after other forum sections closed down but I'd prefer a place with a clean start if I have to move from here, so if you're doing it then I'll come along and help.

I'm looking at vroom vroom, and realdragonagefans.net and they're not the BSN. :( They're just not. Vroom Vroom is about all kinds of games, mixed up in there, and then realdragonagefans.net doesn't have any criticism of DA:I.

*pounds table* Let "Totally not a poodle" design a TRUE BSN 2.0!

*Shakes cane and rambles in a series of beeps and car honks*

Best of luck to you :) You might let me know when you get a site up and running, so that I may send those that don't like VSN your way (and a few of the bans) :P

Yes, because we know that politics does a great job of uniting people and doesn't at all breed resentment. /s

No need for hostility.  I was merely offering up a suggestion, since so many were worried about a fractured community.  Not like I was suggesting to draw blood-oaths and hire bounty hunters to enforce the results.

> Its December. ME:A is coming in a few months and I'm excited.

> One night ME:A gets leaked. 4Chan gets wind of the ending and around 1000 users flood through various portals spoiling the ending for all the fanboys like me.

> Unfortunately, since there are only about 4 moderators on Reddit, and it has absolutely no oversight (unlike like the Bioware forum), and because its so easy to spam accounts for trolling in places like reddit, it is easy for anybody who is seeking some news on Mass Effect to have their game experience entirely ruined by spammed account.

> Result: The ending for ME:A is spoiled for tens of thousands of fans due to Bioware deciding it couldnt be bothered spending 2-5k per month managing a forum for a game that will make them hundreds of millions in profit.

This is why if you are a business selling a hundred million dollar game... you maintain ONE discussion place that is properly moderated. So that the advocates from your game can have a spoiler-free, curated, moderated zone to have discussion on your game.

Calling this decision being absolutely horrible now.

Also, I dont buy their statements about modern media for a second. Its one of two things:

1) Purely a cost-saving initiative. Why should we pay when free options are "just as good". Derp.

2) Some executive EA fat-cat decided to visit the official forum and was shocked by neckbeards having discussions about the size of character model boobs or some other Rule 34'esqe cringe. "Shut it down". This is some executive not understanding that this is how the internet works and these neckbeards have actually been their paying customers for the past 15 years.

I mean, the decision makes sense on almost no level.

"We are doing a bad job managing our community portal".... "so lets leave it in the hands of complete amateurs instead of a company trying to handle it professionally".

Cant see anything wrong with that at all *looks upwards at the example i started with*.

Come on chaps, lets show BW that we can do our own Forum with gambling machines and womens... perhaps, after that, we'll make our very own ME

People are worried about who would moderate a new forum. I agree, it won't be easy to find people who will do a stand up job right away, but I don't think it has to be the nightmare some think it will be (I know they're talking from experience)

Maybe we can discuss how to do it? Like...see if we can find a way to report when moderators are being too harsh or too lax?

Just make it look more like this site and less like a stock SMF forum made by a pack of wild six year olds high on HTML.

In case you missed the silver lining. Yes. Less like topshelf and vroom. They look like they were made by a pack of wild six year olds high on HTML.

Still better than realdragonagefans.

I would love a BSN Ii including a french section... sadly I have no time to help you as moderator but I'm sure some fans would take the job ! Thanks for working on a new forum anyway, we need our Skyhold just like the Inquisition after the attack on Haven :) .

Most message boards have pre-programed graphics, so setting up a new one shouldn't be difficult. The main issues are cost of hosting, the fact that everyone here will have to join the new forum, and the fact that we'll be starting over from scratch.

I am a graphic designer. If new graphics are needed for a new forum then I will lend my services to it. PM me if necessary. I'll be around for the end.

I think the administrators of each forum should engage in a series of duels. Last man standing takes all.

Don't fight over me, baka. You almost make me blush.

You know you want to join the admins who name themselves after the character your avatar is based on.

Thanks everyone for your enthusiasm, here's the rundown so far.

  • Some of you got in contact with me by direct messages about collaboration on other third party forums (some of those actually are home to other communities).. I'll be getting back to each and everyone of you about this.
  • Others expressed interest in helping out, I'll be posting a volunteer form tomorrow with positions that we need to fill.. needless to say any positions other than those which require technical and/or design expertise I will not be choosing myself but I'll put out for the community here to vote on.
  • I'm in the process of prototyping the design and the technical base... I'll have something preliminary to show you in a couple of days.

And one last thing, it's my personal opinion that if we want to keep the spirit of this community going, we won't do it on a 3rd party site that's not dedicated entirely to Bioware's games, otherwise our ME/DA forums are just a part of larger community and won't offer the same experience.

I notice that there are multiple alternatives floating around, you're welcome to participate in any or everyone of those, I'll be participating in some myself.. whatever we as a community decide to do in the end, let's make sure we do it knowing that we had the best run ever here on the BSN and Bioware Forums.
