It looks beautiful!! Great work, ViSeiRa! I'll definitely join once it's up and running (I also share the same concerns as you) :)

I now packed the link to this thread in my sig. I need to start posting some more :D

That does look great, and I do see the point about free forums or multipurpose forums.

One thing though... And this is an issue with most other alternatives I've seen too... (I only mention it because it's often one of the first things I look for) No Legacy forums for older Bioware games?

Guys, the OP has been updated with the latest info on my project.. all feedback is appreciated, I'm almost done and soon I'll be looking for a couple of super moderators for launch, individual forum moderators will be chosen after launch if my plans don't change.

The Refuge looks really cool - I think I'll join once it's going. Just hope I remember how to find it before these forums close! O.O

Looks cool, I give it a shot once it's up and running. I've got experience being a mod and admin at different sites.

That's not an issue at all, it'll take me a couple of minutes to get those up and running later today.. consider it done!

Thank you! :D I know I sound like a broken record, but things often end up in a loop where there's uncertainty if there are enough people to post in legacy forums, but people who want the legacy forums won't join a board that doesn't have them.

Anyway, the only other thing I thought of, is what with the multiple languages and off-topic being right at the bottom it requires a bit of scrolling. So will all the sections be collapsible like the current ones are? (to make things easier for those who only want to view a certain section or language)

How's the BBCode compatibility with BSN? All of the other alternatives have some kind of issue with copy/pasting (or importing) BBCode for quotes, inline images, and emoticons. Some even have issues with spoilers and lists.

If you plan to scrape HTML and convert to BBCode, that won't be an issue. But if you get a direct data dump, it will be.

I made a BSN BBCode sampler for manual copy/paste testing. Utility will vary based on how much you use BBCode directly and how much cross-posting you do before BSN goes readonly.

https://forum.biowar...bbcode-sampler/

Just reply as a quote to the OP to get the raw BBCode. Remove the outermost quote markup and copy/paste.

That will be implemented as well, not sure if before launch or not but it's on the backlog.

This is a direct copy/paste of the BB code

So basically some of the bb codes do not work directly but that's very easy to rectify with custom bb codes which I can add myself.

Easily rectified:

Super & Sub scripts

types faces (support already there BTW but not for multiple typefaces)

lists (supported but no closing tag)

images (have their own tag)

twitter (can easily add)

hr

might need some work:

the quote tag -> Most likely I'll need to assign some php callback to properly do it

@ViSeiRa

Suggestion: ask Lady Artifice if she'll add a placeholder slot in her Networking post (https://forum.biowar...between-forums/) for your site. Otherwise, folks that only look at that thread won't know about your site.

I'd be interested if it was a forum for true fans and not endless complainers who come here solely to take a dump on all things Bioware. It would also have to stick somewhat to BW's ethos of inclusion and diversity in gaming. You'd need moderators that were willing to uphold principles like this. If it's just going to be a loadof GGers whinging about how ugly all the women are and how all the gays are being shoved down their throats, then count me out.

What if I told you: Many of the "complainers" were true fans.

Until the inevitable betrayal...

Many but not all.

There were also and always be trolls, haters, and jerks looking to cause trouble.

Also when a fan spends 3+ years bitching about an ending to a game that fan needs to find another hobby and/or needs to get a life.

When the ending of a game is so bad it takes three years to ****** about it, you need to get a new ending and/or stop buying that company's games.

Thing is, if too many people do the latter...

Anyway this project shows great promise. Worth keeping an eye on.

I know I should wait until the beta is available to actually try it out and review myself, but in the interest time is of the essence, what would you (ViSeiRa) describe as the distinguishing features of your board? I don't just mean technical features, though include those as well. I mean stuff like funding for the long term? Disaster recovery? Moderation policy?

I'm also trying to figure out a neutral, objective way to get that info from all the contenders.

The Refuge, along with Fextra, seem like the best bets for a full replacement. You're taking your time and being thorough. I appreciate it being strictly for Bioware games, too. Plus, it looks great and it isn't on a "freeboard"....The latter being the most important thing to me. That should be what matters to most people, imo, even though there was a panic/rush to hurry to what sites were established quickest, let's hope "slow and steady" wins the race. :P

I kinda hope that the freeboards are temporary solutions and everyone finds a home there in the end, even if it's not their main site and they just drop in occasionally. Mods are the next hurdle. And I hope the ones chosen are fair and levelheaded for The Refuge. But you already seem to know all about that!

So, I wish you the best! I'm excited for this.

Crap. Or as Varric would say, Well, Sh*t.

Okay, I talked myself out of creating this discussion topic twice, since it is high risk of misunderstanding and drama, but the fact of the matter is, I want to hear both sides. I personally don't understand the difference between a Proboard, something like Fextralife (ad-supported broad-based board?) and whatever one would call the Refuge (homebrew board?) From the point of view of risk/reward for users. So, f--k it, I'm going to take the chance.

Topic here: https://forum.biowar...r-alternatives/

I hope you will explain your comment there, and anyone else who has made similar comments about freeboards being bad.
