I get what you mean. I don't mind groups like the RDF splitting off because, well... groups are already separate like that. But for the bulk of the forum, it'd be nice if we came to some kind of consensus. I've seen a few good suggestions.

It's difficult to find impartial people, though. I don't want to end up anywhere where there's a strong bias for or against fictional groups and have the mods demonstrate that bias. I'd just like a more or less civil forum where folks can have wildly divergent opinions about fictional crap and the mods don't tolerate abuse but also don't break out the banhammer on a whim?

So not a "elves rules!" or "elves die!" type of forum I take it? :D

What makes a good moderator is their ability to enforce the forum rules but to be smart & lenient enough to understand that tempers sometimes fray, and that opinions are like noses. Everyone's got one and they're not all the same.

Keeping it a level-playing field is not hard. A warning or two at first to notify the troublemakers they're on watch, and then temp ban if they keep going. They come back for more and make it worse for themselves = permanent ban and possible IP ban.

A good mod also has to be evenhanded, applying the same rules to the people within their own clique as they would to every other random forumite. Every splinter group I've seen has been an unequivocal failure in this regard.

That's because they never had me there to hand their candy bum to them when the occasion called for it.

I will definitely consider buying Bio games only at a significant discount.

They have nothing else to offer.

I buy them at discount prices anyway. Here in Australia everything is overcharged. A new game easily goes for 100+ bucks. I bought ME3 for 20 bucks on Ebay where Origin here was charging $109.99 US dollars.

I'll definitely have to keep checking back to see where most people go, while perhaps joining some other sites too. Un-social me is gonna have to try harder now... or else I'll just have to keep all my fan-lusting to myself.  I'm kinda beginning to wish I never joined here in the first place.  :?

As much as I don't want everything to fall apart... it won't be the same. Perhaps once things settle a bit more and other sites begin to get some more traffic we'll see where more people are going? Or if we can at least get decent cross-site action if we do get mostly separated?

Yeah, I made a similar post in the large Forum Shutdown thread, and yeah, would definitely like to see something like this happen. (And can also help offer advice on the technical side if needed).

One point I think I would like to suggest however, is that if an alternative BSN forum is created, we shouldn't just go with the free or cheapest software just because that's the easiest way to set something up.

I was thinking I could look into a solution like XenForo, that I'm fairly certain has all the nice bells and whistles that BSN has like avatars, PMs, groups, likes, alerts, etc. Their licenses aren't too costly and I imagine setting it up isn't that different from installing any other forum software out there.

Someone should post a poll regarding forum location options... we all vote, and like a political primary election, agree to support the winner.

Thank you for doing this.

Yes, because we know that politics does a great job of uniting people and doesn't at all breed resentment. /s

I think the administrators of each forum should engage in a series of duels. Last man standing takes all.

NeoGAF doesn't allow anybody but socialites inside.

I expect I'll test that theory.
