I'm looking at vroom vroom, and realdragonagefans.net and they're not the BSN. 
They're just not. Vroom Vroom is about all kinds of games, mixed up in there, and then realdragonagefans.net doesn't have any criticism of DA:I.

Who said anything at letting only yes men be apart of it? Part of what Bioware say they care about it "individuality" and "freedom of expression".
I don't like everything they do, so i don't see why anyone else should.
That's good, maybe we can work off of that.. but obviously if we're gonna generate even half the traffic of the BSN we're gonna need to host our own, we can use the same code base and build off of there or even migrate, I was thinking Vanilla Forums, it's quite powerful and most of the features we like about the forums here are already implemented.
Well we don't have their actual code to work off of, but there's a ton of free forum code to use anyway.
If we're gonna actually do this thing, I can offer my expertise as a developer.

Solas and indeed any and all ME/DA characters have been pretty much complete non-issues thus far since the forum was originally created just as a substitute for Off-topic once they closed it here, and as such the vast, vast majority of the threads at least up until now have been non-Bioware related, let alone going into specific characters.
Speaking for myself here, I would never think about making something that isn't inclusive... and of course with the help of everyone here it'll be properly moderated and have clear set rules about discussions and posts.
Many online communities don't have the toxic reputation of the Bioware Forums, however undeserving.
I think as of right now and after seeing your replies at the very least I'll be working on a local prototype, I'll have something to show you guys in a week or so.

That sounds promising. An inclusive forum that doesn't tolerate sexism, racism, homophobia and the like sounds ideal.
I'm pretty sure any forum we make is going to want to have civil conversations, so yeah.
Of course, I believe there are possible ways to have conversations about whether Bioware is pushing a social agenda too hard by having x amount of gay characters, and some will still call it "homophobia" anyway, so YMMV. I think it most important a new forum foster civil discourse. So, even when you disagree with someone or think they are being homophobic, etc, you can actually engage with them without devolving into stupid. If it devolves into stupid, that's what mods are for.

I honestly do not think these forums were ever truly "toxic". I think there were a few rude people, some who phrased things wrong and a couple of "do what i want"ers. But mostly i have found the people here to be amazing, and the discussions have always been enlightening.
That's what i want if and when we make a new forum.
But there is a huge difference between "i think they're trying to hard to add in homosexual characters"/"the homosexual characters are very cliched" and "Dorian is a **** character because he's gay!!"
Is it bad i've always wanted to try being a moderator? Since my night is America's day, i'm usually awake and free when the forums are really active.

Not the regulars. Of course people come in and out and in passing express the opinion they'll never buy a game again. What is this, a tightly controlled regime? Such an opinion is legitimate. It is a contribution. Yelp reviews say "I'll never come to this restaurant again." People should be allowed to say that. And most importantly, I don't think that's the majority of the content on these forums.
Well, I do have a job (for now) and i have no experience as a moderator, but I am willing to give it a try if there is a need for it.
(But it look like there is enough people already)
Personally I find GameFAQs and NeoGAF to be a much more diverse source of discussion. There's none of the crybaby threads about romance demands or "anti-SJW" posts.

NeoGAF doesn't allow anybody but socialites inside.
I think the "i think it would be nice if" threads are just as important as the "these need improving" and "what's your favourite kind of tea?" threads.
And a game that has romance in it will gain demands. Like the "let us get married and have a kid" thing being thrown about. A lovely idea for a fanfic, but unsuitable for a game like DA. Even still, some quality ideas and improvements are made in such idle threads.

But there is no such thing as what is solicited and what is not. The people enjoying the restaurant aren't any more welcome or solicited than the people who don't. Also, the people enjoying the restaurant defend the restaurant, triggering a reaction.
A troll is not sincere. A troll plays games from the meta level, bypassing direct confrontation. Someone who sincerely disagrees is directly confronting and challenging opposing viewpoints.

The real problem are not the people who give a valid opinion one way or another. "I am so dissatisfied with your product i have no intention of buying it again" is actually very strong criticism. And very powerful when backed up with exactly why. "X was a let down for me", when X may have been the bees knees to another person. That is really the feedback.
The "problem" people are those who pretty much say "bioware is a poopy face".
Well we don't have their actual code to work off of, but there's a ton of free forum code to use anyway.
If we're gonna actually do this thing, I can offer my expertise as a developer.
I'm not nearly as active as I used to be, but I'm sad to see BSN go. I support this idea.
