NeoGAF doesn't allow anybody but socialites inside.

That's not true, I'm a member of NeoGAF, but I don't post much.  I guess I'll have to start posting more and arguing with imbeciles who still, after they've had it explained to them two billion times, want a remaster.

Great.

Could be a possibility, I'm willing to help set it up

What's the opinion on this?

FINALLY IT LET ME COMMENT!

That's a really good find! I think it could be possible to do this. Or the attempt will be really fun!

This is all great in theory, and perhaps I'm jaded from seeing things like this fail before, but it seems more likely that this community is going to fracture when they have to start relying on third party forums. Segments of the population here are all going to have their own opinions on the best fan-run forums and stick to their favorites. Forming consensus on this will be next to impossible.

Not to say some forums wont get decent member counts, but nothing will ever truly replicate what we had here.

All true. Yet it is, at the very least, worth a try

This thread has been moved to a more appropriate location. As we want people to still be able to connect with one another and discuss future plans, this thread will remain open so long as it obeys the site rules.

I can say from personal experience that this has happened with offshoots of the off-topic lobby. It's unfortunate, but hard to avoid.

here are alternatives that forum users can use. we could use the new forum for us bioware users
such as this:http://masseffect3.proboards.com/ which was created after the legacy BSN were being shut down.

http://biowarefans.boards.net/ also created after the Off Topic section was closed. it might also serve as home for us.

i have been forum designer, using the proboards service since 2008 to make forums like these. i quite do have skills to do that. it's been my primary source to make the forums. just love my MESN design and unofficial version of BSN.

Lurking on the BSN has actually been an unspeakably huge part of my life this entire year. I think the shock hasn't really turned to grief yet and one day....perhaps a few weeks from now....I'll just be sitting around and I'll abruptly begin to cry at random.

Shady moderation due to cronyism will always lead to the downfall of such splinter forums and communities. Even a splinter forum created with the intention of avoiding such things.

But I don't want just a bunch of yes-men. There are fans who really love 2/3 of Bioware's games but really hate 1/3 (the most recent) ones and desperately want Bioware to turn back.

If it's just a bunch of doe-eyed fans asking "what negatives?" ... it's not helpful.

I think it's possible to have a positive, constructive, respectful environment that includes people who complain about things. Not liking something is fine; being a jerk is not.

Proboards! I was trying to remember them. That was/is the system the old Avatar the Last Airbender forums "DistanHorizons" was on. Was hugely active in its day. That's a good forum toolset.

It's ironic, but forums might be one of the few things that actually benefit from cold detached corporate oversight. Ordinary people running the show will inevitably, and despite the best of intentions, let them fall to ruin. When it is someone's job to keep things moderated and running smooth they're much more reliable.

Yeah, as great as it seems at the time, moderating a forum with a bunch of your best friends and staying impartial don't go hand in hand. I know from experience. It inevitably leads to lax moderation when your friends are breaking the site rules and usually ends up devolving to clique warfare. That in turn leads to people leaving the forums and it becoming something of a stagnant circlejerk. It really is an unfortunate reality.

Yeah well I don't remember a load of jerks here. Heated debates, even angry namecalling but really just classic nerdrage duels, which I secretly enjoy.

I'll be clinging to the coattails of people who are smarter and more adept at this than me. I just want somewhere that's even a fraction of what the BSN has been, warts and all. :(

Me too...

This all has me realizing just how much of a rock the BSN has been in my life, in its peculiar way, these past seven years I've been following Bioware. None of my irl friends or family share my passion for their games or gaming in general and it's been my most consistent avenue for associating with people who share my interests.

If I can hold onto at least a piece of that...

I suppose the success of a user-run forum depends on what you expect to get out of it. Of course you're not going to recreate a corporate forum with hypothetically impartial control (Though it's never really impartial, is it? Unless you consider these botmods the ideal moderation model) and membership driven by new fans discovering your games. If you just want to preserve the social connections you had previously made before being forced off the premises of said corporate forum, then it can work quite well.

I never posted here before but I used to come here every day to check for any news or entertain myself with some interesting topics that often are posted here. I'm sad that bioware decided to close this place so I just tried to create a forum to see if it was possible to do something "similar" and that's what I come up with   http://bioware2.crea...m.com/index.php .

I didn't do much cause I don't want to own a forum or anything like that. I don't want to be a moderator neither. All I want is a place like this one. I know it will never be the same but it's still better than nothing. If someone is interested I can give him/her the forum I created.

If you prefer create a new one this is the site I used    http://www.createaforum.com/

It would be nice if all the community could move together in the same forum.

It might be a good idea that WE (the fans) create our official forum where some candidates will apply for either admin or moderator and WE "the fans" will vote for who we want as admin and moderator. I don't know if it's a good idea or not.

The guys over at the RPG Codex would be happy to take in some refugees I heard. Though you guys should be able to out-troll them if you want to survive there :D

OT: A full-blown forum dedicated to ME would be a good idea, I guess. I'm not big on Reddit anyway.

Not only that, but these places often don't offer anything that can't be better found somewhere else.

I want to know where everybody goes. I lurk more than post but the forum really added to my game playing. It's like the game world was bigger because we could talk and laugh about it.
