[Copied from the Bioware forums announcement]

After great consideration, we are closing down the BioWare forums, effective August 26, 2016. The Star Wars: The Old Republic forums will continue to operate; however, our public boards for Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and legacy BioWare titles will no longer be available.

This wasn’t an easy decision.

Our players are important to us. Your feedback, stories, and love for our games drive and inspire us.

In the past, our forums were the only way we could speak to you directly. They allowed our developers to talk with fans, and gave our players the opportunity to talk with each other about our games. But with the rise of social media and geek culture, there have never been more ways for us to connect.

Now we can travel around the world, meeting with you face-to-face at events like PAX, SDCC, and even shows in our own backyard. We can share stories with you on the go, giving you a look behind the scenes on sites like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.

In turn, you’ve built your own fantastic communities in places like Tumblr and Reddit. You’ve created comprehensive Wikis and countless pieces of fantastic art, fiction, and cosplay.

With so many great things so widely available, our developers today find themselves spending more time on other sites, and less time in our own forums. And to our fans and players who came to those boards looking to talk to us, it was a great disservice.

So it is with a heavy heart that we will close our public forums on August 26, 2016. We will maintain some private boards, and may use these in future for beta feedback or other special projects.

Because we know there is a lot of information on there you may want to keep, the public boards will remain in a read-only state until October 25, 2016. After that date, they will be taken down.

While we are saying goodbye to this venue, we remain committed to our community and will always be here to listen, share, and support you. Online and in person, we will continue to seek out opportunities to interact and share in our combined love of games.

I'm not sure if there is any way for someone to suck the NWN2 topics out and make them accessible elsewhere, but otherwise I think it is going to be very hard for NWN2 modding to continue.  This is sad.

Certainly makes the investment we've made in the new vault look prescient.

I still haven't played everything we have stored there.

I guess I will start up nwn2mac.freeforums.org and nwn2mod.freeforums.org.

Better make your vault accounts now. And someone should post about it in vault forums so they can get to work on scraping the forums.

Not needed, vault 2.0 is community owned and the server fees are already paid for several years :)

Well this sucks. I suppose it was inevitable.

Yes, it'd be good if we could somehow get an archive copy.

I've posted it to neverwintervault.org.

And now there will be one less.  What nonsense.

Forums are the place where the playerbase can talk to each other. Social media... not so much.

As I mentioned elsewhere, don't forget about the dedicated NWN1 and NWN2 forums on the Nexus, complete with specific subforums similar to what we had here (General discussion, tech support, mod talk, mod tech support, and mod requests), running IP Board with all its usual amenities, like proper message quoting and colour-coded scripting formats.

That makes my head spin..

'We will increase our disservice those who come to us looking to talk about our games.'

With each of these transitions we lose both critical content and community members.

At this point I think what might be best would be to capture as much content as possible, format it into a searchable document and upload it to Google. If there was a script that could walk the site and compile the content that would be great, but I lack the skills to write such a thing.

We scraped all the content from old vault. Since I saw henesua post in the nwn1 version of this thread I'd guess something like that is already being worked on.

Yes it seems like a reasonable site, but the traffic is virtually nil.

I know.  I suggest people change that.

It's a little unsettling that they don't acknowledge that the forums are mostly (i.e. 99% of the time) used to communicate between players.

I guess I'll take a plane and travel to some convention in the other corner of the world next time I need advice for a sorcerer spell list.

DarkOne has definitely been our ally, but I prefer going to a site the community actually owns. The vault has the advantage of having the old vault's content as well as written permission from old vault to have it. Nexus doesnt have that (though I've posted all my content on it), making the Nexus unable to replace the Vault due to lack of posting permission for old content.

I do occaisionally get PMd questions about my content over there, and I make a point to answer them.

I'm talking about the forum.  The forum is better on the Nexus.  Someone else had suggested the Beamdog forums of all places, a very new place compared to the Nexus, and they don't have the NWN1&2 dedicated subforums like the Nexus does.  I don't see people pooh-poohing that suggestion.

I'd be even less likely to go there, since Beamdog has zero to do with nwn. Nexus at least gives us file hosting. I'd rather not be dependent on an outside entity, which the Nexus is (even if they are one that is friendly to us).

I believe you need to be a contributing member to use the Nexus messaging service.

I don't consider an independent site dedicated to modding to be an outsider, and I trust it to be around longer, personally.  But I really don't see why I need to defend a perfectly good option.  I've explained to everyone why I consider it the better option, without even touching on the annoyances of using the other forum.  You can use it or not, and it's fine by me.  For people who are open to it, it's there.

I believe you need to be a contributing member to use the Nexus messaging service.

That is not true.  PMs work the same there as on any other forum.

I think we are better off on the new vault. The cost of keeping it up is notional if there are enough of us. It is then entirely within our hands to shape the place we are in and to continue or not as we move forward. We are a small group with little clout when things go wrong like this. We should forge our own way and advertise our presence to bring people in. I'm not saying the Nexus will change but, until this morning, I though we were solid in this home.

There are a lot of dedicated NWN players on the vault, once there is some action there perhaps we can grow this community again.

Also I think we should discuss this with the NWN1 team. We need to be in the same place.

I think both neverwinter.org and the Nexus are reasonable. All things considered, everyone gravitating to one site hasn't worked out well for this community, repeatedly.

This wasn’t an easy decision.

what? no cover story about a security breach before taking down the forums? ea, i am dissapoint!

it was just a matter of time before they decided to close the "toxic cesspit of angry fans flinging **** at each other and their masters".

btw was there ever an initiative to create a nwn1/2 toolset wiki?
