I think both neverwinter.org and the Nexus are reasonable. All things considered, everyone gravitating to one site hasn't worked out well for this community, repeatedly.

Regards

From a general perspective I agree. A wider net will catch more fish and all that.

For cc, modding and development, I think a single spot will be better.

That is not true.  PMs work the same there as on any other forum.

Ah, okay. It must have just been something messed up with my account settings then.

Yes, I'd be fine with using both sites. Compared to the Bioware forums, neither has been particularly active (with NWN2 discussions) to this point. I guess people may tend to gravitate to one or the other going forward. The Vault has more sub-categories and stickies.

Sad news. And a funny story. Five days ago I told a friend of mine about when my campaign gets released and that I would like to make another one after that. He expressed his worries and opinion that the game is already dying and by the time I finish a second campaign there might not be anyone around but the very few. Prolific words? Who knows. I like to think that what we have here is not all. I hope not. I like to think that there are people who browse the nexus and vault for new stuff who don't even come to this forum.

Anyway, I am also good on using both vault and nexus. I guess it's up to us to make nexus an alive forum. Is there a way to request some more subforums? CC and module specific come to mind.

There are still people playing much older games. I doubt that NWN2 will completely die off any time soon.

Can you explain why?  Kaldor offered a very good reason why not -- that being the history of NWN-related sites.  Massive losses of useful knowledge at the original Bioware forum, then the IGN Vault (all comments except 1 page), then this forum.  The original Bioware forum can't even be accessed through the Wayback Machine anymore, due to some kind of redirect Bioware has in place, unless there's some trick I don't know of.  I could offer a few more, if I weren't trying my best to remain positive.

For modding and development, I would like a forum where I can quote people like this, and where I can post code without losing its formatting, and preferably with colour coding (these things are present on the Nexus).

Anyway, I am also good on using both vault and nexus. I guess it's up to us to make nexus an alive forum. Is there a way to request some more subforums? CC and module specific come to mind.

There's a subforum for making requests for the site, or they can be PMed to Dark0ne.  There are already 3 module-specific subforums for each game, though -- Mod Talk (general), Mod Troubleshooting, and Mod Requests.

The Nexus has been there for me through five eras of my modding life, where I focused heavily on specific games for long periods of time, and released major mods for them.  Oblivion, Fallout 3, Morrowind, Dragon Age: Origins, and finally Neverwinter Nights 2.  I joined in 2008 during my Oblivion period, but it was around for much longer before then.  I have never felt like a second class citizen there for which game I prefer, unlike certain other sites.  It has been a rock of stability, a beacon of welcome for modders, and my home.

Nexus automatically produces a thread for each content submission, so there are module threads. I don't know if those get tied into a module forum per se. Download numbers for my Crimmor campaign look to be about equal between Vault 2.0 and Nexus.

I don't think it's what you meant, but on the subject of subforums for individual modules on the Nexus, in addition to the autogenerated single thread for feedback on a module (the "Posts" tab on the project page, which links to a forum thread), you can generate an entire subforum for each of your modules by activating the option in any of your project pages themselves.  They appear in the "Forums" tab of the project page, and also link to forum threads.  As the modder, you have moderation control over your own subforums, including making stickies or removing posts.  I have one on my campaign, and I know the BGR team has one on theirs (with 79 topics).

Just tell me where we're all going...

Ugh, hate it when people shut down forums.

That is awesome. If one has a module product released though. I always found the thread I have here as a form of advertisement (so to say) for my campaign, as a way for me to read back and see how I did something or where I was a year ago and ask for help related to my campaign (like skill checks for example). I which subforum would one create a developing thread on the nexus? On the vault there is the NWN2 modules. On nexus, would that be Mod Talk (general)?

It would be the NWN2 Mod Talk.

My reason is exactly that. When we place our future in the hands of others we are their whim when they decide we do not fit their needs. That should not happen to Vault 2 as we own it as a community. Functionality can be added to the vault forum I guess but I am not skilled in such matters and will leave it to my betters to comment on that.

In the end I don't have a strong need to use the either forum, I only feel that we should stick to one place and all meet there. We are too few to be fractured. It matters less with module discussion perhaps, but I feel that we are better in one place for discussing technical topics?

Getting moved on every few years is not healthy for our small community. Where ever we go next, it should be to a place we believe gives us the best long term prospects.

Just considering some more. Perhaps an active forum in a less secluded part of the internet (i.e. the vault) would be better for us?

I'm on the fence so hard I have a splinter in me bottom :)

I agree with PJ somewhat, though not just regarding modding. I like it when games have one site of reference where I can find everything I need, without having to search or ask all around the Internet in order to find different pieces of information.

I'm not suggesting not to use more than one site (and uploading mods on several of them is definitely a good idea), but personally, I'd like a "main" NWN2 forum that doesn't split what already is a small community.

I believe that to be the Nexus.  But the more important point is that wanting to have all your eggs in one basket has been repeatedly ruinous.  And the "we all need to be in one place" mentality is one of the main things that caused such stress and fractured the community between NWN1 and NWN2, and then again over Dragon Age (Yes, I'm saying that the attempt to make everyone stick together is partially responsible for driving people apart).  Everyone will not be in one place, if that place is solely the Vault.

I'm trying to get the various stickified topics from here copied over to the new Vault, so at least those will be available. Baaleos has also attempted a content scrape.

And I'm working on mirroring my development diary to the thread that I never finished on the Nexus.  I'll do the same with my other major content threads.

Most of the stickies here that I have looked at, have links to the old vault and are useless.

Yes, the old Vault links are (mostly) useless but (probably) not the information. Somebody can regenerate the information later with updated links. The old Vault links still have the identifier information, which was included when restoring content on the new Vault.

This I agree. Been hard enough to find a somewhat active forum for NWN 2 today. Nexus is even less active. And NWNVault, unless I'm mistaken, wasn't it closed times ago ?

Took considerable while for me to even find this forum. Fileplanet is dead. Gamebanshee is dead. Sorcerer place is dead. Not sure where else to go :(

The Neverwinter Vault Forums are very much alive. :wizard:

I noticed too that it was not just me and you posting there but some other people asking for help with stuff lately. Later this week I will also create a thread about my campaign on the Nexus and UBSN (Can someone say if they have subforums?) and I have to say... it looks promising now. We'll continue on more places and keep our community.

I'm not bothering with the unofficial bsn.
