BW is there to make money. They don't care about a community. Currently this community is producing red numbers on their balance sheet. That's a real problem for them. So the forums must go. It's a simple business decision to make their stockholders happy.

How much money could it possibly cost to keep some forums open for their nerdy fanbase?
And on that note, is there ANY major game developer who doesn't keep an open forum for their fans? I'm genuinely curious and not being sarcastic for once.

Even indie developers have their own forums, Bioware are just sick of the awful reputation these forums have and are too lazy to do anything about it besides nuking it from orbit.

Servers, bandwidth and negative publicity all are part of those red numbers.
Other companies have better moderation policies, don't tolerate trolling, offer tech support, etc. That produces a happy community which promotes their products. See the difference?

There is nothing cynical about it. That is literally what they have done by shutting this forum down.

Every developer I can think of has their own forums.
To a major company, this shouldn't be that big of an expense.

I just thought of a brilliant business model. This is ground breaking stuff here, really:
Don't want negative publicity??
Step one: Don't do stupid ****.
Step two: Dont ignore your fans.
Step three: ???????
Step four: PROFIT!

Oh I agree no doubt about it. They're Betraying us. But it's not like any of us work for Bio and have a say about the forums. There is nothing cynical about it. That is literally what they have done by shutting this forum down.

Creating products that don't cause negative publicity may help too. Just a thought. ![]()

That's impossible. To make something perfect and impeccable cannot be done when it comes to games. Someone may hate something that someone else likes. Flaws will always happen because we are humans.Creating products that don't require negative publicity may help too. Just a thought.

That said, art isn't entirely subjective. There are certain things that are objectively bad.
If bioware does something objectively bad, they should be called out on it.
And they were.
They just didn't handle the criticism super well.

Well, some things should never have happened in the first place. Like waves of foes jumping from thin air in DA2 or rushing an ending of the ME trilogy.

Without a effective means of giving feedback, criticism, concern etc. its going to be hard for players to have confidence in their products. By closing down their own forums Bioware is not only making themselves look bad but their also going to make even harder to sell their products. In order to sell a product one must respond to criticism and apply feedback to their products and without that criticism and feedback people are only going to be skeptical of their product.

True although when you create something as hated as the Mass Effect 3 endings, you probably misunderstood what your fanbase wanted somewhere along the way.

I agree with you. I mean, I know we've had our disagreements in the past during all those times when I was right, but I like you man.
