Thanks for putting so much effort into this project. Having zero technical expertise myself, I can't imagine how monumental this is. At any rate, I appreciate that you are taking your time to set up the forums. I have a good feeling about the longevity of what you are setting up.  :D

And, Kaidan Fan, look forward to seeing your thread. Might have to give the ME trilogy a run through just for the Kaidan feels.

You will not regret it.  It's probably my favorite BioWare romance!  I started the threads over there but I haven't been back to add to them yet.  My daughter just got home from band camp and my other daughter is returning from Kentucky tomorrow so I will be on for short bursts of time.  I will try to get more up over the next week. If that's okay with fexelea!

Oh, I romanced him. I picked up ME1 several years after it came out. I think I wandered into one of your threads gushing about Kaidan and you replied, lol! Good times!

How do you want bug reports?

When I go here: http://fextralife.co...y-amp-gameplay/

I get this error:

string(0) ""

Using latest Chrome on Windows.

Mhm the forum itself has a bug report/site discussion subforum, is that the only forum you are getting trouble with? It may be me setting the permissions wrong because I've been up until 3AM+ everyday xD. PM me the details of the error I'll look into it now before I sleep :)

Where's the best place on fextralife to discuss wiki structuring questions?

I created a new top-level page for Builds and linked it from here:

http://dragonage3.wi... & Walkthroughs

I can't remove the space in front of "Builds" for some reason. Is there a code/markup mode to the editor?

Also, is the TOC menu on the left editable? I noticed that the sub-menus under Guides & Walkthrus don't match the links on the page itself. If we want "Guides" and "Builds" on the sub-menu under Guides & Walkthrus, how to do that?

I won't ask any more questions here, since these are all fextralife nuts & bolts questions. Just tell me the best place to ask there and I will. On the Wiki discussion page? In a forum for wiki Q&A? Someplace else? Thanks!

EDIT: Nevermind, I think I figured it out. On here?

You can create a thread on site discussion or in general discussion of the specific wiki. Everything within the wiki is editable, but some things require permissions, I can give you those if you need to make the changes if I can make them for you!

I'll figure out the page you linked in my morning if that's ok I'm falling asleep

Looking forward to improving the inquisition wiki!

Certainly going to save everything possible - I'm talking to a few community members who are enterprising enough to have started scraping projects as well, and we're all brainstorming the best solution. I should be able to have a proper recovery tool by tomorrow.

Do not worry, worse comes to worse I will copy those threads manually, they've saved me many times over the years!

And yes we'll surely be needing moderators if many members decide to move in - please stay in touch! :)

If you have the memory space, it'd be great to save everything. If not, the important thing will be to prioritize the important threads. Of course, the issue there is that everyone has a different priority on what they think is important.

There's too much decoration and stuff going on on your forum. I think it should be more 'minimal', less crowded.

I think the characters threads are very important for all the interesting discussions that are in there but obviously there are gonna be people who think that it is better to save the threads related to mod for example. But in the end I think we all agree that it's importat to save the bugs threads.

If everything can be saved fantastic! And if not well... we can always remake those threads.

I'm actually in the middle of a redesign, which is due by late August. I wasn't expecting this to happen here so now doing both import and revamp work at once XD

I think the ideal solution would be to have BioWare transfer ownership of the forums over to a new party. This would be done with a simple name change for the domain, and a few trusted members of the BSN as admins.

You're missing a tiny little something  here - player accounts (Origin\EA, old BSN not sure about how it works for the consoles).

BW is not going to give those out and it would be unreasonable to expect them to.

As is - forum accounts are directly tied to the rest of the BW\EA-gaming stuff. E.g. those icons under my AV? I've never 'registered' any owned games here, but it DOES 'know' what I have on my Origin, freebie JE included, and I log with the same acc into DA:Keep. They just can't pass it to the 3rd party.

Indeed I do not expect that player account details could be transferred. However it could be possible to facilitate an opt-in to a new home.

I am still working on scraping with the hopes of salvaging the posting history of those who wish for it.

Either way, I wanted to post this here too:

For those interested in design, I am working on a redesign for our boards in general - this forum closure just happened in the middle of it.

As a sneak peak of the simplified design, this is what the forum would look like later

(Early stages - the contrast is off and such because I'm working on stuff still.)

Our Wikis have a theme switcher, and I'll add one to forums too in the future - just can't right now because revamp + migration + cross-commenting needs to happen first xD

@Fexelea

You probably already know  that, but NwN people are already packing their stuff up with some custom tool (heading to the Vault if I get it right), you should probably contact them (that's if you hadn't yet).

However it could be possible to facilitate an opt-in to a new home.

I'm carefully optimistic on this one, but their official assistance with this exodus would be very appreciated indeed.

I think Solas from the Solas Thread has contacted Conal (community manager) so they can help with archiving the forum.

He said he was going to look into it.

So perhaps someone should see what's going to happen (or not happen ) with that.

I've been in touch with NWN subforum - and yes I heard they are thinking of the vault. I'm hoping we can assist each other for scraping purposes if needed :)

I have also contacted the Bioware team regarding assitance for archiving and they said they would get back to me... so waiting and looking into options in the meantime.

I imagine if it is opt-in, there should be no reason for worries as people could simply chose to recreate their account at a mirror/destination board and claim their posts. I'm trying to figure out a good system so users may claim their account and retrieve their history manually via me if necessary - if the forum import I'm working on is successful

I'd just like to request that we be selective in choosing moderators and, at the very least, look into the posting history of anyone that volunteers. I've seen too many forums go on a first come first serve basis and it didn't turn out too well. Maybe set up a few people to vet volunteer mods? Long-term members would be ideal for this as they know the history of the forum and its posters.

Thank you for the reminder @maia0407

Since we have an active forum already, we have a moderator approval process that includes a series of questions, scenarios and such - and I would of course want to prioritize active and prominent users here such as those who have kept long-standing threads.

I'm very open to feedback with everything just trying to find a way to salvage our work from all these years and give people a chance to keep in touch in a similar fashion as now. :)

I want to thank you for taking the time to do this. There have been a number of alternatives to BSN put forth, but this one so far is my favorite.

Hiya..

I swear your DA:I wiki  was used a LOT by me when it came out :) Love your site!

Fex, if you have time to answer a question - are you planning on adding a section for the legacy games (JE, BG, KOTOR etc). Pretty sure there is good info in each section here covering how to get the games working on newer systems. Plus the tips and hints.. Would be a shame to lose the info to the nothing.

-Ianthia the forum lurker

(sorry if that was already asked I am a little overloaded reading all the "save the community" threads... yours is the one that stands out for me!)

Happy the inquisition wiki helped! I've recently revamped if and added an optional white theme and faster loading speeds :)

Ideally I want to save everything, although I am trying to figure out how I'll fit the 7million posts in mass effect 3 anywhere XD

But yes I'll create subforums for the legacy games and hopefully archives for them too if my scraper works. I just made the bigger categories as a proof of concept so people could get an idea of how it would look.

Thank you for the encouragement!
