Dear followers,

I have decided to close down church. It's a place where you guys can worship me, but lately I've been spending more time checking out stuff out on YouTube and Instagram than listening to you people sing. So no more church, make me funny stuff on social media, or show some sexy pics, you know stuff I like. Some Bible cosplay, I dig that.

Bye.

God

There's actually a user named God on here, and I'm not joking, it's bloody hilarious because I'm friends with em too, lol.

Yup. Thanks to this forum's off-topic section, I can truthfully say that I've gotten into political debates with God.

I was going to change my user ID to "Jehovah" but I've used all my changes in a 90 day period or some such.

Hopefully CD Projekt Red makes a good game with Cyberpunk then if that's the case.

I think the biggest issue with the BSN, from EA/BW's perspective, is the combination of this place skewing increasingly negative while being branded. As much as it's not a good look to close your forums, it's probably way worse to have your logo all over a place where a huge percentage of the content is anti-you.

That being said, there would have never been a good time for them to shut this place down. No matter when this happened, there would always be conspiracy theories about what they're trying to hide and/or who they're trying to silence. Last summer it would have been them doing DAI damage control, and any time this year it would be about MEA-shame.

I don't know if anyone from BioWare will see this, but I would like to tell them I'm grateful for the wonderful stories they created and hopefully still create.

The ways you can be you, and also be someone else, the different playstyles you could try, the character interactions, the lore, the companions.

The fondness for black armor with a red-n-white stripe... XD

Overall, thank you BioWare, for believing in your fans enough to make these amazing things.

Now lets gather our party so we can venture forth!

I don't think this has anything to do with Andromeda.

If you read between the lines of the corporate-speak press release, this forum is no longer needed because Twitter and Facebook. Of course they put a positive "there are so many amazing ways to interact with fans now" spin on Bioware's preference for other social media sites, but this forum was killed because those other sites cost Bioware nothing to operate and reach more people.

I don't doubt that criticism of Bioware and EA on the forums also played into it. Twitter and Facebook includes a lot of people who aren't hardcore fans of the ME or DA series, so there is a more positive atmosphere on both. People are less likely to criticize when they aren't that invested in the games' stories, and Twitter's format doesn't really allow for meaningful feedback.

I suspect it is going to be more Action based than RPG.

The RPG fans that Bioware has built over the past two decades are no longer relevant to EA's plans for them.

That started LONG before MEA...

Well, I'm on the fence with MEA now since they have such little faith in it that it will likely burn this forum down to the ground.

I'll wait till the reviews on MEA, then based on them I'll wait till a sale or get it sooner... or later....or never.

Oh please. Get off your sanctimonious high horse. Just because they are shutting down the forums does NOT mean squat.   You are delusional

Jesus, here we go again...

Every rational thinking person knows exactly, that closing the forums is not a decision from BioWare, but from EA. Think about it.
They (BioWare/EA) can talk about Mass Effect on twitter, reddit or whatever media platform, where people are more likely to get a grab of this new game called "Mass Effect".
If they'd spread news here... the only people that would get the news, are the ones, that are already informed about Mass Effect -> no new customers.

This platform is excusively for people to talk about the games themselves, which you can do on other media platforms as well and get new people into the boat.

And that they don't care about this forum, is not known since yesterday.

They could have closed the forums in 2012, 2013, 2014 - it doesn't matter. The only thing that strikes me is this "religious like" bullcrap, that people are interpreting into this forum apocalypse. Do you really have to look so desperately into this, that you assume everything and the world is going down the toilet now? Do you seriously believe Andromeda is gonna suck, because they decided to bury something, that has been dead, since it was born?

People, pull up your pants and stop pooping yourselves, breath some fresh air, sit down and enjoy our neighbour galaxy when the time comes...

If you interpret everything into Andromeda failing to deliver, just don't get that game at all, you set your mind to failure and that is a sign of obsession, not a loving and caring one, but a really sick and unhealthy one.

I don't buy into the EA Overlord theories when it comes to this. BioWare has been managing these forums for a long time - but the devs have been reluctant to visit in the past couple of years, to put it mildly. Their very conspicuous absence from these boards have nothing to do with EA.

BW hasn't figured out how to manage a community in ages, and so they are opting for an ivory tower approach. Twitter, FB, Reddit et al. are news bites sites. The huge majority of posts vanish as quickly as they appear. And that's how BW seems to prefer "interacting" with their players. No mega-threads that stay alive for months, less criticism or organized feedback, and first and foremost: no proper community to speak of as those sites don't allow for players to band together easily.

BW has one of the most vibrant, diverse and committed community in games. This was to their credit, even if it was hard on them sometimes. Shame they couldn't figure out how to deal with it.

If this was EA's decision, why do other EA owned studios still have their forums going? The Battlefield franchise still has forums, so why would EA let them keep theirs but shut down BioWare's?

Or maybe it was EA and they're just preparing for a complete shutdown. After all they nixed Maxis while they were still making a profit but had lost fans due to SimCity and PR related blunders.

'In order to communicate more with fans and engage in discussion, we're closing down our forum that's dedicated to communicating with fans and engaging in discussion.'

You know something is off when Starbrat logic gets involved. Not to mention this seems timed to happen just as they start rolling out actual info for ME:A.

None of this sits right.

Agreed. And to ad to that, didn't this very forum got a complete overhaul not that long ago, to improve it's features and to make it easier to keep communicating with each other?

I don't know for sure off course, but with a bunch of prominent people leaving BioWare in the past, it gives me the feeling 'they' are cleaning house/burning ships of some sort to a new 'style' of company.

Or there has been a pissing contest in the boardrooms and the bad guy (for us) won ;)

Not sure if i'm glad with any of the options, and i'm certainly not happy to see these fora go. It's been more informative and trustworthy than any other side for me. I'm not naive, it's just that fans tend to be honest when they write about 'their' game ;)
