What's the reasoning for the closing of the forums?

Just look at this thread for an example, almost nothing but negativity and shot taken at Bioware and the vast majority of threads are full of this.

Yes criticism is fine but right now there is nothing available to criticize so it's merely negativity for the sake of being negative.  Plus no matter what they do to appease people the trollers just come up and **** all over them for things not even related to what is actually going on.

Hell people were whining and hating on Bioware claiming they released too much information before Inquisition was released and said they don't listen to the fans so they decide to keep quiet for Andromeda until they are closer to the release date and people whine and hate on them for listening to the fan complaints.

They probably just looked at the forums and said "why the hell are we keeping the cesspool open?"

This forum is not all just negativity though. Yes there is negativity, but there is a hell of a lot more.

Most notably it's the place where players connect with each other so they can play together or share information about the games.

Right, but four years after the release of ME3, and people are still screaming about it?  That's not just negative.  That's a grudge or worse, pure blinding vitriol.

That is correct. ME3 ending will be hated for all eternity.

I hear you all...incredibly frustrated.  They continually make the exact wrong decisions despite me really wanting Bioware to flourish.  And now I find out Ash aka Lady Insanity will no longer do Bioware content...who has long been a favorite of mine for news and lore on DA and ME games.  She says it's more for personal reasons, and maybe that's the full truth, but I cannot help but wonder at the timing.  Dark days my friends.

Correlation doesn't mean causation. She's made a video and explained what was the real reason behind her decisions (copyright strikes, full time job, IRL stuff, pigeonholed into making news videos instead of videos on, say, lore or speculations).

Also, she said that she won't be doing Bioware NEWS (she won't be making videos, but she'll still maintain Shaperate) - but that she'll still keep doing lets plays, trailer breakdowns and so on, because this is what she enjoys to do.

So please... don't spread misinformation.

Yes, there's nothing unhealthy and obsessive about that at all.

Ok, but that still doesn't change the fact that the forum is so much more than just people being negative or making constructive criticisms.

If this was EA's decision, why do other EA owned studios still have their forums going? The Battlefield franchise still has forums, so why would EA let them keep theirs but shut down BioWare's?

Or maybe it was EA and they're just preparing for a complete shutdown. After all they nixed Maxis while they were still making a profit but had lost fans due to SimCity and PR related blunders.

SWTOR's forum isn't going anywhere either. So not only does the BSN's demise appear to be Bioware's decision, rather than something mandated by EA, but it appears to be decision made specifically by the Edmonton studio. SWTOR and its forums are run by Austin.

If you're not mad and the heat of your hatred does not fuel the universe long after entropy should have settled in something is wrong with you my friend. Embrace your hatred!!!

Good point. Isn't it also Austin that makes ME:A?

Well yeah, that is obsessive. Of course.

Fact remains that they lied. They hyped the ending and this is the price they paid.

I've personally never been really mad though. Despite the lies. It's more like I have little confidence in where they're going from here. There's been nothing to convince me that it's going to be really good. The whole thong thing just reeks of a cop-out.

No, I honestly don't feel that's the case.  I honestly just think that a developer pops his head in every once in a while and goes, "Huh, they're still arguing about the ending.  Oh well," and leaves.

Finally they just got sick of it.  The way that they've gotten sick of every other game that they've put out has gotten hate.  DA2?  Don't like the reused environments.  K, we, as BioWare, get it.  ME1?  Don't like the inventory system.  ME2?  Don't like the heavily character based direction of the game, sacrificing a narrative in motion (meaning that it goes somewhere, does something, goes somewhere else, etc etc).  I won't even touch ME3, because we all know what a hot button issue that is.

They get it.  They've heard it all before.  But now, finally, they're sick of it.

If I could could make a meme, it would be of Chris Priestly, "Rehashed dungeons?  You don't like them, we get it." At one of the cons.

Didn't know that. How hard would it be to hand over the ME and DA forums to Austin and let them run them?

Montréal also made ME3 multiplayer and a bunch of sidemissions for ME2.

I also read somewhere that Austin made the Descent DLC of Dragon Age Inquisition.

Yeah I have to agree with this...it is a tad obsessive at this point.

And before anyone says anything, it's ok to criticize the ending, but the way folks go about it as if their first born has been murdered by BioWare is what I am referring to.

Problem solving 101 -

Ignore problem.

When it becomes impossible to ignore, deny problem.

When denial no longer works, go back to ignore.

When both quit working, shut down what's telling you that you have a problem.

No problem
