If this was EA's decision, why do other EA owned studios still have their forums going? The Battlefield franchise still has forums, so why would EA let them keep theirs but shut down BioWare's?

Or maybe it was EA and they're just preparing for a complete shutdown. After all they nixed Maxis while they were still making a profit but had lost fans due to SimCity and PR related blunders.

Since the Spore forms are still around, it doesn't seem likely.

Thank you, I got confused. Austin makes SWTOR. Montréal made Omega and now MEA, I think.

It does make me wonder what exactly is going on in Edmonton these days.

Nothing inspires fans to buy the new game like closing down their community. Where they like to talk about said game before it's even been released.

I really... just don't know anymore... I was eager to play, and now?

What am I supposed to think about any and all of this now?

Seriously.
This just makes people more hesitant about the game. Really have no clue what the higher ups are doing right now, but shutting down the place your community gathers is a stupid move.

Jesus, here we go again...

Every rational thinking person knows exactly, that closing the forums is not a decision from BioWare, but from EA. Think about it.
They (BioWare/EA) can talk about Mass Effect on twitter, reddit or whatever media platform, where people are more likely to get a grab of this new game called "Mass Effect".
If they'd spread news here... the only people that would get the news, are the ones, that are already informed about Mass Effect -> no new customers.

This platform is excusively for people to talk about the games themselves, which you can do on other media platforms as well and get new people into the boat.

And that they don't care about this forum, is not known since yesterday.

They could have closed the forums in 2012, 2013, 2014 - it doesn't matter. The only thing that strikes me is this "religious like" bullcrap, that people are interpreting into this forum apocalypse. Do you really have to look so desperately into this, that you assume everything and the world is going down the toilet now? Do you seriously believe Andromeda is gonna suck, because they decided to bury something, that has been dead, since it was born?

People, pull up your pants and stop pooping yourselves, breath some fresh air, sit down and enjoy our neighbour galaxy when the time comes...

                                                                    tumblr_inline_mkca7pDygC1qz4rgp.gif

If you interpret everything into Andromeda failing to deliver, just don't get that game at all, you set your mind to failure and that is a sign of obsession, not a loving and caring one, but a really sick and unhealthy one.

I agree. It is entertaining to see the know it alls rise from the pit though.

There has not been any valid criticism here for quite awhile.

They are not going to listen to a bunch of whiny self entitled spoiled brats who demand to be catered to and have the arrogance to assume they are speaking for the entire audience.

I don't think this has anything to do with Andromeda.

If you read between the lines of the corporate-speak press release, this forum is no longer needed because Twitter and Facebook. Of course they put a positive "there are so many amazing ways to interact with fans now" spin on Bioware's preference for other social media sites, but this forum was killed because those other sites cost Bioware nothing to operate and reach more people.

I don't doubt that criticism of Bioware and EA on the forums also played into it. Twitter and Facebook includes a lot of people who aren't hardcore fans of the ME or DA series, so there is a more positive atmosphere on both. People are less likely to criticize when they aren't that invested in the games' stories, and Twitter's format doesn't really allow for meaningful feedback.

I agree.

So in order not to be a "spoiled selfish overly entitled baby" you need to declare in front of the BSN that, actually, the ME3 ending was great?

Just checking.

I dislike the ME3 ending, and I may mention it if it is related to the topic of the discussion, but it's not like I get up every morning and think about the list of

people that I need to inform about it. It's just another fact.

Or is this one of those "because it's 2016" things?

Alright, I'll assume you're just ignorant and don't pay attention to anything

-Mexicans are rapists

-All Muslims are terrorists

-"Look at my African-American over there! Look at him!"

-"I think women working is dangerous to society."

-"When I come home and my dinner isn't ready I go through the roof."

No, I'm not ignorant, I used to be. Trust me, I keep up with politics FAR more than you. I used to think like this, I know where you're coming from. Trump could use a bit more tact, that's for sure, but try reading past the headlines and not taking in biased propaganda from either side.

"Mexican's are rapists" isn't the quote. the quote is “When Mexico (meaning the Mexican Government) sends its people, they’re not sending their best. They’re not sending you (pointing to the audience). They’re not sending you (pointing again). They’re sending people that have lots of problems, and they’re bringing those problems to us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people!"

If you have a brain you can tell he's talking about iilegal immigrants, drug smuggleres etc.  Not 2nd generation immigrants etc. Illegal immigration is a problem, it's not racist to say that.

"All Muslims are terrorists". Literally never said this, you must be thinking of a YouTube comment, or twisting words to push your agenda. Just a clear sign of losing the debate when you have to make stuff up. I'm not getting into the 'religion of peace' but all he proposed was a temporary ban on Muslim immigration. The entire time he's talked about terrorism he's not talking about cultural muslims, or moderates or reformers, he's talking about radical muslims. You know, like ISIS? Last time I checked they're not very nice. I'm sorry was that racist even though a religion can't be a race?

"I think women working is dangerous to society." I can't find this quote anywhere, link or didn't happen.

Can I still get banned with only a month to go on these forums? We'll see folks!

Well, I'm on the fence with MEA now since they have such little faith in it that it will likely burn this forum down to the ground.

I'll wait till the reviews on MEA, then based on them I'll wait till a sale or get it sooner... or later....or never.

That's not how s*** works, dude. Get a life.

Right. But it's a little weird for them to have no announced products.

OTOh, if they were going to blow up this board anyway, I guess it wouldn't have made much sense to do announcements.

It might have to do with Andromeda. It might not. Tough to say. This forum has been on borrowed time for a while now. Not even the most customer friendly of companies will long maintain a forum that contributes nothing constructive and serves only to drive customers and potential customers away.

I think the plan is to only announce one game at a time.  Now it's MEA's turn.

Last time they announce DAI early because of speculation that Bioware was about to fold when the Doctors left.

It does make me wonder what exactly is going on in Edmonton these days.

A major economic recession most likely.  If it's not affecting Bioware directly, it's almost certainly affecting their families and some of their friends  it's affected about everyone in Alberta in some way as far as I can see.  Stress levels are generally high.

Combine that with Flynn letting it slip about therapy at EA Play and that the reaction to the EA Play trailer at BSN was less than positive due to, of all things, Asari eyebrows.  So, more stress is perceived by Bioware employees and management starts to view the BSN as more of a cost and liability (as well as a festering wound) instead of seeing through all of that to focus on the benefits.  Next budget meeting, BSN becomes an expendable at a point in time when they are probably looking for various ways to cut costs - as are all the businesses are here - and they probably weren't interested in spending more to improve forum administration and moderation.  I think it's likely that it was Bioware management who made the call to pull the pin on the BSN rather than EA, although it's possible EA might make such a call for their own motives... which may include shutting down Bioware (it wouldn't be the first time).

Dumb move?... Yes, I think so.  Hopefully, there may be some intention to create a new forum for ME:A closer to release, since, so far, they haven't said they are shutting down accounts... we'll just have to wait to see what happens.  I really don't think it has too much to do with the actually quality of ME:A.  Hopefully, they'll still have enough gas in the tank to release a good game.

No, I honestly don't feel that's the case.  I honestly just think that a developer pops his head in every once in a while and goes, "Huh, they're still arguing about the ending.  Oh well," and leaves.

That's precisely part of the problem. On the surface, in certain areas, this place can look unpleasant. But if anyone looks more into the forum they'll see where fans are actually talking with each other, sharing more than spite. Many people here, including myself, still love these games and talk about that in many forms and topics -- these are the people who are being "punished" by this.

And it sucks.

Seriously.
This just makes people more hesitant about the game. Really have no clue what the higher ups are doing right now, but shutting down the place your community gathers is a stupid move.

More than anything I just feel less enthusiastic. I still want to play it, but it's a little tainted now because this place will be gone. -_-

Eh, the eyebrows thing is just one detail.  The meat of the problem is Bioware really didn't tell us much about MEA.  Nothing about the story, the characters, the locations.  Heck the biggest reveal of E3 was learning the protagonist's freaking NAME!

Talk about a let down.
