Biowar will shutdown but we still have CDPR and a possible Witcher 4 after cyberpunk.

Exactly.  It should not effect it in any way shape or form and its a little bit silly to presume otherwise.  Yes for the fans the forums look important.  Yes, it is a bad idea to close them down.  but from BioWare's perspective (and more importantly EAs) it looks like a non-essentially resource waste.

As has been pointed out far more concerning is the people who are leaving

I'm also one of the ones who think BioWare might be shutting down after the newest Mass Effect.

How come? Bio hasn't had an SP game that failed since Jade Empire. (DA2 made its money even if it burned some brand equity In the process.)

Really, we shouldn't read anything into the closure of the forum except that Bioware doesn't put much value in the forum.

It really doesn't reflect much about the company as a whole especially given how little interaction the devs have offered, to them it probably seems inconsequential.  As much as that annoys us, I don't think it indicates much if anything about the status of the company or any specific project.

this is a fair point. I've read several comments from devs about how tiring they found the forums. (My only relatable experience was running a guild on WoW - like managing kids in a kindergarten!) So i guess we should just sit back and have faith.  Patrick Weekes is still in post as Dragon Age franchise lead writer on his LinkedIn.

Fingers crossed.

The down side is the lack of skilled writers is hurting BW. In DA:O and DA:I there is several story line errors(WTH,WTF moments)  and in DA:O there is two contradictions and recently I notice one in DA:I..

I was all aquiver about DA:4 but,if it contains similar WTH moments then maybe its better left in the envelope.

As far as forums those are usually the first things to go when a company starts downsizing in order to cut expenses..

Maybe BW can sell their DA franchise to Square Enix ..

I hope there is a DA4. And I only found these forums recently, like a month or two and now they're going. Seems a shame, but if it takes time and money away from creating the games, I'd rather they spent time and money on the games.

CDPR said that Witcher3 was the last one, they closed that franchise with an awesome game.

Dragon Age: Inquisition was a critical success and as far as we can tell it made money. Why would they not make another one?

Did they released numbers of sales? No
So why you apply this degree of certainty in your statements?

as I mentioned earlier, I don't think this bodes well for whats coming, not that I really care.  It's my guess that if there is a DA4, it will be console only.  DA:I did well in for certain communities, but not so well for others.  The most complaints and problems came from the PC community and rightly so.  It looked like it was a last minute decision to port over to pc and it was done poorly.

For me, DAI was the worst of the 3.  I would take DA2 over DAI.  The only thing good I can say about DAI was the open world was done well, but that is it.

Because EA attested in its earnings call that it was one of their best performing games of the period alongside their major sports franchises, with the most successful launch of any Bioware game before it. Legally, they can't lie to shareholders like that, so it's unlikely that Dragon Age Inquisition was a financial failure.

Heimdall,If BW ran with DA like Square Enix did with their Final Fantasy  we would have seen more DA games by now. IMHO BW had a gold mine and didn't capitalize on it. DA:I became the GOTY and BW decided not to follow up.

I watched that video..That explains the WTH moments in DA:O and DA:I.. Lack of skill.

They did capitalize on it, that's what all the DLC to Trespasser was, that's what the team did after DAI was released. When they were done with that, it takes awhile to write and build a whole new game.

As for Final Fantasy, Square takes half a decade or more between main installments sometimes, they just compensate by churning out an endless supply of spinoff products with multiple teams and slapping the Final Fantasy label on it. Bioware and Square are so different that comparison isn't worth much.

What Heimdall said. They told people that it was BioWare's most successful launch in a forum where they're not allowed to lie.

That's not to say they won't try to put a positive spin on the truth, but statements like "best launch" and "beat expectations" are pretty black and white.

Heimdall,BW didn't run with it like most companies would have..If they ran with it we would be playing DA4 by November instead of cue the sound of crickets chirping and not even a hint of DA4.

More the pity.DA could have been a strong competitor of Final Fantasy.

...You know it takes years to make a game right?  And Bioware was spending their resources on DLC until last september?  What you're suggesting is that they should have been able to develop a full fledged sequel in under a year.  Even DA2, a widely acknowledged rush job, took 18 months if I recall.

No company runs like that, not unless they have multiple teams working simultaneously on the next project, and only much larger studios than Bioware run like that.

Also, western RPGs like Bioware's and JRPGs like Final Fantasy aren't really in direct competition with one another, they're substantially different genres.

It's not looking good for anything right now.  When you have your senior devs leaving and now shutting down your public forums, it doesn't give people a warm fuzzy.  At this point, Bioware could sink into the abyss and I could care less.

Frankly, if Bioware itself is on the verge of collapse/sabotage-by-EA, I suspect that we'll soon see "rumors" (read: "someone at Bioware blew the whistle but we're not going divulge our source") on some gaming sites with large readership.

Pre-emptively throwing away at least 25% of your sales -- sales which are individually much more profitable to EA since most of them are Origin direct downloads -- would be an idiotic response to that.

This doesn't really makes Darrah a liar, nor implies that we won't have a DA4, for the contrary, it says we could be sure DA4 is a fact, what we should be concerned about now, is that it could be a total crap, a company losing members doesn't mean will be dissolved, just look at Bungie (You're not so big without Halo, are you?) so, we shouldn't worry about the existence of future titles but their quality instead.
