I couldn't find a reference on BSN earlier than that one.

Good times indeed. I feel bad for anyone that wasn't around back then. They never really got to experience the glory of this place.

Anybody want to do a rough cost benefit analysis as to how much money EA will lose from butthurt BSN fanboys not buying MEA on release? I mean, it doesn't have to be realistic or anything. I mean, I assume most of us are talking crap but will secretly buy it anyway (I'll wait for the Game of the Year or Trilogy edition myself).

This reminds me of the time Donald P. Geronimo of the "Don & Mike" radio show (it's a northern Virginia things) became extremely butthurt because Warner Brothers cast Val Kilmer instead of Michael Keaton in Batman Forever. He called up WB live on the air and informed them that they were losing out on THREE HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS because he had seen the original Batman 15 times in the theater and refused to see Batman Forever.

Ok..,,,,,,,it costs 60 bucks a game...you just managed to pizz off not only your hardcore fans of 1 of your major name brand games......but you also managed to pizz off hardcore fans of other brand name games that you make by kicking them out of a community most of them have loved for years and years... So... hmmm...  I need to get into my Gordan Gekko state of mind for these numbers...I am guessing... this is my "least" guest-timate...  you will lose at least 40% of your total sales..this includes DLC.....not to mention, the damage ..that the word of mouth campaign will play against the company for turning their backs on their most dedicated fans.

It would take an awfully large dent in sales to convince The Temple of Elemental EA that enraging their hardcore fans actually costs them cold, hard cash. But perhaps a few carefully worded letters (snail mail) to the executive leadership of the company might at least put this on their radar and get their attention if the game underperforms. The suits don't care about what a few m*ds and departmental managers think about rebellious fanboys and fangirls, but they do care about the value of the company's shares.... and one of their flagship titles selling poorly would not be good for them.

Edit= Removed a certain four letter word beginning with M so I don't get yet another thread deleted

Cyonan, without your brilliant work on the game mechanics (and others of similar talent and mind-set), ME3MP would've been a bust for me after a few months.  You did amazing work and I'm so grateful you shared it here.  I fear greatly for ME:A given this decision by BioWare.

I'd still have come here and posted because I met a lot of great people. They can't take that away from me even if they close this place down.

I'd still get ME:A if the game is good enough to warrant the price tag, but there wont be an official community for me to do my datamining and mechanics testing which is the most disappointing thing for me because I enjoyed how in depth this community really got with that sort of thing.

I'm not even sure I would get the same leniency that I did with ME3 MP. I did a number of things that were against the rules to get a lot of that in-game mechanics data, like using memory hacking software and modding game files.

You're clearly wrong. Customer retention is an outdated concept. The social media is the new thing that'll bring in the bucks. Who needs word of mouth when you can run sophisticated ad crawlers to do the job? Just look at Pokemon Go and you'll realize people will buy anything if it's capable of producing coloured images and funny noises.

I will agree with you on almost everything that is  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^    ...but if the most hardcore, dedicated fans that got kicked in the face by the company  ( Us ) and the dragon age people who already felt cheated by an inferior product... took to social media to tell how we have been treated by the company... who knows.....at least a 40% decrease in sales does seem possible.

In other words, it's easier for a company to import a new fan base than it is for a fan base to find a new company.

Actually Jeff Smisek, the old CEO of United Airlines did this back in 2009 or so by yanking the benefits of their elite frequent flyers and selling them to regular fliers on the same day. The elite flyers went berserk, but CEO Jeff Smisek apparently thought he could just create a new, less-entitled elite tier and save the company money despite his previously loyal customers abandoning the airline in vast numbers. I'm not sure if it worked, but I avoid his airline like the plague these days. Smisek finally got fired last year, but that was because he was a crook, not because he relieved himself all over his most loyal customers and employees.

Ok..... so...   when can you and I watch the bloomberg network together?   I have also developed quite the obsession with the financial market and stock market over the past 3 years. Perhaps we could compare some notes sometime my friend.

I'm not a huge gamer. Story games of the sort produced by Bioware have represented most of my section of the market. My progressive disappointment with Bioware and other gamers has kind of put me off of gaming in general.

So, Bioware and BSN have driven me out of the entire market, not just their corner of it. Im not sure I'll be buying games, period. There's too much to do.

Yeah, I know how you feel Tant. I'm from the older generation of gamers, back when developer's made a huge effort to make their games the best they could be and the technology used was bleeding edge. Nowadays, developers (or more likely, their publishers) have caught on that they don't have to do any of that and can still attract an idiot fanbase. I think that's what Bioware is after. They don't want to satisfy us with a great story and an awesome multiplayer, they want to bring a new crowd in that has little to no expectation, so that they can sell just as much with little effort in making the game actually decent...

It's not just Bioware that does this either. This is a plague that has swept the gaming industry, thanks in no small part to the likes of EA and Activision. Mediocrity sells now and if you can get away with it, that is always your aim now. This "make more by doing less" attitude has pretty much ruined a good majority of games...

You Sir/Madam have taken the words right out of my mouth. This is exactly how I feel about games now.
