This was a topic in the Lore forums, but I think too few people go there to take full advantage of the discussion. But an interesting hypothetical occurred to me and I wanted to open up a discussion on a hypothetical war between the Salarians and the Turians.

The rules:

Both forces at max power

Treaty of Farixen in effect, 5 Turian dreadnoughts per 3 Salarian dreadnoughts

Turians have all the known Turians in the game for example Garrus, Saren, Victus, and Nihlus

Salarians have all the known Salarians in the game for example Kirrahe, Mordin, Jondum Bau, and Tazzik

Salarians have STG

Turians have Blackwatch

Tech Advantages:

Salarians have cloaked dreadnoughts

Salarians use Venom Shotgun

Salarians use Scorpion Pistols

Turians use Phaeston Assault Rifle

All other weapons are standard issue (Avenger for example)

Allies:

Turians have 100% Volus support, including Volus dreadnought and money

Salarians have experimental Yahg and Varren

NO OTHER RACES INTERVENE OR PLAY A ROLE

My Interpretation

Week 1:

Salarians will strike hard and strike first with cloaked dreadnoughts and commit their whole fleet. Jondom Bau led Salarian STG operatives will simultaneously detonate traps and instigate chemical warfare throughout the Turian planets; and maybe even sabotage the Turian navy. Kirrahe led STG will also assassinate talented officers and other important people, leading to the promotion of Primarch Victus. Salarian ground forces, with tough guy Tazzik by Yahg and Varren, will overrun roughly half of Turian colonies. The Volus stand no chance, and the Volus immediately start evacuating all assets to Turian territories.

Week 2:

The Turians rally thanks to Volus financial aid. Turians begin total mobilization, utilizing the massive Turian industry to mass produce dreadnoughts and ships. Volus banking enable Turians to take out massive loans, making the Salarians look dirt poor in comparison. The cloaked dreadnoughts do unprecedented damage to the Turian fleet, but cannot destroy the Turian fleet completely. Turian Blackwatch led by Saren and Lt. Victus hit back at Kirrahe's STG operatives; Salarians have the best close ranged weapons but Blackwatch will not be caught off guard, unlike regular units. Phaeston armed Blackwatch kill most STG they encounter.

Week 3:

Turians mass production enabled by Volus wealth and Turian industry starts to show. Turian fleet is back to almost full strength and Salarian offensive starts to grind to a halt. Official front lines like World War I start to form. Salarian cloaked dreadnoughts continue to inflict massive casualties, but Turians manages to outproduce Salarians.

Week 4:

Turians start to recover ground, their fleet now more massive than the Salarians. Both sides continue to replace lost ships, but Turians do it at a faster rate than the Salarians can kill them with. Salarian cloaked dreadnoughts form wolf packs in order to counteract Turian numbers. Wolfpacks continue to make life miserable for Turians, but Salarians cannot win the tonnage war.

Week 5:

General Corinthus leads the Turian and Volus fleet in a massive counterattack. Salarians had advanced notice and were well prepared. But by this time, Turian fleet far outnumbers the Salarian fleet. Cloaked wolfpacks inflict high initial losses, but Turians keep pouring them in. Salarians slowly give ground. Turian ground forces led by General Oraka and tough guys like Garrus and Nihlus start to slowly take back lost colonies. Although they sustain heavy losses due to Yahg, Varren, and superior Salarian close quarter weapons.

Week 6:

Salarians begin to lose even more ground. The attrition game is not working for Salarians. Newer weapons come online for Salarian Union, but Salarians are not financially able to mass produce them in sufficient numbers. Doctor Saleon slows the Turian ground forces with massed cloned rachni soldiers. Turian ground forces end up having to "planet hop", and they sustain super high losses while Salarians lose relatively fewer soldiers.

Week 7:

Turian ground forces are heavily decimated, but Turian navy is the strongest it's ever been. Turian fleet pushes Salarians back into Salarian territory, Salarian economy collapses and a financial panic occurs. Turians end up conducting massive orbital bombardment and no longer deploy any ground forces, saving up their numbers. As a result, Turians destroy whole Salarian colony worlds while moving towards Sur'Kesh. In response, Salarians escalate and Mordin Solus comes up with a super virus that begins to infect the Turians. Turians begin to further stockpile world destroying bombs.

Week 8:

Salarian plague destroys whole Turian populations and renders Turian ground forces impotent. Salarian plague annihilates the Volus, taking them out of the fight. In response, Turians begin to mass deploy world destroying bombs. Turian navy blasts Salarians out of Sur'Kesh's skies. And Turian Blackwatch lead remaining Turian ground forces on Sur'Kesh to deploy bomb. Salarians send in all ground forces, STG, Yahg, Varren, and Rachni they can against Blackwatch. Turian ground forces begin to collapse, and Blackwatch suicide bombs Sur'Kesh. The few surviving Salarians surrender to permanently plagued Turian ascendancy.

Week 9:

Turians hold trial and top Salarian leaders executed while the surviving young become Turian bondservants. Turian and Volus economy collapses after debts are called. Turians begin selling Salarian and Yahg slaves and Varren pets to recoup economy.

Result:

Costly Turian victory

Salarian Union destroyed

The few surviving Salarians become Turian servants or slaves to someone else

Turian population almost destroyed, remaining are very sick and future progeny become progressively weaker

Volus close to extinction

Turian and Volus economies never recover
