I took my team into the Deep Roads and brushed off Oghren when he tried to join us. I went in...explored Aeducan Thaig and then Caridin's Cross. I get to the end of Caridin's Cross and it says Ortan Thaig but when the map pops up, no Ortan Thaig. I go back out to see if Oghren is necessary to get to Ortan Thaig, but now Oghren is pissed I went into the Deep Roads without him. Am I stuck? I knew he was necessary for the tail end of the quest, but if you don't recruit him early, does this prevent you from finishing the quest?
Recruiting Oghren late?

I pretty sure he joins you when you go into the Deep Roads in search of Branka regardless of what you do. I think to progress beyond Caridins Cross he needs to be in the party

Like I said, when I first went into the Deep Roads, I brushed him off. I was able to go to Aeducan Thaig and Caridin's Cross, but it then wouldn't let me go to Ortan Thaig. Oghren is still at the gate between the Deep Roads and Orzammar, but he won't join my group. No dialog but "Sodd Off"!

I solved the problem (cheated?) by using the console command: "runscript selectparty." I post it here for the benefit of anyone who runs into companion recruitment glitch. I don't know if it would work with other party members. It was mentioned in the Dragon Age Wikia for other Oghren recruitment issues.
