They are probably expecting similar backlash as ME3 and DAI got so nuking forums before hand seems like good option for them. Sadly it also makes awaiting for game lot less fun while also making harder to find news of the upcoming game and after game is released it makes it harder to find community given fixes for bugs and clitches as well as quest and build help. And it does nuke the fandom, but well at least BW has to deal with less backlash so all good.
That's really a stretch to say they're nuking the forum over ME:A

I just started a Steam group called All Things BioWare.

If you have a Steam profile, give it a look. Many people have Steam profiles anyway. I much prefer it to signing up for some random forum site.

Yup they decided that it wasn't fair to the forum-goers that devs never come here anymore and make their announcements in other places.
So, to remedy that, they're blowing up the forums and telling us to go someplace else.
That's some real Catalyst-strength logic there ![]()

Hmm, is it? It's most possible reason I can come up with.

How when the forum is getting closed not even close to the release of ME:A?

I'm also confused by this move.
It doesn't seem overly likely that EA ordered this, until we learn in the near future that they shut down the forums of most or all of their gaming properties. I doubt they would go to the trouble of ordered the closure of this forum in particular.
As far as the place being toxic, it wasn't that bad. It was less saccharine than heavily moderated boards like Bethesda's, sure, but it also wasn't as much of a cesppit as places like 4chan or some sub-Reddits. Sure, you had a number of trolls, overly dedicated fans and curiously enthusiastic haters, but that's par for the course in a gaming forum really. Yeah, the Andromeda boards weren't exactly sunshines and roses, but I think that's mostly because of 1) lack of new information, 2) the legacy of ME3's ending, and 3) the removal of Off-Topic which naturally gravitated some rather irrelevant content towards the most active forum left, that being the one about Bioware's upcoming game.
There are a couple possible scenarios. Perhaps they shut the place down because they fear ME:A isn't going to be good and avoid an overly centralized backlash (which I honestly doubt, but is possible I guess). Maybe they will create a dedicated Mass Effect forum in the future, at least I hope so. Or they really believe maintaining these board is more trouble and expense than it is worth. Which doesn,t speak well of their dedication to encourage communication with fans. Or, Bioware's notoriously mediocre marketing department thought it would generate some buzz for the game, somehow. The latter almost seems like the most likely option at this point really.
I mean, yeah, we still have Twitter and Facebook, but the former is limited by 140 characters and the latter has a tendency of becoming an echo chamber.

I'd say it's close unless they will push it even further. I guess that's relative.

Figures you get Catalyst-strength logic from the guys who wrote the Catalyst.Yup they decided that it wasn't fair to the forum-goers that devs never come here anymore and make their announcements in other places.

It's still not close enough to make a connection, of all the reasons to think of making it about ME:A is nothing but more BSN paranoia

Well my theory is that it's about ME3 and DAI backlash and they are expecting same with ME:A so they shut outlet for that. So it's not only about ME:A then, it's about resenting previous backlash (due to comments of how it was long coming) and deciding to not wanting to deal with it anymore. To me it's plausible rather than paranoia.

Mostly the only bad feedback coming from these forums are from people who hate Bioware because of the ME3 ending and don't think that Bioware can make good games anymore.

IMO, your assessment is more than plausible, it sounds just about right.
What company would close their very active forum when they have a new IP coming out and info to be revealed soon? No company I've ever heard of. And if DAI was such a huge success and never had any backlash, then where are those sales numbers? All we know is that it had a debut at number 5 in the UK. It sold no more than DA2. Yet it's somehow the greatest in BW's history....according to EA. ![]()
If anyone believes the excuses written by BW then I have a lovely bridge for sale.

I already explained, I figured I could show support for bio here with the few other Bio fans that actually cared about Bio, and together, we would pressure Bio to deal with their problem.
Which is, like, exactly what happened.
I actually like Bio, so it's not really not fun for me to talk to other fans about it.
