Let's face.

The Asari squad mate will likely not be a commando.

So what do I mean by the threads title? Well, I always wanted to say it.

So I did.

But there is deeper meaning.

The characters that players referenced when they asked for an Asari Squad mate were often the following.

Aria T'Loak

Shiala

Tela Vasir

Captain Enyala.

The case for this is not the same as the one put forth by people wanting more Liara. In fact quite the opposite, we would in fact prefer a strong willed, highly skilled, well trained and dignified warrior of an exotic culture.

Who carries herself in that fashion. Asari commandos are after all the most skilled in the galaxy.

So it makes sense that we should have one of the best commandos in the galaxy accompany us, as a group of commando's; on the most dangerous missions bioware can imagine.

We also then are given the opportunity to explore Asari military culture, through history and into modern times, while we familiarise ourselves with another side of Asari culture entirely.

A new perspective and a new personality is what's called for with the Asari Squaddy.

So I really hope the one from the E3 vid is not another Merril/Sera.

On Topic. No Commandos, only a whole bunch of uninteresting sidekicks that don´t matter anyway. Why do they bother with henchmen in the first place ?

Seems like they do exactly the old mistakes again and just add new ones ...

I doubt they will give the Asari too much personality and agency. You don't want that in a universal romance option. So I reckon she will be young and sexually inexperienced.

I expect an Asari in the team. She is a mean no nonsense combat trained biotic, that will fall for my male Ryder's charms.

 

Provided, that is, she's no Ninja Turtle.

Merril and Sera were by far my least favorite of Bioware's companion characters, so I'd be be happy if I never again encounter their character types in another game. That I was getting Merril or Sera vibes from the Asari in th trailer has me concerned that she may be a squadmate.

To be fair however, we only see that character in a brief clip so it is impossible to draw any conclusions about the character's personality. My first impression of Vega prior to ME3's release was also negative, but he turned out to be nothing like I expected, and ended up being one of my favorite characters in that game.

shiala made me really want a real Asari commando on the squad.
Personally I'm hoping the weird annoying Asari from the trailer is just some random character, not a core one.
