After completing DA:I main story I went straight to Trespasser, because that is THE ending to the story. I knew there was a quest where Blackwall leaves, but I was more interested into charging forward the main storyline rather than playing detective on a companion I didn't even use once during campaign. As it is, I cant go back and do it anymore, unfortunately, so it would still be cool to learn what happens of him, because as it stands in world state right now - right after defeating Corypheus, he says he will be happy to help the Inquisition whenever, just him him up, then 2 years later in Trespasser I don't even get an update on is he alive/where can I find his dead body exactly. Kinda rude to leave him behind like that, even considering he was the weakest part of the Inqusition IMO.

Spoilers ahead, obviously.

Short version: Blackwall is not really Blackwall, and not really a Grey Warden. He's a criminal named Thomas Rannier who was recruited into the Wardens by the real Blackwall. Unfortunately, Real!Blackwall died fighting darkspawn before he could put Rannier through the Joining, and Rannier took on his identity because he was on the run.

If you do his personal quest, he reveals this by admitting who he really is and turning himself in to the authorities. The Inquisitor then has the option of leaving him to hang or getting him out of prison.  If you don't do his personal quest, he eventually turns himself in to the authorities after Corypheus is defeated. This is why he's not in Trespasser  for you. I'm pretty sure there's a codex entry explaining it somewhere around Halamshiral.

Also, he is a truly excellent tank. You should use him if you ever replay the game.

So in MY canon he's basically executed. Inquisitor will look back to him as some impostor who just barely contributed to overall goals and died as zero. No one actually grieved of him, no one to miss him, no mentions in epilogue nor history of Thedas. That's grim. :( Poor dude.

I beat Trespasser just 30 mins ago, when Iron Bull betrayed me I felt sad, but now my ending is made even more sad with such outcome for the dude just because I was too lazy to look up if I have his quest to do :D

BTW, speaking of Bull, is he going to betray Inquisition in EVERY playthrough? Because me and him very good pals, i can't imagine that occuring because of low approval towards my actions. (I did sacrifice his crew tho) ;(. And what if I romance him? Does he introduces his backstabing plot in 1 sentence aswell? ''Hello boss, I fucked you, HARD, now I'm gonna stab you in the back... literally..., but no hurt feeling right?'' *DIES IN A MATTER OF SECONDS* - I imagine it being like this. Pfff, and to think I trained to him to be a superb badass through the game. What a waste, BioWare!

Bull betrays you if he's still loyal to the Qun - that is, if you sacrifice the Chargers. This happens regardless of his approval and regardless of whether you (or Dorian) romanced him. If you keep the Chargers alive, he becomes Tal'Vashoth and doesn't turn on you.

His approval is really easy to get. Just do that fetch quest called "Memories of the grey". You get a whooping total of +200 approval with them all collected.

How can you leave that pine-tree-looking beard and sexy voice, OP?

Bull only betrays you if you made him loyal to the Qun. If you killed the Chargers in his quest, then that means you told him to keep obeying the Qunari, so that's exactly what he does. It wouldn't make sense for him to betray and murder all his other friends to support the Qun, but then later betray it just so his one other friend won't die.

If you tell him to stop listening to the Qun and support his friends, he does exactly that in Trespasser and will support you over the Qunari.

Bull also betrays you if you don't do his quest.
