"Concerning Our Forums" thread:

Such a shame, but they apparently... just really don't like us. lol! I mean, I thought they did, sort of, even though we got on their nerves. But hey, they got on my nerves, too--I still liked them, though.

I saw that tweet from Gaider. Then I saw Priestly respond with a "Bye Felicia" and a winky face. Gaider liked the comment. I had to look up the term "Bye Felicia"......and I see now what they actually think about us. All these years, all this time. Yeah" #iPlayBioware " what a laugh they must have gotten from that. People sending them stuff; thank you's and art, and all that.....

So be it.

The Mass Effect 3 ending fiasco is long past. Tons of fans love Mass Effect 3 Multiplayer - I am one of them. I still play ME3MP. I also enjoyed the entire ME3 game. Not everything on this forum is toxic. Of course, I will criticize Inquisition until I die, and I presume you're closing the forums so you don't have to look at the negative comments about DA:I. But I will also praise and defend DA2, which was sorely misunderstood by the mainstream. I was the most active on these forums in the past year. I feel insulted by this company, personally. I searched all the other major videogame company websites. Ubisoft, CD Projekt RED, Nintendo - you name it - they all still have their online forums up and running.

You say that forums are outdated, but no one else has phased out their forums.

No amount of corporate-PR-apology-speak is going to smooth this over. The damage is done. Everyone should look at it.

Yeah, let's just NOT. I don't agree with all the hate thrown his way but let him hang himself with his own words. Don't care about his appearance. Jerks.

They don't work their anymore so maybe that gives them more leeway to express what the devs feel in general, not gonna lie the apathy/silence from the devs and open schadenfreude from those that can express it stings. However you feel about certain elements of the forum this is still the place where thousands of people came together to discuss the characters and lore and worlds they've created. Millions of posts and I dunno how many hours have gone into this place and by extension their work. Time people willingly spent because they cared enough to, positive or negative.

You'd think that might engender some feelings of loyalty or protectiveness or appreciation or something  but no. We get apathy or get called toxic or "stress inducing" because they choose to invest all their interest in the negative aspects that's present in every community. The casual disinterest of the current devs and the mean girling of the former ones is the first time I've actually lost respect for them.

I felt a little sad reading that. I wasn't here for the "toxic" (blah, I've come to detest that word the past couple days) backlash that supposedly resulted from ME 3, but I've seen nothing more than respect and love for the BW lore and games here. Worst I've seen is very passionate debates but nothing that was disconcerting. So sad that this board is full of respectable, friendly, and helpful members who get treated like that.

The Twitter threads were really handy, I was looking forward to dissecting the concept art from Tevinter for DA4 (whenever it dropped) in the Tevinter appreciation thread and the theorycrafting both in the Solas thread and loose ones were always interesting.

To be honest, even the "official" reason is rather on the nose, that they're shutting it down because "the devs aren't coming on the forums anymore".

Regardless of whether the forums are - or at least perceived to be - toxic, that explanation seems way more about them than it does about us. It's even more telling about the effort being put into maintaining a decent conversation and discourse between the developers and fans.

If I go to the Glastonbury music festival and the headliner doesn't show up, that doesn't mean the festival is pointless and should be shut down. The BSN is like a concert where the band has become so apathetic they don't bother showing up any more, because part of the crowd occasionally throw bottles at the stage, ruining it for everyone else who wanted to see them.

I'm not accusing the devs of not caring about their fans, but it does seem at times like we're trapped in a relationship that's on the rocks. The devs know how to rock my world with an incredible game... is it too much to ask that they look and speak to me afterwards, y'know?

<_<

Almostfaceman definitely deserves full credit for heroically manning the trenches in that thread.

My contribution was mostly limited to covering fire and dropping the odd lore-bomb when it was necessary.

So if I understand things rightly, the OP was basically "this forum isn't toxic!" and the second post was originally an attack on someone's appearance?

No, the OP was "person who very recently made a seemingly sympathetic post in this thread might not have been entirely honest about it".

Actually Addictress' post included that not everything on the forum was toxic. Given that the second post was followed by Addictress and another poster expressing disapproval at it, this would be an example of the opening post's point.

What? I'm serious, that post attacking Priest crossed a line. I hate it when people attack looks.

But let me get something straight.

Reddit, and especially any other gaming forum (CDPR, you name it) is going to have 50 times the number of toxic, rude posts - more than BSN could ever match, any day of the week.

People are bitter and toxic right now, understandably so, because Bioware insulted us. Bioware is toxic.

So I understand the cause, I understand the source, but it doesn't mean I condone crossing all and any lines in reaction.

Oy gevalt! This kinda behavior is absolutely disgusting from someone in such a privileged position of power. By G-d Chris would be the kinda person to throw people into camps just like when my grandmother was gassed when she was only 7 years old.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I'll never forget the 10 million and the atrocities of the shoah.
