Oh, and for the sake of mentioning it, the individual in question was also literally repeatedly caught stealing others' intellectual property and claiming it as their own. So... that's who you're handing private information over to when you register.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the ME3MP forum may be saved by Cassandra Saturn

Only if one has a very poor understanding of the odds.

who was widely scorned and bullied by its members?

That's an epic set of blinders you have on.

Poetic justice at its finest.

I don't think you know what that means, but you're free to choose your own heroes by whatever system you like.

To be honest, one's IP address is less of an issue, it has more to do with passwords and e-mail addresses.

People who aren't careful, and register with a common password that also covers either their e-mail or any other accounts on the internet, that is enough information to hack into someone's data via any of several easy methods.

And it's not a question of whether you think the person/people with that data will act nefariously with it, it's a question of whether you trust those people with sensitive information.

And I'll remind everyone of the established level of honesty of the person being trusted with this information.

As always, do what you like, but do try and keep your eyes open, in the process. Walking around with your eyes closed is... unwise. Nothing bad will necessarily happen, but... opening your eyes makes a big difference in the likelihood of tripping over something.

Crap....making me a little worried now.

I think I might have missed something.

Has something happened with Cassandra Saturn here in the forum? I'm usually around the mod's topics and ocasionally on the twitter thread, so I don't know :\

Change your password immediately, would be my suggestion, to one you have never used before. Technically, no record of the old password should be kept, so you can inoculate against further risk.

Some people who "scout" options go so far as to use a secondary e-mail and pseudo-false registry information, just to be safe.

But again, it is not that I expect any of the leaders of the off-site options would necessarily seek to use the info against anyone, I also wouldn't necessarily presume that information is safe in their hands.

In the past, my rule has been not to discuss what I know of other posters, if it is negative or private, because I don't really feel it is appropriate.

You don't know me, and have no reason to assume that I don't usually speak ill of my fellow members, and would generally bite my tongue, instead. But that has been the case for the 4 years that I've been a member here. I'm not saying that I've never spoken ill of a fellow member (some may recall my out-of-character outburst towards Cain) but it has been exceptionally rare for me to do so in the forums.

So, if I'm warning people off, it isn't because I have a sense of vengeance, or anger, or hatred. I have avoided dealing with the issue, and I have been fine with that until now. But, I see people engaging in risky behaviour who clearly don't know what they may be getting themselves into.

So, to me, I am reaching out to warn people because I care about the community. Obviously, there are many who feel that pointing out Superblaze/Hackett/Saturn's past behaviour is unfair because they see them as a victim. I do not see a victim, but an architect of their own karma, and thus feel no guilt about honestly explaining what is going on (even if it requires me to speak badly of a fellow member.)

I guess my problem with the whole thing is that the position here seems to be, "Maybe it won't be a train wreck." I came in for the tail end of the CS stuff, and I don't have a dog in that fight. What I would like to know is that any gaming site I call home is more about games than drama and the personal proclivities of the people posting there.

The vibe I'm getting is that there is a perceived necessity that we all find a place to go in order to continue what we've had here. First of all, I think that's unlikely. Change is change. Beyond that, though, relationships formed out of a perceived need tend to end badly. Desperation causes us to overlook things in the short term that will assert themselves in the long term.

I'm fully aware of everything she has done, for example publishing Oni Gannon's weak spots pictures as her own, claiming to play difficulties above her actual level, and faking her own heroic death. She is no hero of mine. But at the same time she was just a kid looking for attention in inappropriate ways. The proper response was to call her bullshit when it happened, not to harass her by calling her "it." But juvenile behavior has a way of coming out on forums, even by people who are supposedly adults.

It will be interesting to see if she ends up being the bigger person. I suspect she will try, though I also suspect people will try to bully her off her own forum as well.

Well put.

I am likely to seek an alternative, or even create one myself. I do not feel the need to "keep the community together" because I don't see that as realistically attainable. I'm not even sure it's a goal I would genuinely want.

But I haven't done much concrete, yet, because there is most of a month, and I'm not interested in starting or joining a forum out of desperation, but because I'm genuinely comfortable with the place. If that doesn't turn out to be any of the existing alternatives, that's too bad, but it doesn't really change anything.

BioWare's community was BioWare's responsibility. I'm not concerned with maintaining the whole community (it would be nice but impossible) so much as individual people.

Which isn't to say that I'm not sad over all of it, I definitely am.

Many of the actions taken were anything but harmless. I honestly doubt you could be aware of the extent of it, as you claim.

I, for example, got to watch for a year in Code Blue while superblaze would proudly brag about their plans to make a controversial thread so they could report all the people they don't like and get them banned. And it worked, a lot. Until Ninja Stan got so fed up with it that he put in a request to Jessie (Edit: I apologize, it was not the current administrator, but the previous one, I believe Jeff... something. Not sure.) asking that superblaze be permabanned.

And then, out of the very sympathy you espouse, that decision was kiboshed because superblaze was seen as a victim by some of the moderation staff. Ninja Stan was the outlier, and the named mods were replaced a few months later.

So I have less faith that superblaze will be trying to "rise above," especially since the behaviour patterns haven't changed in the slightest in four years.

As for people trying to bully them off of their own forum? I have very serious doubts that will happen. You are attempting to paint those of us being honest about what happened as bullies, but the people pointing out the issues aren't even going to join the forum, so why would you assume the people that actually want to join would end up trying to bully the forum's host?

I really don't believe your perspective on it is accurate. But, as I said, you're free to do what you like. It doesn't concern me who wants to go where, I'm merely making sure people aren't being deceived according to the pattern that has existed for 4 years. I care enough to make sure they at least have some of the information they're missing.

Try that on mobile. As a web developer myself I disable adblock on desktop for most sites, since you know, I actually like making money.

This is what I don't get. There's about 3 and a bit weeks left. Why jump straight into this? What's the hurry?
