I like the real dragon age fans forum. Aside from an early invite to check them out, they've been totally silent. I signed up before leaving on holiday and since then haven't heard a peep from them. They seem to be oblivious of all the drama around the closure and creation of other groups. It's kinda nice break to visit them. Heh.

It's a great place, and we got a roleplaying section going on right now!

Artifice, i have respect for you, but you know that is bit excessive, excluding my BSN forum. i mean, you don't want to list the forum. ...

Cassandra,

I guess I can respect your tenacity if nothing else, but it's time to give this one up.

A site that has so little support from the community is not a community fan forum, it's a personal home page.

Artifice's listing policy is entirely justified.

empty.jpg

You deserve some credit for creating the site quickly when the closure was announced,

and for about 48 hours it looked to be a promising place,

but your divisive attacks on other sites and continual alt. creations to deceive people have killed it.

(and have driven away a swathe of moderators who were at one point supporting you)

May I suggest you direct your doubtless energies at something else because

to do otherwise only invites further mockery and bitterness.

It's not helping anyone.

Generally:

Can we talk about something else, please, this is a useful thread, and enough threads have been locked already for less.

I was hoping you'd post a screenshot of my account being the only one online.

Oh not that again... Would you kindly stop that already, please?

No, really, people, it's getting old. We all know by now, some of you have personal issues with the others. Ok. Fine. That's the way life goes.

But I'd rather not read about it in each and every thread during my final BSN week.

Now let's get  back on topic, shall we?

A thing that really  bothers me at the moment is that Fextralife does not allow me to register an account because of my 'evil' @yandex.ru e-mail.

As much as I respect the site owner's rights to have their own rules and policies, that's my primary e-mail. I've been using it over the decade, for all sorts of accounts, payments and services (BSN included). If for some reason it's not good enough for their forum, it's a pity then.

But so be it, because I don't have a 'better' one anyway, and I'm not going to bother with looking for one just for the sake of their forum.

I'm sorry, spam bots use that domain to create tons of fake accounts so if I allow it well have Gold sellers everywhere. Do you not have another email you could use? It's not done to spite you, spam is a real issue when you have a big site :(

Somehow, plenty of sites and forums (small, big and very big alike) manage to cover that without cutting away public domains. I've been online since 14400 dial-up, and your site is the second time I experience such a thing.

As I've already mentioned, I respect your home rules, and I don't say that I'm entitled to have everything 'just because', but Yandex is one of the two biggest e-mail services in the .ru zone. The other one is @mail.ru |(which is also on your black list as far as I can see).

So, with all your good intentions, .ru players are mostly out of options to join you (without extra jumping through the hoops). Which is unfortunate.

Do you not have another email you could use?

Even if I had one, I don't think it's a good idea to use job\corporate e-mails for a gaming forum account.

It's not done to spite you

Of course it's not. No harm done.  :)

It's a pity though.

Smaller sites don't have as many spam problems, and large sites have money to spend in countermeasures. We run a very large fansite, so have worst of both worlds in a way. You could create a gmail account in a few minutes just for registration, I realise it is an extra hoop but honestly before we introduced this I would spend way too much time deleting spam content from forums and wikis alike.

I feel your pain. I was co-admin of two very small forums, and both were drowned in spam. I can't imagine what a big site faces.

Ironically, the more refugees each site attracts, the more spam it will attract. It's just a matter of time.

Does not make any sense. Same free public domain, but in .com zone.  I don't see how my legal e-mail on a solid .ru e-mail service is any worse. They also have those anti-spam engines, filtres, policies etc.

All coming exclusively from respected .ru public domains, yeah?

As I've said, it's the second time in many years that I stumble across such a 'safety measures'. Had not seen much spam on either of known forums (which are many). Used to be a mod on a local ISP forum (IPB, small team of mods and couple of admins) and it was nothing that we could not handle. If your site\forum can be massively  spammed, than something is very wrong on a server-side.

Anyway, I respect your ways even if I dislike your methods. Good luck with this one.

Hey folks --

I'm part of the group working on continuity of Projects, and we've been discussing the problem of how all this information is going to be lost once these forums come down in October.

We decided it would be worth creating a WordPress that can act as the "HQ" for all this info. The site will exist as long as WP exists, so there's decent longevity. It already contains basic info about the closure itself and all the info in the OP of this thread. To be added soon will be info about Blogs, Projects, and more.

If folks could start linking this site around, that would be great. Then we'll get the page views up so when players attempt to search for "BSN closure" Google will return the blog in the search results.

Hope we haven't ruffled any feathers by doing this; we're just trying to ensure this information stays available and as visible as possible :)

Here's the new site: https://whereisbioware.wordpress.com/

I'm sorry that you find the restriction so personal. It may not make sense to you, but I've been running this site since 2008 and we have learnt what works. Your experiences are your own, but they don't disprove mine. There are plenty of domains that have been removed, usually as per listings from spamhaus. Now you may think that allowing some and not others is dumb, but the reality is, it works.

Spam has nothing to do with a server by the way, it has to do with page rank. When you run a site with high page rank you attract people wanting to leech it to rank their domains. Yandex is used by many such "seo houses" to create hundreds of users amongst websites. Mail.com, and a lot of other emails are abused as well. Gmail, ironically, does not because they check for robot creation. So you get a spam from gmail when it came from an Indian house that uses actual people, thus less often.

Anyway, I'm sorry that creating another email is a hurdle, and I'm sorry you have no way of seeing how we ended up in this situation. However I hope the above clears confusion regarding our motives.

Fexe you need to know that Russian users can't access anything email hosting service related in from USA because they are banned. that's reason why they are limited to their own russian emails. i done my research on which email hosting service that were banned in Russia. Gmail is banned here unfortunately. that's why. Nrieh, you are welcome to sign up at uBSN regardless of the circumstances that occurred. uBSN doesn't block any email from any country. so it's all hassle-free

I will not be discussing this here. If you would like to press the issue, I invite you again to send me a PM, and I will be only too glad to elaborate on my reasoning.

200% absolute bullsh!t.

i done my research on which email hosting service that were banned in Russia. Gmail is banned her

You need to go and do some more research then.

Because we've got gmail, yahoo and pretty much any other service legally avaliable in the country. Some people had prefered those, while others kept to the local services. Some would probably  just go and register another mail for the sake of the forum.

Nrieh, you are welcome to sign up at uBSN

Nice try, Cass, but I don't think so.
