The BSN/BioWare Forum has its flaws, and I have to take frequent and lengthy breaks from it in pursuit of other interests. That said, it has always been and still remains the best place to discuss Mass Effect with knowledgable, passionate fans.

I won't miss many of the more inane or creepy topics here (though I'll likely get a bit nostalgic about those creepy threads, someday). What I will really miss, though, is some of you, my fellow BSN members. I'll miss our passionate discussions about a video game series that we've each enjoyed enough to come here faithfully throughout the years.

I don't know you guys and gals personally, but I know a facet of each of your personalities. I know how you're likely to approach a given topic; whether we are likely to agree or disagree on a subject before we post; which parts of each game you each love and dislike; and so on. We've spent a lot of time together here, over the years. I suspect some of us are enough alike that we'd likely get along in the real world, as well.

At any rate, I didn't get on here to post a sappy internet love letter to you ladies and gents. I want to know where my fellows intend to keep discussing Mass Effect. Keeping this "never-ending discussion of all things Mass Effect" alive might be a pipe dream, but I'd like to know where you guys are going to try to make it happen. The other existing communities seem uninvested and unfamiliar with the series, compared to the people here. I imagine we could change that if we "invaded" in numbers. ;)

Right now most people are still choosing sides for the upcoming war of succession.  It will probably be pretty bloody, or at least filled with animated gifs.

As the members of the BioWare Forum are scrambling to find new homes, questions are rightly being asked about the people proposed to run future forums.

As administrator of the Unofficial BSN (uBSN) on the ProBoard platform. it’s right that I introduce myself a little more fully, as I have had a colourful history on BSN and I want to set out my aspirations for the future of BSN which can now only be unofficial following BioWare’s decision.

I am Cassandra Saturn, a 27 year-old trans woman living in Puyallup near Seattle. I love and deeply enjoy the feeling of community that comes from discussing the pros and cons of these games.

I first joined official BSN in 2010 and must hold up my hand to having been a bit of a ‘troublemaker’ in the past. Never with malicious intent, but I can understand why people would have facepalmed at my choices about what I had done in my life and what I was and had made and the conversations I would have with my own alts. I know I drove the ME3 multiplayer users crazy long time ago. I understand how I got that reputation, but I’m older now, and if not wiser, a little calmer :-)

I'm going to try to stop arguing on BSN with those who have concerns, because the only real way I can address those is through my future actions.

I’d like our future home to be one that welcomes most sections of the BioWare fanbase, whether optimistic or pessimistic, appreciative or critical, a multiplayer or only single player. We can cope with cheeky and amusing (to a point) but will also be kind and supportive, and tough on the nasty and the haters. I want our forum to not only be somewhere that we can talk to each other enjoyably, but somewhere that in time even BioWare staff could lurk and feel safe to occasionally make a contribution without the pressure of it being on their official site.

I’m really good at building forums and forum structures, the uBSN group is already active with some 600 posts in 36h. But for the sake of credibility and community access I’m reaching out to some leading community members to help (with admin access), including some who may not previously have wanted do so with a 10 foot pole, so no-one need worry that anything strange is going to happen to this group going forward. I’m also assembling a team of reliable and communicative moderators who will moderate well not indiscriminately.

If we put our minds to it we can have a community to enjoy without some of the negatives. That will help to prevent our community from fragmenting. We only have a few days before official BSN locks, so I hope you will join me or at least check uBSN out.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
If you have any questions, please reply in this thread or PM me direct.

I have set up placeholder categories and I am preparing to attempt a post import to save the threads to here:

http://fextralife.com/forums/f95/

I set up a thread to discuss it too:

https://forum.biowar...reads-and-such/

I'm trying to avoid spamming the same replies all over, or repeating many threads, so if anyone needs any help or wants to know more please let me know!

might send a tweet now and again to a dev or two. More in depth discussion about some aspects of the ME:A  might get brought on some non-gaming forums. Other than that nothing in mind. As for talking with the community members from here on any their refugee forums well...

I intend to get drunk on the streets, howling Elcor Hamlet quotes at passerbys in the vain hope somebody will stop and indulge me with a discussion on whatever news is currently making me cry and/or climax.

Or I'll try another forum, I haven't decided yet.

I think Reddit is a pretty good place.

Of all the alternatives, I think Fexelea's forum is the best bet. It also has a Wiki attached to it, which could be cool (since the big Mass Effect Wikia is led by a closed sectarian bunch).

RPG Codex is also worth to check out, it's pretty die hard.

Well someone else told me there are already 6 or 7 other forums out there and there will probably be more after the end of this month.

Probably reddit. Though I have signed up for Cyonan's forum (EDIT: and Fexelea's) just in case.

The bad thing is that only in this forum people are obsessed enough to post ultra-detailed builds for all games. It's a shame the extremely long builds for Neverwinter Nights were lost when the old forums went offline. Those guides included what attributes and abilities to pick for every single level up from start to finish across two or even three classes for your character. Those guys were insane.

In reddit there is a very casual fandom where people just show toys they have bought or ask you what your favourite dialogue is.

EDIT: Fexelea's forum is a lot prettier than Cyonan's, I hadn't visited it till now. Cyonan you need to step up your forum game mate.

A lot of regulars are headed to Cyonan's. I like it already. Especially the off-topic section.

I lurk in reddit sometimes but it wasn't a good place for a forum as it thrive on upvotes and anything about Garrus. But you'll find my real account on twitter via #MassEffect #swtorfamily. Clue: I wear a mask. Someone suggested I start my own tumblr page so I did yesterday which I'll dump screenshots and stuff.

Still, none of them is a good replacement for a forum. I'm not sure I'll join the new BSN everyone advertise about since some months ago I joined another Off-Topic forum which I kinda forgotten about.... then again where will I go when I'm having PMS and wanting something to vent about or something.....

Wherever BioFan, Hrungr, ElitePinecone and the Twitter thread end up.

I'll admit, I am waiting to see where the greatest concentration of "quality conversationalists" goes. I'll refrain from naming names, since it will just get weird, and I'll forget a dozen or more awesome people anyway.

I'm feeling somewhat pessimistic about the ability of any new forum to sustain itself, long term. (Though, a high enough concentration of BSN refugees would likely assuage many issues.) I had a unique relationship with this place. All those threads that made my eyes roll, or my head ache, or my mind blank with boredom were the threads that kept things alive, day after day, year after year. I'd leave for many months (thus the modest post count), knowing I could come back to a thriving pit of weirdness in which dwelt a handful of sane, passionate Mass Effect fans ever eager for discussion.

We'll see, my friends. I appreciate the replies, so far. Hopefully, more people throw in their two cents, as well.

Edit: I realized I'm asking everyone else to post their intentions, but I haven't shared much of my own.

As I mentioned, I'm likely to follow the "best discussions", or in reality the biggest or best concentration of fans with similar interests (not necessarily identical, but in the ballpark) as mine. I know who they are, so I'm sort of in "wait and see" mode, for now.

I already have a Reddit account, so that would be an easy thing. The Mass Effect subreddit is pretty useless, though, so we'd need a full-scale invasion of quality posters from BSN to whip it into shape.

I'm also willing to join a new forum. Several look to be nice efforts, already. I'm just waiting to see who goes where, as I said. It could be I end up with multiple accounts. (Ugh.) Maybe I end up with no accounts and keep my Mass Effect ramblings to myself. That's always a possibility, too.
