I've written this strategy guide twice on Reddit so far (because posts are purged after 60 days). Rather than write it a third time two months from now, I'm going to save it here. I know, I know, it's temporary until I figure out where to host it permanently. I, of course, welcome comments and corrections.
I've beat Nightmare with all three classes using this strategy:
The PC's main job is to zap the rift to weaken the Pride demon. How you survive to do that depends on your class.
If PC is a rogue, stay in Stealth the whole time, avoid fighting the adds. If you are an archer, you could take pot shots at the Pride demon, but either have Evade or Stealth ready in case you aggro the adds.
If PC is a mage, try to remember to spend a skill point on Fade Step before getting to the Pride demon battle. Spam Barrier on 1) yourself, 2) Cass and 3) Solas & Varric, with that priority order. Fade Step to evade attacks. You can attack the Pride demon at range, as long as Cass is soaking aggro (see below), but don't attack adds if you can avoid it. Use the pillar in the middle for cover and for kiting.
If PC is a warrior, feel free to attack adds, but stay away from the Pride demon. Let Cass handle it. Use the pillar in the middle for cover and for kiting.
Configure AI settings as follows:
Cass's job is to soak all the aggro from the Pride demon and stay alive.
Cass: Follow Cassandra, 0 stamina reserve, 2 potions reserve, take below 30% health. Set Shield Wall and Challenge as Preferred.
Solas & Varric's jobs are to hold position and do ranged attacks on the Pride demon. Solas also should spam Barrier.
Solas: Follow Cassandra, 0 mana reserve, 5 potions reserve, take below 20% health. Set Barrier to Preferred.
Varric: Follow Cassandra, 0 stamina reserve, 5 or 8 potions reserve, take below 20% health. Disable Leaping Shot (if you have it).
At the beginning of the battle, use Tactical to set Solas and Varric in a corner and Hold Position, out of the way. I like to use the one with a raised elevation with NPC archers (to the left and behind your facing when the battle starts).
Use Tactical to command Cass to attack the demon with Challenge.
If Cass dies: wait until the Pride demon moves away, then revive her manually.
If Solas dies and you are not a mage yourself: revive him manually, provided you aren't down to 2 or fewer healing potions.
If Varric dies, leave him dead, unless you have a lot of healing potions left.

So the optimal way to do this is to NOT run around in a circle around the rocky thing and hope and pray the demon doesn't zap you while you try to revive Cass/Varric/Solas?
Just me?

I don't remember exact tactic, but I do remember it didn't create too much trouble.. My NM PT was with mage, btw. And I was running around the rocky thing ![]()

I thought that goes without mentioning.
