ME2 is a fantastic game. I have enjoyed it. Liara was easily my favorite ME1 character and was my Paragon's love interest. In ME2 I didnt expect her to be a party member  but I expected for there to be more feeling and more dialogue when I interacted with her in the second game. She is so cold and distant. Who wrote that script anyways? Awful. Her role is basically (*kiss* now go hack terminals). What? She used to be the most compassionate member of ME1, it was her sex appeal. So why on earth did they turn her into such an unlikable character and why wasn't she given more lines? Do you think bioware thought different=better?

This is the aspect many people are condemning the most. This portion of the game is a horrible job of hack writing that only shows the contrived nature of trying to force "dark" and "edgy" where it doesn't belong.

Bioware seriously needs to address this major **** up with character continuity or there respected label as good storytellers will take a major hit. Such continuity errors are not only pathetic, but they show a complete lack of talent when they are at this level.

Yeah, I was EXTREMELY disappointed by this. I had and still have a huge nerd crush on Liara, and when I found her I was jumping for joy. Two minutes later, I was pissed. I really wish that a ME1 romance with Liara had more emotional dialogue in ME2 than *kiss* "Shepard, hack terminals and **** off."

When I am done with my first playthrough of ME2, I might just go back to ME to play it again.

She was and still is my fav character of ME, I have not met her in ME2 yet and I already know it won't be as dramatic as I hoped for, but I am glad that they at least made it feel connected to ME1, i only hope in ME3 they give her a bigger role possibly.

I'm just going to enjoy the characters i have to roll with this time I guess.

I found her change welcome.

It will be interesting to find out what made her so crazy.

Once you run into her you will see what the fuss is about.   Come back and tell us what you think after you do.

I found her change intriguing actually, because there is so much going on with her. I think this is a classic case of "wait and see" because the writers are going somewhere that can make the reunion in ME3 truly EPIC! If what they did with Ash/Kaiden is any clue (which I thought was good btw and touching), there should be a huge reunion thing in the future. I am optimistic about this although I am said with the state of the Liara relationship as it stands now, but they said this is the "troubling" part of the LIs in the trilogy. I say hold out and stay optimistic. BioWare should know better than to crush our hopes and dreams like that. They know we love our Blue berry muffin. :P

I don't LIKE her, I can say however that we have 3 more issues of Redemption coming our way and we'll most likely see a reason for the changes. If we don't then I'll be pissed, if she's not back to normal or closer at least in ME3 then I'll be pissed. So far I'm being abrasive with her because at least she's not either of the human LI's who wouldn't even look at me when they heard what I was up to.

Her change really made me stop and think "WTF is going on here?" It seems totally out of character. Garrus, Tali, Kaiden and Wrex all remained the same characters I grew fond of in the original...but Liara? Wow, I seriously do not like the change in her at all. It is just so...drastic and out of character.

For some reason I don't mind that you cant't take her on your team. I used her in all my squads in ME1 when I go to take down Saren at the end (did 3 play throughs) because Signularity really ****s Reaper-Saren over for some reason. When I heard that nearly everyone had moved on to other things from IM (Illusive Man) I expected to not be able to bring any of the old hitters back. Tali and Garrus were a surprise.

I don't think Bioware is going to lose any reputation over how things played out with your old crew. The death of someone you respect changes you usually, I think the way Liara and Garrus were written was extremely well thought out.

yea the human LI's are complete asses. If I would have gotten treated better by ash I would wait for her in me3. But because she was a total b!@#t I find miranda more attractive and with more of an open mind. I do hope however that bioware does not punish us by liking someone new because if they leave us lonley in me3 I will be upset. Its because they made the LI's from me1 abandon us that we feel the relationship is dead. We are not married to the LI from me1 and after the treatment we recieve from them basically dumping us we should not be punished for choosing a diffrent LI. It cannot be considered cheating because you are not together the LI from me1 made that clear enough.

But I think BioWare realized this would happen. On one hand they have people who want to see the ME1 LI's come to a gratifying climax as well as knowing there would be people who like the ME2 romance options better. Expect ME3 to be both a big game and filled with multiple branches of content. I expect ME3 to the best of all three in more ways than one. The budget for ME3 is gonna be huge. Hopefully ME2 sells well enough to cause EA to invest a LOAD of cash into BioWare for ME3. so whoever pirated the game, stop being ..... and go buy the game. It's pirates who threaten our ability to get the most out of this trilogy. encourage your friends to buy the game. Support, support, support!!!

I don't know how many people got the CE(Collector's Edition) copy of ME(Mass Effect), but there is a comic that tells Liara's backstory in this whole thing. I haven't found her yet, i've been playing for 8 hours and i've barely just recruited Grunt. But i did read the comic that came with it, and it seems like she's been through hell and back looking for Shepard. Besides, i remember IM(Illusive Man) saying that she was working with the shadow broker now, so that may bring out some issues with her state of mind. Almost as it traveling far and wide have made her somewhat distant to what she thought she knew about the galaxy. Again, i'm just assuming, and apparently nerding out.

I'm not sure whether to have my canon male/paragon Shepard wait for Liara or go to Tali... because honestly I can see him doing either one. I think it might take a bit of meta gaming on my part by finding out what happens in the comics and, if necessary, seeing what is in store in ME3 before I establish my canon.

I'm going to wait and see what happens in the rest of the comic issues before I form a final opinion on the matter. A lot of things can happen to force such a character change, and I've always found that the more innocent you were originally the deeper you can fall depending upon the circumstances. The **** must have seriously hit the fan for her to turn so murderous and calculating.

That said, I know my Colonist Shepard is going to be quite upset when I finally get around to doing that one playthrough...

Well that is the comic book and only issue #1. So here's what we DO know so far. Liara did join the Shadow Broker, but as far as we know in hopes of rescuing Sheperd, so it can be argued that she has done the most to find and save Sheperd. What we don't know is what is in the last 3 issues (obviously). I can assume that she undergoes more wild situations all in an effort to save Sheperd and I'm guessing she is betrayed time and time again. I think this is why she is "traumatized" in ME2 and not really her self. I sense DLC or a great, great role in ME3. I still love Liara and can;t wait to be her knight in shining armor and bring her back to who she is. This game is great. Don't write her off yet, there still is so much left to discover.

Oh, i will not write her off at all. I love Liara( in a video game eccentric sort of way). She was the best part about ME1 and was definitely the more intimate choice in terms of the love plot. But i think you're right. It seems like her whole venture to get Shepard back really messed her up on all sides. It really sucks that she's like this, but hopefully they make it so that you can save her from the turmoils she's been through. Like i said, i haven't gotten to that point yet, but i'm really intrigued as to how bioware can keep this relationship going.

She lost you - her savior, potential love interest , the man she spent a full game risking her life with... she lost a lot, she had to find your body for Cerberus, (Comic books) she had to live on her own since the team was dismanteled and the Council sure as hell tried to discredit all the reaper shenanigans of ME1... how would you react? Being told that all you pretended your team did was a lie? That the reapers are no danger despite all that you saw and did and that Shephard was dillusionnal? Would you stay all blind to the system's flaws and remain naive and innocent? No you'd be dead or worse... She grew up... she had to go through a lot, from your corpse finding to working for or undercover for the Shadow Broker (whom wanted to sell your corpse to the Collectors of all people)... what do you think that does to a person.

She is still troubled by you showing up, she is pleased but cannot abandon herself to you as well.. if she is indeed undercover... fraternizing with a cerberus agent would make her cover situation a Charlie Foxtrot.

Its merely sensical character development... HOWEVER, I would have indeed liked to hear more from her and other ME1 people whether crew or not...

Now that is my thoughts exaclty. There is almost no better explanation than this (until BioWare gives their's of course) :D

Well said, well said!

Feron, he is the Drell in the comic book. Based on what Liara has said, he might be dead and is the fuel apparently for Liara's vendetta against the SB. But yeah it's all in the comic book.

I bet he's not dead :P

You know what would be a nice big twist? Getting Kahlee Sanders as a recruitable squadmate in ME3 or anyone from the extended lore for that matter.

Where do you find Liara?  I kind of wanted to rush to find her you know.. LI and all.  Looks like I'm gonna be dissappointed as well.

Liara is basically damaged goods and if I could have my female Shepherd go with Tali instead, I would. It seems she is basically on the Matriarch Benezia path and for a few moments I thought what a well placed biotic throw might save the galaxy.

Then again, Bioware is all about making characters elicit emotional reactions. In ME 1, people complained Liara was goody two shoes and one dimensional. She has probably changed the most, character wise, even to the point that she made Ashley look rational. Even so, good for the story? We'll see.
