Hi there!

 

I've been having problems with the Vault not loading for me. After investigating a little I found some posts over on this forum that this is probably related to me getting my password wrong a few times so my IP address being blocked, and sure enough it works just fine if I go through a proxy. My account is brand new so I can't think of any other reason for the ban other than the password attempts.

 

Sorry to be a pain, but would it be possible to have my IP address unblocked? If that's a thing? I wanted to post on the NWN Vault forums but I can't for some reason, so I'm hoping someone from over there will see my post here and be able to lend a hand.

I've sent the IP to another admin who has access to remove the ban.

The NW Vault also has an irc feature. People often hop into irc and ask for help and we get their accounts sorted.

GOG's NWN forum is also still going to be around, if anyone from the Vault pays attention to it.

Maybe add a "Contact Us" button to email one or more Vault admins? That would, however, require some level of access to be able to use that button.

On the Vault:

1) there is a contact option for anonymous users under the About->Who->Contact menu.

(I buried it that far to reduce the spam-flood, which is also the reason for the IP blocking).

2) Nwvault irc channel is active and quick, when the right people are on.

3) There are several other forums mentioned above. Word does get around.

4) you can email webmaster@ 

neverwintervault.org (so you always have that option in a pinch, even if I am old-man slow sometimes.

 

As far as IP blocking being nonsense...

Project Q which does not have that feature currently has 22,000 accounts... all but 50 or so of them are spam accounts.

I am in the process (oh, joy!) of cleaning them out for Meaglyn as we type.

The lack of automated IP blocking contributed greatly to IGN shutting down the old Vault, as well. (If you recall, I was admin there before the fall :-P ).

 

But just like Captcha and other anti-spam measures, there will always be mistakes made by bots.

 

Hence the Fallout series...

FWIW, I've tweaked the algorithm and it shouldn't be a nuisance now anymore.
