Greetings to all.

Between a ranged mage (pure ranged spellcaster instead of a Knight Enchanter or an Arcane Warrior) and a rogue archer, which one would you prefer to play as and why ? Also, lore-wise, I am curious who would win in a fight between a rogue archer and a ranged spellcaster ?

On the one hand, we have some cutscenes, the one I remember best is Dragon Age 2's Legacy DLC cutscene where Corypheus tries to cast a spell after the boss fight but gets interrupted over and over again by archer Hawke's arrows before apparently dying.

So it seems that a trained archer can fire arrows faster than a mage can cast complex spells. However, at the same time, we have spells that can be cast quickly with little animation. Rogues have stealth and evasion to dodge spells (Ring of Doubt is a unique item so it doesn't count) but mages have healing, barriers and wards.

So yeah I am curious to see your answers.

Have a nice day and cheers.

Depends on what type of a Mage and archer.

Pure caster Mage can be a Blood mage who can control anything that have blood, in this case an archer can't win 1 vs 1, even archer Hawke nearly got mind controlled by "Exotic Wonder of the East", Hawke only saved by plot armor

While regular Mage, depends on his/her experience and what type of spells he/she favor. Not all Mages are experienced in combat while archers at least hunting rabbits for food we can assume...so against experienced Mage, an archer could have a problem.

Throw away in game animation, to draw a bow is depend on strength and types of bow, it is not as fast or as slow as anyone imagine, sure some modern archers nowadays can make trick shots using light modified bow shooting 3 arrows or so in seconds, but that truly not represent what could happen in real battle using real bow.

Then look at range and wind flow, the game truly disregard these two factors. While magic casting don't actually need certain range to be effective and wind flow doesn't count, maybe it does count for Fireball but i don't think it matters, an archer must take these two factors into account to be effective

But rogue archers can sneak and shoot, this depends on his/her skill being in stealth and how accurate he/she can shoot. In reality to assassinate people is not easy, even by using bow and arrow, that's why assassins have so many ways to kill peoples other than using bow and arrows. But if it does hit then a Mage surely dead, especially with poison arrow.

Mage. Root spells would win it. Barriers would keep the mage from losing. There are also glyphs and spells that help deflect arrows. There's also Ice Wall, which provides cover. Stealth can countered with things like Mind Blast, or Veil Strike, or Wall of Flame if the mage can guess where the rogue might be.

I rotate between a mage and archer even though the game is geared toward a mage. I armor up and equip my archer with the best bows and combat skills and can take down any mage demon or hume. The secrete to success lays in weapons, armor. and combat skills.

My mage is armored and uses  a fire staff and the best combat fire magicks. I'm yet to use a specialty since I like raw toe to toe combat.
