I'm in Redcliffe now. I went to Dwynn, got him to agree to give Sten his sword back, said it was in his chest. I also successfully recruited Dwynn. But I go to the chest and it says a key is required. Huh? Shouldn't Dwynn have turned over the key after agreeing to give it to Sten?

Yes he should give you the key for the chest. I don't think I ever ran into that problem.
