I hope we get DA4. They made some major strides in DA:I, and Trespasser went a long way to ironing out the kinks. Honestly, their closing the forums is ominous to me. A *lot* of what we saw in DA:I and ME3 originally came up as pretty well defined forum suggestions, ideas that were put out there by players. How much of that would filter up without a common sounding board like the forums have been as long as I've been here? Other social media are far better for marketing purposes, just because of shear visibility, but they're crap for intelligent discourse. And we've seen a lot more experimentation in these games than typical AAA franchises. I imagine that would have something to do with it.

So either corporate is taking a very heavy hand (bad), finances are such that pennies need shaving maintaining this (bad), or whoever made the decision just isn't interested in long form feedback anymore (horrible). So yeah, all bad. Scary. I hope ME:A does very well, but there seems like good reason to worry. If there is a side project game, a strategy spinoff or something like, I'll be looking forward to that as long as it's on console. Maybe they played Banner Saga, I don't know. But it might be that smaller scale games are what's in the future, for market reasons. And that could very well be the strategy going forward, unless Mass Effect turns out to be a smash hit. I wouldn't be surprised now. Anything beyond that might hinge on how well those other products do. I could see that happening.

Combine a quality strategy/tactics game with something like Tell Tale's storytelling style and BioWare's character customization, that should make for a sweet game. So I'm still excited for what can be done with smaller budgets. If that's what we're seeing.

As much as I love the DA franchise, I would have been ok if Trespasser was actually the ending of the DA franchise (provided it actually closed meaningful plot threads), but it's easily my favorite game franchise and wait eagerly for the next one. I'm just glad that I'll have more ME to pass the time, or I'd feel a bit lost.

Yeah, there aren't games in the market that provide the exact experience Bioware games provide (at least to me). I would also feel a bit lost without them.

Thing is the stuff we said on the forums wasn't unlike what people were telling Bioware through other mediums, I wouldn't overplay the forum's importance in terms of giving feedback.  By Bioware's own admission, the devs don't spend much time reading these boards anymore anyway.

That being said, I'm willing to bet Bioware will still monitor some of the fan forums (Some of them have shown up on the BSN site in my signature).

They may not have visited the boards, but those ideas were still collected and transferred up the chain. They would tell us that through the community team, and it was true. I mean, just a few of the things I suggested and called for: modular customizable armor and weapons in Mass Effect, character specific designs for common armor pieces in DA, agent systems, songs as the story went along and singers, rather than constant background instrumentals, emphasizing "battlefield tactics", a narrated, animated save import replacement (suggested Leliana), etc. The boards largely pushed the evolution of character relationships and romance systems and presentation after DA2. Lots of things came directly from board suggestions. I'm glad for the fan replacement board, and I'll probably join on at some point, but the issue there is just numbers. Less concentration of minds bouncing off each other, the likelihood of good ideas coming out of any one group, and then being recognized, adopted, adapted, bulit upon and implemented by the devs as a third party.. Those chances go down, right?

Not that it won't still happen. But it has to come from boards like these, because long form discussion is the only way those ideas can be effectively elaborated on, communicated, and inspire the reader to run with it and make it real. And the seeds of those ideas often come out of long form, multi-party discussions that (on the internet) almost exclusively exist on message boards.

By the way, man, it's been a pleasure to know you on here. And Nefla :-) And Al and Bob. :) I've enjoyed it over the years. So thanks ^^

Was trolling for DA4 info(as I do every few months and dropped in on this thread off of Google).  DA:I was the most successful launch/game that Bioware has ever had.  The never did disclose number of units sold, but based on that is was a hit.  So I imagine that based on the success of that EA wouldn't abandon this sector.  Also as a female gamer (I know there are those of our number that don't suit what I'm about to say...but it's true for me) I don't like the shooters and there have been very few short games that I have liked.  I'm in it to win it with the RPGs.  I live for them and constantly complain that there aren't more companies like Bioware & the Final Fantasy franchise that offer me RPG options.

It means some years I have multiple games to play and others are dry years.  I think gaming companies can see that and see their is a niche for that.  The biggest problem is that it takes time to make these games.  FFXIII came out in what 09'? So seven years in between development.  But if the payout/easy patches and DLC are easier to spit out are big enough they continue.  DA:I was big enough.  Most likely we won't hear until after ME:A...which is a bummer to me since I don't play those(hubby does).

As far as the forums go I wouldn't be too disappointed.  I'll miss them sure.  But twitter is where a lot of the devs/writers interact now with the populace.  They are very active there and I think in reddits and tumblers as well(though I'm not as frequent there).  I pretty much exclusively use my twitter to stalk what the DA team is saying. If they are there then the feedback is coming from there.

Dragon Age Inquisition wasn't perfect, but it was much better than Dragon Age 2.  Dragon Age Origins may always be the best in my heart, since the design and vision has gone in a different direction than what it start.

However, if the Dragon Age franchise were to die here, I'd be crushed.  It's my number 1 favorite RPG world.  I have sunk countless hours into these games, and I don't want a tactical RPG akin to FF Tactics.  For me that would ruin the series.

Bioware, you might be shutting these forums down within in the month, but I hope you're hearing, loud and clear, that we fans want another game in the series.  We're willing to forgive the mistakes made in DA2 and DAI, because we want to progress in the world Thedas.

I want to see Tevinter, Parvollen, Rivain, Antiva, and Nevarra.  I want to meet the fog warriors.  I want to find the remaining magisters in the deeper roads.  I want to know if Andraste was really the Bride of the Maker or if she was merely a powerful mage who passed into legend.  I want to solve the mytery of the Qunari's origins.  I want to meet those from across the sea.

So come on BW.  Please give us Dragon Age 4.

You won't get one. You will get an MMO. DA:I was an MMO at first, remember?

That seems unlikely. BioWare's last MMORPG didn't meet expectations - which were wildly inflated, but anyway - and other recent games in the genre haven't exactly covered themselves in glory, either.

(I mean, I personally think that SWTOR is a pretty great game and would cheerfully play a Dragon Age MMO for as long as they kept the servers turned on if it were equally great. But I really can't see BioWare making one with the MMORPG market where it is right now.)

Eh I hope not.  SWTOR actually did a good job of making an MMO that can be played as a single player game (at least it eventually got there).  But I absolutely despise the current trend of turning popular SPRPG titles into MMOs.  Dragon Age isn't about that, and I hope it never is.  Although, some of the more retarded Devs seem to think multiplayer is the best thing ever.  I hope they continue to get overruled.

Personally Dragon Age is the one rpg franchise that I would prefer just keep rolling out sequels, despite deviations from established lore that always creep into each subsequent release. Making games isn't an easy thing to do and many voices weigh in behind the scenes during the development process, but it would be nice to see Bioware tighten up at least a bit on such disparities.

That being said, and as much as I'm looking forward to playing Andromeda; Dragon Age 4 can't get here fast enough for my money!!
