Okay a few days ago I tried starting a second character in DAI, a mage. But I encountered problems. I first made a thread on the Dragon Age Fans website from Autumn_witch. ( Link is in my sig. )
Here is a copy and past of my opening post about the problems I encountered back then...
But from controlling Solas/Dorian from time to time, I wanted to start a Mage character. So I backed up my Templars Patch_ModManagerMerge folder, and then added some mods to get a hopefully good looking Female Dalish Mage and made a new Patch_ModManagerMerge. ( And I did get a good looking Female Mage imho. 
) When going through the part before reaching Haven all was going well. But once I reached Haven I noticed some odd things that happened.
For instance one moment I could see the requisition officer outside the Chantry in Haven, ( The one next to Lelianna's Tent. ) then when walking towards her she would suddenly disappear? Also the Blacksmith and all the crafting stations where not present. Another odd thing that happened when I tried this Mage character, is that on 2 or 3 occasions when I tried to enter the Chantry ( So that I could go to the Hinterlands. ) My screen showed the black loading screen ... and it then continued to show it? It never continued the game, and I hat to use Ctrl/Alt/Delete to stop DAI with the task manager?
The time that I did get to play it the right way with that Mage, and after I reached the Hinterlands, I got the same black loading screen problem when I tried teleporting back to Haven. At first I thought it might be a problem with one or two of the mods I installed for this Mage character, I especially thought that this mod was a good culprit so to speak ...
MoreLoot Prologue
So I deleted the new Patch_ModManagerMerge that I hat made for my Mage ... Deleted the save games and then deleted MoreLoot Prologue. Remade the Patch_ModManagerMerge and restarted the Mage character. But on reaching Haven the second time, I encountered the same problems. Not as often that time, but still. I also tried it without any mods and I still got the problem with returning to Haven from the Hinterlands, so I some how doubt it is related to mods. ( BUT ... I guess I could be wrong on that. )
I never hat or have those problems with my Templar character. Is it perhaps not possible to start more then one character in DAI as we can in DAO?
After a two days or so of testing I made this post...
1: I removed the merged patch from my Templar.
2: I removed the save games from my Templar.
3: I removed all mods I use with my Templar.
4: Then in Origin I used "Repair game" to check if something was wrong, and from what I could see it did not appear so.
5: I then started a Mage character with no custom world state and no mods what so ever. ( Just the default world state like with my Templar. )
"The result ... I got to the Hinterlands without a problem, and when I hat 4 power I tried to teleport to haven. And then I first got those info loading screens
followed by the black loading screen with at the lower right the blinking Inquisition symbol ... and that was it, it kept showing the black loading screen. And
I repeat that this was without any mods or a custom world state." ( This result was the weirdest, I mean no mods yet this result?? )
6: At that moment I did steps 1 to 4, but then with the files from the mage I hat made at that moment.
7: I then started a Mage character with a custom world state and with the same mods as I use with my Templar. ( But I first sorted the mods as best as I could,
and then remade the merged patch before starting the mage character. )
The result ... a cut and copy of the results above.

11: I moved the merged patch from my Templar back. - I moved the save games from my Templar back. - I moved all mods I use with my Templar back. ( Did not sort the mods. )
12: I start the game, click "continue" in the main menu.
The result ... I can teleport to Skyhold or any place I have been before whenever I want, and there are no problems what so ever!?
As can be seen I tried several things but no matter what I have tried so far, I keep having problems when I tryout a Mage as a second character. My Templar continues to play without any problems, so this is very weird and annoying to me. I just can not seem to find out what the problem is when I try to start a second character, a Mage?
