Probably Merrill. But it might be Shale. Or Dorian. Or Varric. Or ...

Really, most of them are pretty great. I'm not surprised you have trouble choosing!

Cole, Varric, Cassandra

Varric is reasonable, he's one of the few characters in the series, that may disagree, but also approves of reason, if you give the right reason. He's the most easygoing character and it doesn't take much to please Varric.

Cole is also reasonable in a way, he may not have the logical reasoning Varric has, but the emotional reasoning for certain he does. And there's something about his anxious and innocent delivery that makes him kind of a little brother to everyone.

Cassandra is also reasonable. She has logical reasoning, but sometimes can let her emotions get in the way. However, she's often acceptant of ideas, like when she criticize the Chantry, she accepts, making it better. She even has a romantic relationship with someone who does not have the same faith as her. But she's reasonable at least.

Oh and Iron Bull for the same reasons. Reasonable.

Okay, then seriously: Anders is a very good character: you can like or hate him, this not change this fact. (As Vivienne or Sera, just I think, Anders more complex. My opinion.)

Yes, because I would call a character who had always planned to blow up a chantry of people complex. No I call that a Disney Cartoon Villain. There was no complexity in his character.

I am not 100% a fan of Vivienne, however, watching her and having one of my Inquisitor befriend her, Vivienne actually is more than just the ****** everyone portrays her as. I've actually seen a side of her that feels more Maternal. She actually feels like one of those nurturing mom friends, who cares deeply about her friends, and takes them under your wing.

Sure she isn't so compassionate about it, but depending on your dialogue options, she actually comes off a lot softer. Ignace was my sympathetic, and emotional Inquisitor. He tried to give everyone mercy and second chances. And when Haven occurred, and Vivienne asked how he was doing, Ignace came off very sympathetic. And Vivienne came off very sympathetic.

Who Vivienne is dependent on how you interact with her. It's easy to write off her character as just a ****** or rude. But depending on how you to choose to interact with her, she becomes compassionate, and maternal. That's actually a pretty complex character.

Again I am also not a 100% fan of Sera, but she does make valid points. Albeit, they are often crude and crass, I actually see her as a scared little girl. My only complaints about Sera is that she's stuck. She'll never budge and never move from her position. She can become more open about some of her veiws and considerations of other people. However, she also a character limited by her limitations.

Which is fine. It's actually a great nuance to the other characters because there are people in this world. That despite all the evidence shoved in their face, despite all the talks and conversations they will not change as a person. And that's nuance.

Anders comes off from the very start as hateful individual. Who has some rather off things to say. Most of the characters, and this is a complaint for all the Dragon Age 2 characters never came off feeling human. They felt like people set pieces we moved from. They were shallow and baseless. And Anders reminded me of a cartoon villain rather than someone was nuanced.

Take for example, Anders versus Alexius.

Alexius, imo was a really great villain. Compared to some I have seen, Corypheus is kind of a lol kids television villain as well. I think it has more to do with the way he was written. Anyway;

Alexius would sacrifice the world for the love and cure of his son. This shows humanity, it's not that he's just some crazy individual. You can see it during the quest, the moment he gives up and knows he's lost his son. You can feel and read his pain. He feels the most human out of all the villains in DAI. It's sad Alexius was the only strongly written villain.

Meanwhile, Lucius, Floriane, and Samson are just comically evil.

Anders lacked humanity from the very beginning. He was just seething with rage and hatred, and there was no sense of nuanced humanity in him compared to a character like Alexius.

DA:O - Alistair

He's a funny guy and doesn't take life too seriously with the exception of the relationship with his sister, but hopefully as King he can repair the relationship and her children will have a better life than she did.

DAII - Merrill

How can you not absolutely adore Merrill?  Yes, she makes mistakes from time to time that could land your party in hot water, but it is never intentional.  She has a child-like personality that is most endearing and is my preferred romance of choice.

DA:I - Sera

Everybody loves a jokester.  Yeah, she may not be an elfy elf, but do they always have to be so serious?  Have fun once in a while and throw a pie or just make some nob's desk a little wonky to irritate him and if need be he gets arrows.  Also my preferred romance of choice.  All the others seem so serious.  Relax and have fun a little.

Along with that I will give my least favorite characters

DA:O - Morrigan

Where Morrigan is a powerful mage, I'll give her that, but her interpersonal skills are slim to none with too much time spent in the wilds.

DAII - Anders

Not just counting that he blew up the chantry, but his willingness to use his friends to do it.  The end does not always justify the means and if he would have just communicated his goals, I would have been all for finding a way to make it happen without the need for all the destrcution, after all I am mage friendly myself.

DA:I -  Vivienne

Miss Fancy Pants was obviously born with a stick up her hooha.  She needs to learn to let go and have fun a little.  Living in Thedas is scary enough without having some priss raining on your parade all the time when you're just looking for a bit of levity somewhere within Thedas.

Lack of humanity? No. He was a healer int he Darktown. He regret what he did (well, not the goal!). He had to go to Kirkwall for his ex-boyfriend. He blame himself, for what happened with Justice.
No. He's not at all simple. And not evil.

Poor lyrium addict Samson! (Blame the Kirkwall Circle/Chanrty/Meredith!) He was a good man!

I am going to bring this up to make a point. I'm Autistic, I am on the spectrum. And yes, some of the actions I take are not because I am in control when I take them. However, that doesn't justify the actions I took. I still have to take responsibility, but at least give my reasoning for understanding. That doesn't mean my action is any less than what it was.

Samson nor Anders gets a free pass, they cannot use excuses. I understand an action, doesn't mean it excuses the action.

Do you honestly believe Anders did it just 'for the evulz?' That would be completely misunderstanding the character.
