Hello fellow Dragon Age fans,

I need your help regarding Cassandra romance. I'm currently playing "The Threat Remains" quest and I just ventured in the Hinterlands.

So far my "approval" with her is ok but I need your advice about a specific dialogue.

After the first conversation I had with her in Heaven she asks about the Inquisitor's home. Then we have the chance to ask something about herself.

In the conversation she slightly disapproves if we chose the romance option.

So my question is: can we choose the non romance option and still pursue the romance with her?

Or should we have to take the slight disapproval?

Anyway will this conversation still available after I came back to Heaven from the Hinterlands or should I reload a save, have the conversation and then traveling to the Hinterlands?

Thank You very much for help :)

It won't be a problem either way. You can either avoid the flirt option now or take the 1 point approval hit.

You'll have plenty of opportunities to increase her approval later. Unlike some of the other romances that really need to be started in Haven or face an uphill battle (e.g., Solas), Cass is more forgiving.

Just make sure you avoid these Disapproves and Greatly Disapproves decisions:

If this is your first playthrough, unspoilerly version:

  • Support the mages, diss the Templars
  • Make selfish/egotistical decisions
  • Trust the Grey Wardens
  • Fail to support the legitimate claims to the throne of Orlais
  • Trust the Imperial Mystical Advisor

If it's not your first playthrough, spoilers ahead:

Thank You very much for the info :)

It's my first playthrough so I try to avoid certain spoilers but between reading a spoiler or making some catastrophic choice, I'd choose the spoilers :)

So we can't go to Redcliff if we want to complete the romance with her. Or can we go there and make sure our actions get her approval?

I have still to decide between mages and templars: I'm currently looking for in-game facts to guide my judgment but if going to Redcliff may have a negative impact on Cassandra romance, I think, at least for this playthrough, I'll meet the Templars.

Thanks again for your help :)

It doesn't matter much, that negative approval is only -1 point, won't stop you romancing her. But, if it annoys you (As it did me) you can avoid that negative hit. If you have around 29ish approval with her, you get a slightly different dialogue, with no negative approval for the romance option. See here for details.

http://dragonage.wik...aghast/Approval

Specifically, this bit

Tell me about yourself. Not entirely. I'm just curious as to your motivation. (low approval; threshold unknown)

  • (Romance) I'd like us to be closer. -
    Slightly Disapproves
  • Just being friendly -
     Approves
  • Suspicious, aren't you? -
     Slightly Disapproves
  • Just tell me.

There's... Not much to know. (high approval; +/- 29-30 approval)

  • (Romance) Such modesty!
  • I'm not trying to pry.
  • That can't be true
  • Just tell me something.
  1. Choosing all dialogue options that gives the most approval with Cassandra in the cutscenes and the other prompted conversations, before going to the Hinterlands, should give around 29 approval which unlocks the second dialogue.

I'm not sure what you mean by "go to Redcliff". There are two locations that could mean. Redcliffe Village, which is perfectly okay to go to, or Redcliffe Castle as part of the "In Hushed Whispers" quest. If you mean "In Hushed Whispers", it isn't a complete disaster to choose that over "Champions of the Just". Just keep in mind that Templars and Seekers are trained to be suspicious of dangerous mages. Make decisions accordingly, if you want Cass's approval.

To put it in quantitative terms:

In Hushed Whispers, make a decision Cass would approve of, yields you: Cass Approves
In Hushed Whispers, make a decision Cass would disapprove of, yields you: Cass Greatly Disapproves

Champions of the Just, make a decision Cass would approve of, yields you: Cass Greatly Approves
Champions of the Just, make a decision Cass would disapprove of, yields you: Cass Disapproves

So, considering Cass's approval only, you have more upside with Champions and more downside with In Hushed Whispers.

BUT, don't let that overly influence you. A Disapprove is easily repaired. A Greatly Approves can be equaled or exceeded through other side-quests. If you really want to do In Hushed Whispers for other reasons, go ahead, just be careful that you don't land in the Greatly Disapproves case.
