I got Mass Effect 2 last tuesday and found that in general, this game looks awesome in S3D with 3dVision.
A few problems tho:
1) Had to rename MassEffect2.exe into MassEffect.exe in order for the driver to use the nvidia crosshair (this will probably be included shortly in the new driver)
2) Use a custom ini file that help remove the original (2D crosshair). This post describes where to get it.

I was able to get ALL graphics to the max and was happily surprised (almost everything) worked.

I have 2 issues:

- It is WAY too dark, even with the brightness at max. Since the glasses cuts it by half, there should be a way to remediate that from the game ini file.

- The next one is REALLY annoying and that is the LensFlare creates major visual artifacts for any light. This includes wrong depth rendering of the small light flares and in some cases, whole flare lines crossing the screen from left to right (major leakage of the lighting flare effects). Boosting convergence until these rectangles go out of the screen might be working for the small lights, but increase the flares lines for bigger ones.
The way to remove these artifacts was to add into the game ini file a line:LensFlare=False

MAJOR problem tho: many objects interaction are made using what appear to be an object flare (huh???). I am referring to the transparent light blue rectangles over the items to interact with)... The issue is that turning off LensFlare seems to remove the object interact COMPLETELY... What ??? Let me say that again, if you turn off LensFlare, everything looks gorgious, but you won't be able to interact with many objects, like screen terminal (vendors), or complete some quests (like putting "the cure" into the ventilation.

How can that be ? I tested it over and over and I can confirm this...

I can understand why LensFlare can cause S3d problem but how in hell can this prevent object interaction...
It looks like Bioware should be able to fix this shortly by having object interact works as transparent objects rather than LensFlares...

Thanks

 /bump

This is apparently not limited to 3DVision...

How can a graphic settings (LensFlare=False) suddenly prevent interaction with objects (monitors, quest, etc...) ?

BioWare, you need to fix this !!!

<_<

Amazingly this issue haven't been fixed yet...

I just got the game recently and tried playing it in 3d vision.

No go.

When I was unable to open a door I had to give it up as being just not possible. I can complete the game just fine when I'm not using 3d vision, but as soon as I turn on 3d vision object interaction gets "iffy" at best, and the marker showing where points of interest of interactions with objects are are misleading at best with where they are shown.

ME1 had some issues with 3d vision too, but nothing this bad that made the game unplayable. It's actually a gamebreaking issue when you're using 3d vision, and I feel it's extremely bad form that they haven't fixed the issue yet. (seeing as the initial post in this thread is 9 months old).

You can produce new DLCs for the game, but you can't fix a gamebreaking bug for some of your customers? That's pretty poor form in my book.

Would it be too much to ask to get this thing fixed and also that you start paying attention to us 3d users when producing ME3 in the future? I wouldn't mind getting the minor graphic issues with 3d fixed in ME1 too, but I have little hope for that, and it doesn't bother me as much as it's not gamebreaking there.

Consolitis runs way too deep within bioware, Im not sure they ever recover.

Fix your lens flares here:

This game wasnt made with 3D in mind, or support for it. Don't expect a patch to resolve this issue.

Then why Borderlands is one of the best 3d games out there? Can you explain how Gearbox can fix the same unreal engine 3 related bugs that spoil mass effect ? The reason is simple , they care.

By the way you are right , it wasnt made with 3d in mind, it was made with x360 in mind , hence the consolitis.

Hell, this game wasnt even made with a screenshot button in mind.

... don't expect support for it! :P

BW HQ, sometime in 2009 :
"Fans taking screenshots! Horrible idea ! Lets break it!
- broke:D"

BW HQ, sometime in 2010 :
" Fans want to play in 3d and take 3d screenshots! Geez! Pretend that we don't know about 3d !
-(...)"

I would say the the modifications made for Mass Effect 2 were more significant than Boderlands, which would increase the difficulty of making a patch.

No , its pretty trivial, UE3 developer EPIC fixed it themselves recently . Probably they just need to copy paste the shadow code of UDK, and fine tune the DOF.

However 99.9%  sure they won't fix it ,and I dont really care, with DNF and crysis2 on the horizon, and played like 200 hours ME2 already, half of that in 3d.

I exactly know how much better is it in 3d (about 80% on my 100" projector screen) , still the game mechanics arent the best, even though they tried hard to copy Borderlands.

Sick & tired of their weapon unlock DLC policy as well, Shepard & crew kicking ass all across the galaxy, with enemies using the same ****old weapons DLC after DLC, laughable.

Don't you guys remember some old promotional video showing Geth Destroyer with assault rifle? What happened? They dumbed it down, not to decimate console players.  Easily the worst case of consolitis I ever saw.

The first 12 hours of ME2 , with my huge expectations after ME1 , well, let's not talk about it .

my biggest gripe is the crosshair issue and the "object flare" mentioned earlier. the lens flare isnt that bad imo.

My fellow nvidia 3d vision users, the lens flare problem has been solved by Tritosine on the nvidia forum.

We need to make changes to:

File: Coalesced.ini
Folder: C:Program Files (x86):Mass Effect 2:BioGame:Config:PC:Cooked

First, backup the original Coalesced.ini to a folder somewhere, then delete the original Coalesced.ini....

Download this program:

http://www.mediafire...8538f5672f1b9df

Uncompress the program into any folder.  This program allows us to compile a Coalesced.ini file.. (You can't just edit Coalesced.ini using notepad, it won't work).

Now that the program is uncompressed you'll see a folder called Configs, navigate to it.

* Edit bioengine.ini in the configs folder with notepad, then find and change these parameters to the following:

LensFlareMaxOcclusionIncrement=0.00
LensFlareOcclusionStepSize=0.00

Now run the program ME2CC.exe as Adminstrator.  (right click it, run as administrator).

Choose the option to compile a new Coalesced.ini ...

Now it has the new lensflare settings which FIXES the issue.

As much as I respect Bioware for leaving this backdoor open, they could ofjust gave us the info about the lens flare when the game was released. Instead of helping the Stereoscopic 3D community they chose to ignore
us.

Man. I hope ME3 has better support for 3D when it comes out, cause the invasion of earth will look MUCH better in 3D
